Andy Samberg is Zero for Two - Two Film Flops to His Name

Sorry, Andy Samberg, but you're zero for two.

You've got two film flops to your name. The first is Hot Rod, and the second is Space Chimps.

You guys really need to write your own movie from scratch rather than trying to save other peoples' movies with your humor. I mean, you inject great humor into your movies, but people want a story, and they aren't finding that in your films.

Your first movie was Hot Rod.

Gross Revenue: $13.9 million

More:
http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=hotrod.htm

Your second movie was Space Chimps.

Cost: $37 million

Gross Revenue: Currently $16 million. It might catch up to the cost, but it won't go much further than the cost of the film.

Made by: This is the third flop by Vanguard, the flopmaking animation studio (their first two flops were Valiant (which actually made a bit in Europe) and Happily Never After (which is actually quite enjoyable, just like Space Chimps).

More:
http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=spacechimps.htm

NEXT UP:

I Love You Man: Andy tries his hand at ensemble comedy, which is a great career move. Bill Hader's been cutting it up as a comedic bit player, and Andy probably needs to get some more of these roles. Andy will play off of Paul Rudd (40 Year Old Virgin), Jason Seagal (How I Met Your Mother, Knocked Up), and Jaime Pressly (My Name is Earl).

Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs: Another animated film. These come rarely to actors anyway, so it makes sense that he takes any of these that he gets. He's fortunate to get two of these. Andy's pal, Shia LaBeouf has only had one animated film (Surf's Up). Andy will play off of Anna Farris (Scary Movie 1-4, The House Bunny).

PimplyWimp's response to Andy Samberg's Natalie Portman Rap

Right, so here's a vulgar and super weird and hard to follow response to Andy Samberg's Natalie Portman Rap.

But it got 150K views on YouTube. =^)

From the Descript:

This is a response to SNL/The Lonely Island's Natalie Portman Rap. Ryan was quite saddened to learn she has a p*n*s. Lyrics:

We're sitting here today with idiot Ryan Reyes
Natalie (yes) what the hell's wrong?
Confess, was it PMS singing on that song (no)
Let's hang out! Give me a call!
You better not have an angry cyclops
between two balls
Now I feel like Eminem's Stan
Stressed and depressed, are you a man?
Is there a pistol in your holster?
Is that why they cut the full frontal from 'Closer'?
(Do you really want to know?) Yes!
(Do you really want to know?) I just said!
(Is that what you want?)
What's with this suck my d*ck gibberish?
V is for Vagina, lick my clitoris!
I know all there is to know
about the Crying Game
I've had my share of the Crying Game
'Cause my heart's Broke, what? Back Mountain
What? Damn!
Natalie I bet you woulda found Osama
Queen Amidala (Evie Hammond) Hot Momma!
Whatever it is they call ya, you're so cute!
Harvard, a vegan, and a good actor too!
I bet you can spontaneously combust on que
But real quick what's with bald chicks saying
(Suck my d*ck!)
Well, I guess it sells tickets and licorice
You put the P.H. in filth, lick my clitoris!
What a wicked thing to do
to make me dream of you
What a wicked game to play
to make me feel this way
Natalie, I'm not crazy, I'm not an obsessed fan
I just wanna walk hand in hand
with you in the sand
I'll gladly do your laundry, watch Dirty Dancing
Here's an idea, a doppleganger tag team!
(Ideas are bullet proof)
And this is the truth, unless I'm way off (chaos)
You want to quit this stardom sh*t &
take the day off (all the time)
So you can spend it with me
topless at the beach
Screaming suck my d*ck to paparazzi!
(Do you understand what I'm telling you?)
Yeah, Britney style bee-itches! F*ck you!
(Sorry about that little interuption there)
(Believe me Natalie, listen Natalie, this is)
(The fifth...)
(Living side by side in peace)
(...of November)
(Remember)

The mashup includes footage/music from V For Vendetta, The Crying Game, G.I. Jane, Closer, The Upside Of Anger, The Killers, John Lennon, Queen, Chris Isaak, Johnny Cash, Brokeback Mountain, George Bush, the war in Iraq, & Natalie Portman's Rap with original music by King Barf.

No one can believe their Sofa King low prices.

This video features Fred Armisen, Maya Rudolph, Andy Samberg, Bill Hader, and Shia LaBeouf (the guest; he was in Holes, Disturbia, as well as the upcoming Transformers and Indiana Jones 4).

Maya gets a laugh looking around the images that are over her face.

Children will go ape for 'Space Chimps'

What is it about family-friendly space adventure movies lately? They seem to be as vital to movie studios this summer as superheroes.

But unlike last week's box-office bomb, "Meet Dave" — where Eddie Murphy portrayed a spaceship — this week's animated "Space Chimps" is sure to be a crowd-pleaser, at least for the 10 and younger set.

While it's not as groundbreaking as Pixar's latest hit, "WALL-E," this chimpanzees-in-space movie delivers exactly what it promises: an amusing plot and solid voice performances from "SNL's" Andy Samberg, "Curb Your Enthusiasm's" Cheryl Hines and Broken Arrow native Kristin Chenoweth.

The premise is actually pretty clever, too.

The story begins at a circus show starring the chimpanzee Ham III (voice of Samberg). Although a relative nobody, he's the grandson of a famous chimpanzee space pioneer, named simply Ham. The kids will think this plot point is interesting, but the adults who remember Ham's real NASA space journey in 1961 will get a kick out of this accurate detail.

Although his grandfather was a hero, Ham III is content with being shot out of a cannon on a daily basis, unlike the chimps raised at the space headquarters. These are highly trained and skilled chimps — Luna (Hines), Titan (Patrick Warburton) and Comet (Carlos Alazraqui).

So when an ambitious senator asks them to go on a mission too dangerous for humans, they're more than ready. Though, when he recruits Ham III for his name recognition, nobody's happy.

Soon, the chimps find themselves strapped in and headed to a galaxy far away in search of life on another planet. And they find life, indeed, it's just nothing they had in mind.

Also released in Spanish:

This planet is cute, colorful and perky, kind of like Teletubbies-meets-Candyland. But paradise has been lost thanks to a native gone bad, the evil Zartog (Jeff Daniels). The chimps are initially there to gather information, but they wonder whether they should save the planet.

The kids will love these brightly colored aliens, particularly the teeny but powerful Kilowatt voiced by Chenoweth. She's a mini-alien with an enormous light bulb-like head that illuminates every time she's afraid, which is most of the time.

The animation in "Space Chimps," produced by Vanguard Animation ("Happily N'Ever After"), is more than adequate, but it's hard not to compare it to the brilliance of Pixar's "WALL-E." Instead of taking the audience into a new dimension, "Space Chimps" takes it on a pleasant journey.

But where "WALL-E's" more subtle and sophisticated message will be better understood by adults, "Space Chimps" makes no bones about it: This is a fun film intended to be enjoyed by the children. And who doesn't like cute animals in space?

Space Chimps Review: Astronaut chimps search for life on another planet in a kid-friendly comedy

Astronaut chimps search for life on another planet in a kid-friendly comedy

From:
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080718/ENT01/807180392/0/YAKstories

If you're old enough to read this review, you aren't the target audience for "Space Chimps," a movie about chimpanzees sent in search of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe.

"Chimps," from the animation studio that gave us "Valiant," is one of those cartoons that parents won't mind sitting through while little Miss or Mister 8-and-under gets his or her chuckles at the cute talking primates.

And chuckle they will. With adorable critters and icky monsters and oodles of potential toy accessories (to say nothing of a video game tie-in), this movie looks for that sweet spot in every 7-year-old's heart for chimpanzees and movies about them. The script also manages the occasional wisecrack or movie lover's inside joke to keep the adults awake.

Andy Samberg's Ham character:

A space agency probe has slipped through a wormhole and found evidence for life elsewhere in the universe. Let's send astronauts! Wait, through a wormhole? They might not survive. Let's try it on chimps first!

Thus, the remnants of the chimp training program are given the job. And to drum up publicity, the grandson of the original space chimp, Ham, is added to the crew. He's been living out his days in a circus act, getting fired out of a cannon.

Ham III (voiced by Andy Samberg) is hot for Luna (Cheryl Hines). He barely tolerates the buff, by-the-book Titan (Patrick Warburton). But he does what he's told.

Meanwhile, on the distant planet, the probe has fallen into the hand-like appendages of Zartog (voiced by Jeff Daniels), an outcast who then becomes a dictator. Will the chimps survive the trip and undo what evil the humans have done to these unsuspecting Teletubbies?

"Chimps" borrows from many a sci-fi film, from "Star Wars" and "2001" to "Red Planet" and, especially, "The Right Stuff." The script has these clever bits about surviving a trip through the Valley of Very Bad Things, like the Dark Cloud of Id. That's where you face fears of inadequacy that are all inside your head. The apes fire off insults about evolution and other famous chimps. ("Easy on the fur, Furious George!")

Almost every line out of Warburton's mouth is a pun -- "We'll just have to chimp-rovise!" "Let's chimp this ride!"

Kristin Chenoweth lends her chirpy Broadway belter's voice to a cuddly little alien who just begs to be added to your child's nightstand.

The animation is decent (save for the humans, plastic and stereotypical). And Blue Man Group bops up some of the music. Credit Vanguard Animation for lifting its game far above "Valiant" and "Happily N'Ever After." "Space Chimps" is more comically verbal than "WALL-E" and less violent than "Kung Fu Panda," even if these chimps still have light-years to go to reach the animation stratosphere of a Pixar or Dreamworks.

Overall I think this is the fairest review I've seen so far. It gives the true value to the film while still pointing out its weaknesses.

Space Chimp Review - Look and laughs lost in 'Space'

From:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/reviews/critics/chi-space-chimps-review-0718jul18,0,6964191.story

"Space Chimps" sucks a whole lot of talented people into a wormhole of lousy. The film either needed to be a lot wittier to make up for the way it looks, or a lot better-looking to compensate for the funny it isn't.

Vanguard Animation is responsible for the eerie inexpressiveness of the visual style, and along with production designer Bo Welch, the "H.R. Pufnstuf" color scheme of the planet upon which our three space chimps crash-land. They're on a rescue mission to recover a lost space probe. That's already more than you need to know plotwise.

The legit astro-simians, Titan and Luna, are voiced by Patrick Warburton and Cheryl Hines. The punk, victim of a political public relations scam, is a preening egotist with a secret self-loathing streak, grandson of the chimp we actually did put up in space. Andy Samberg does what he can with the role. But when Luna, the one Ham's macking on for 82 minutes, describes him as "kind of funny in an incredibly annoying way," she's a very easy grader indeed.

The planet they visit is ruled by Zartog ( Jeff Daniels, in ninny-hysteric mode), while the script is ruled by many, many permutations of the word "chimp"—"We'll just have to chimprovise," etc. Then the characters start making comments about how many chimp puns there are in "Space Chimps." Which is amusing in theory and deadly in practice.

What I find galling is the lazy preference for jokes that the adults will get, though not necessarily laugh at while they're getting it. "Airplane!" references? David Bowie? A banana-in-your-pocket gag, in a G-rated picture? Great animation from the golden age riffed on all sorts of pop culture flotsam and jetsam, but the pacing and the wit was tops, and the visual flair was remarkable. "Space Chimps" is merely likely to transform your impressionable pre-teen into a grating wiseacre, until this short but loooooong feature's effects wear off.

MPAA rating: G.

Running time: 1:21 Opening: July 18.

Starring the voices of: Andy Samberg (Ham III); Cheryl Hines (Luna); Kenan Thompson (Ringmaster); Stanley Tucci (Senator); Kristin Chenoweth (Kilowatt); Patrick Warburton (Titan); Jeff Daniels (Zartog).

Directed by: Kirk DeMicco; written by DeMicco and Rob Moreland; animation by Vanguard Animation; edited by Tom Finan; music by Chris Bacon and Blue Man Group; production designed by Bo Welch; produced by John H. Williams and Barry Sonnenfeld. A Twentieth Century Fox release.

Andy Samberg - His jogger skits are valuable to SNL because they're so short

Andy Samberg - His jogger skits are valuable to SNL because they're so short (kind of like his shorts)

Here's an older article about SNL that includes a few great tidbits about Andy. I bolded everything about Andy Samberg and what he goes through at SNL.

I was fortunate have the chance to report and write this week's this week's Village Voice cover story on Saturday Night Live as it enters its 32nd season in transition. It was a great assignment and I had pretty sweet access, including interviews with most of the cast members plus Lorne Michaels, attending two live shows, and wandering around at a rehearsal checking things out. Most of that is in the piece (plus this companion web-only piece which was basically an excuse to link to funny sketches) but, just as SNL must axe sketches on the road from dress to air, so too did some great little nuggets get left behind during the editing process. I bring you a few of those today, randomly assorted and with varying degrees of comedy wonkitude. Enjoy!

According to creator Michaels, an average of 40-50 sketches are read at the readthrough every Wednesday of show week, mostly written from scratch over the night (and morning) before by the cast and writing staff. Over the week, that number is whittled down to around 10 - 15 sketches by the time it gets to air.

Before every show, staff impressionists Bill Hader and Darrell Hammond have a little ritual: They go out and share a cigarette together. According to Hader, he gave up smoking but makes this one exception.

SNL players, especially those new to the show, are encouraged to use material they've already developed — Will Forte's Tim Calhoun, massively underqualified candidate for office, is a holdover from his Groundlings days; Andy Samberg's recent "Out Of Breath Jogger From 1982" was actually his audition piece, thrown in at the last second to fill a super-short timeslot (to go with his super-short shorts).

For Update inspiration Seth Meyers reads the general office fare (NYT, WaPo, NYPost, Newsday, plus presumably the Us Weekly I saw on the read-through table), plus Salon and Slate. Although he initially claimed to find the blog format unappealing, he then singled out Salon's "War Room" for special mention, saying he "loved" both the content and layout. I let him know that it was a blog. He then revised his position. Upshot: Seth Meyers loves blogs!

Fred Armisen used to be a punk-rock drummer, and compared the co-existence of SNL, The Daily Show, Colbert Report etc. to the peaceful coexistence of The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones and Elvis Costello when that scene was flowering. Do you know what rock and roll even is? It's not on your iPod.

Will Forte: "People compliment me on Goat Boy all the time."

The "borrowed camera" that the Lonely Island guys used to film "Lazy Sunday" belonged to Bill Hader's wife, filmmaker Maggie Carey.

Jason Sudeikis' uncle is George Wendt, aka "Norm!" from Cheers. Sudeikis, who originally went to college on a basketball scholarship, actually got into the comedy biz on his own, but submitted to SNL at the prompting of George's buddy Larry Campbell from "According To Jim."

Sudeikis also seems to be the warmup guy, or at least was both times I was there. Both times he also recounted an anecdote from when Snoop Dogg was on the show: Apparently (and this is paraphrased), Sudeikis and a writer (sorry, can't recall whom) wished Snoop luck on the show and then his friend said, "Hey, Snoop, maybe later after the party we can get a ho." "Why stop at one ho?" said Snoop. "Why not three or four? Dream big, you may never wake up."

Maya Rudolph says Donatella Versace may one day be back, but there are no plans right now (she last showed in May '05); "Time Traveling Scott Joplin" however, has been retired since it was written by Slovin & Allen, who are no longer with the show (Donatella was created by Rudolph BFF and writing partner Emily Spivey).

Bill Hader was 'discovered' by Megan Mullaly, who recommended him to Michaels. For his final audition, he and his LA-based sketch group, Animals From The Future, were flown to New York to perform a private show at the UCB for the SNL cast and crew. No pressure there.

At the Oct. 7th show, I observed Lorne Michaels walking around between sketches, talking to people. When I asked him about it, he said that he was keeping an eye on timing and pacing, and that usually there's a person in the cast who is "a metronome" and keeps things ticking; he said Dan Ackroyd, Phil Hartman and Chris Parnell had each fulfilled that role, instinctively adjusting the pace as needed, but that that person hadn't yet emerged in the current cast.

Samberg and Lonely Island cohorts Jorma Taccone and Akiva Shaffer shot a movie called Hot Rod this summer (Akiva directed) with Parnell, Ilsa Fisher, Ian McShane, Bill Hader, and Sissy Spacek; Hader and Kristen Wiig also shot Judd Apatow's Knocked Up. Rumor has it that Wiig is hilarious and steals her scenes. So perhaps she won't be Gawk Stalkless for long.

On the 17th floor where the show's offices are located, there's a bulletin board of "Really Important Things That SNL Staff, Cast & Writers Should Know" with the NBC harassment policy, petty cash reimbursement forms, and a staff birthday list. Aside from the photos of castmembers past and present, and the fact that people sometimes walk around in whale suits, it is a fairly normal office.

Darrell Hammond taught himself to master impressions while working the graveyard shift "pushing buttons" at an AM radio station in Vero Beach, Florida.

Berfore SNL, Michaels had a short-lived variety show on in Canada with lawyer-turned-humorist Hart Pomerantz called "The Hart & Lorne Terrific Hour" which included a recurring beaver joke. No, really, it was an actual beaver joke; did I mention it was in Canada? (Unfortunately the YouTube clip has been taken down.) Amy Poehler is one of the founding members of the Upright Citizens Brigade theater, and can regularly be found there on Sunday nights, leading all-star improv show "AsssCat" featuring top UCB players plus people from Conan, Best Week Ever, Comedy Central and, yes, SNL (lots of Jason Sudeikis and Seth Meyers plus former writer Liz Cackowski).

Maya Rudolph was overheard exclaiming, "Oohwee, Tiara, that sounds good!" from Kenan Thompson's "MTV Deep House Dish" sketch. No one was overheard singing The Penis Song (Kevin Nealon skit).

How is Space Chimps Going to Stack up Againts This Year's Animations?

Andy Samberg is starring in his first animation this year, Space Chimps (with his second animation, Cloudy with a Side of Meatballs coming next year).

So how will Space Chimps stack up to this year's animations?

First and foremost, the trailer looks pretty funny, so it seems to have a decent chance. However, this is not the best year to be releasing an animation like this. The competition is fierce. Not only do you have what is arguably the best Pixar film (Wall-E), but you also have a pair of heavy hitters from DreamWorks, a Star Wars animation, a valid attempt from Disney, and a secret weapon from Universal Studios.

1. Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who

Date: March 14, 2008
Studio: Fox/Blue Sky
Starring: Jim Carrey, Steve Carrell

Domestic Totals: $153,948,010
Worldwide Totals: $294,480,506

Notes: From the studio of Ice Age and Robots.

2. Kung Fu Panda

Date: June 6, 2008
Studio: Paramount/DreamWorks
Starring: Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Angelina Jolie, Lucy Liu

Current Domestic Totals: $184,023,000
Current Worldwide Totals: $285,781,156

Notes:
- Taking over Madagascar as the #2 DreamWorks franchise, behind Shrek. It made more than Shrek or Madagascar on its opening day (60 million versus 40-42 million).
- A sequel is planned, possibly for 2011.

3. Wall-E

Date: June 27, 2008
Studio: Disney/Pixar
Writer/Director: Andrew Stanton
Starring: Fred Willard

Current Domestic Totals: $86,311,330
Current Worldwide Totals: $89,470,409

Notes:
- Written by Pete Doctor (Monsters Inc.) and Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo) and directed by Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo).
- This is a roller coaster of emotions. Picture the emotions of Finding Nemo but add more to it and replace the silly humor with clever humor.
- I suspect that this is the Academy Award Winner for Best Animated Film of 2008, which would be Stanton's second Oscar (after Finding Nemo; this would also tie him with Brad Bird, who currently has two of these Oscars for Ratatouille and Incredibles).

4. Space Chimps

Date: July 18, 2008
Studio: Fox/Vanguard
Starring: Andy Samberg, Patrick Warburton, Jeff Daniels

Notes: Vanguard hasn't done well with their first two animated films (Valiant and Happily Never After).

5. Star Wars: Clone Wars

Date: August 15, 2008
Studio: Warner Bros./Lucasfilm Animation
Starring: Samuel L. Jackson, Christopher Lee

Notes: Surprisingly poor animation, facial animation, lighting, textures, and animated hair quality, especially since coming from the company that's behind all the CG amazingness in movies today (namely through ILM).

6. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

Date: November 7, 2008
Studio: Paramount/DreamWorks
Starring: Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Sacha Baron Cohen

Notes: Madagascar was originally a steal off Disney. Occasionally DreamWorks hears the press releases from Disney and then steals the idea and tries to get their version out first, to make it look like Disney is copying. They did it with Antz (before Bug's Life), Madagascar (off of The Wild), and Flushed Away (came in to beat out Ratatouille to the market). Some say that they were inspired to do Shrek when thinking of monsters, to try to beat Monster's Inc., but there's a good chance that's just a coincidence.

7. Bolt

Date: November 26, 2008
Studio: Disney
Starring: John Travolta, Miley Cyrus

Notes:
- First, I'd like to say that this trailer was a lot more interesting before they revealed that he was actually an dog acting like a cybernetic hero. Having the dog actually be the cybernetic hero (ala Incredibles) would have been a much better story (IMO).
- Second, the story for thi movie was written by Chris Sanders (writer and director of Lilo & Stitch). Sanders was directing this movie. However, when Lassetter took over Disney, he threw out most of Sanders' work, and Sanders walked out and joined DreamWorks (now working on Crood Awakening, a caveman animation that DreamWorks pulled from Aardman (due to their poor sales of Wallace & Grommit and Flushed Away) and gave it to Sanders to do in-house at DreamWorks). The Bolt project was then given to two writers and story artists on the project. Lassetter often has the writers and story artists direct the animations, since they often have the strongest vision of the project.

8. The Tale of Despereaux

Date: December 19, 2008
Studio: Universal Studios/Framestore
Starring: Matthew Broderick, Dustin Hoffman, Emma Watson, Sigourney Weaver, William H. Macy, Stanley Tucci, Kevin Kline, Christopher Lloyd, Tracey Ullman

Notes:
- A new animation studio was formed for this production.
- The director, Sam Fell, is fresh off of Flushed Away. What's interesting is that this is another Mouse movie (like Flushed Away and Ratatouille), from the director of Flushed Away, but the art style is nothing like Flushed Away at all. Flushed Away uses the Nick Park/Aardman style, while the style of Despereaux is clearly similar to Pixar's style for the humans, and similar to Pixar for the animals as well (but they clearly try to go one more step toward realistic animals). The result will be a beautiful movie that tells a beautiful story.
- The primary negative aspect is the name. They should have changed the name; it's too hard to remember IMO, and it doesn't describe the story.
- So this is Universal's secret weapon. Universal has been silent in the battle of 3D animation films (while Sony, WB, Paramount, DW, Weinstein, Fox, and Disney have all been active), except for distributing Veggie Tales 2 earlier this year (I didn't bother including it on this list). So I guess they were waiting for a big gun, and they finally found one.

Enjoy!

Andy Samberg - Made shorts with Rob Delaney at NYU

Andy Samberg made shorts with Rob Delaney at NYU

Check out this exerpt from an interview with Rob Delaney that was posted yesterday (7/4/08):

At NYU, Delaney made a few short films with classmates Andy Samberg, a "Saturday Night Live" cast member, and director Nate Pommer, with whom he recently made another film called "Nature of the Beast," which has been making the rounds at film festivals. But he didn't get serious about comedy until he got to LA and started studying at Improv Olympic.

Andy Samberg - Isn't going to win an Emmy in 2008!!!

Weird. Here's an article about what Andy Samberg didn't win...

No 'Saturday Night Live' stars on the Emmy list of Top 10 best supporting comedy actors

Looks like the joke is on the cast of "Saturday Night Live." This year Emmy rules permit them to scoot from the category for variety performers to comedy acting and, alas, none of the lads (Fred Armisen, Darrell Hammond, Seth Meyers, Andy Samberg, etc.) got the last laugh. They're still eligible in other categories. Last year Samberg shared an Emmy with Justin Timberlake and others for writing the music and lyrics to "D**k in a Box."

Instead, the runoff of Top 10 contenders for best comedy actor involves these chaps — below — who are largely the usual suspects except for that nice surprise Jack McBrayer.

TOP 10 SEMIFINALISTS: COMEDY SUPPORTING ACTOR
Jon Cryer, "Two and a Half Men" ("Meander to Your Dander")
Kevin Dillon, "Entourage" ("The Dream Team")
Justin Kirk, "Weeds" ("Bill Sussman")
Neil Patrick Harris, "How I Met Your Mother" ("The Goat")
John Krasinski, "The Office" ("Branch Wars")
Jack McBrayer, "30 Rock" ("Episode 210")
Tracy Morgan, "30 Rock" ("Secrets and Lies")
Jeremy Piven, "Entourage" ("The Day F***ers")
Fred Willard, "Back to You" ("Cradle to Grave")
Rainn Wilson, "The Office" ("Money")

Missing in Emmy action: Danny DeVito ("It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"), Chi McBride ("Pushing Daisies"), David Spade ("Rules of Engagement"), Michael Urie ("Ugly Betty") and Kevin Nealon ("Weeds").

Andy Samberg - Teaches about MySpace

Updated 7/2/08: We added the embedded Hulu video. Originally posted 12/21/06.

------------------------------

Here's an older skit from Andy's first season on Saturday Night Live. Andy Samberg plays the straight man well, allowing comedy to come up around him.

"This is a slightly older group than I was expecting."

"Your son is 45?"

"Mine is DJDanny1979."

"If you put 1991 in there, it might make people think you're 15."

Is this MySpace version (below) working?

Is it ironic that this video is on MySpace? Heck yeah!

"You should probably tell your daughter to stay off the internet."

Andy Samberg - Is Young Chuck Norris

Updated 7/1/08: Added the imbedded Hulu video. Originally posted on 8/4/06.

------------------------

This is a hilarious Saturday Night Live Music Video about Young Chuck Norris.

Andy Samberg has rocketed into fame, taking Chris Parnell along with him. Andy's been working for awhile at gaining this fame, as have the other two members of their Lonely Island Dudes.

Here is the Lonely Island website.

The sad thing is that Jorm seems to be the twisted brains of the bunch. He seems to take the most twisted roles in their videos, which implies that he is writing his roles. However, Andy did his time on the comedy club circuit, and so Andy gets to be a featured player while the other two are SNL staff writers. Mark my words, Jorma will become a featured player in a year or two, and then we will be laughing at the ugly guy instead of the pretty one. In the meantime, Jorm, Akiva, and Andy are going to make Andy look really good.

While their humor is hit and miss, the Lonely Island Dudes seem to have found their niche with Saturday Night Live. The SNL environment has helped them find the best humor that lurks inside them. And that brings me to their newest hit video for SNL, "The Young Churck Norris."

This was written by the Lonely Island Dudes. Most people will agree that this is not better than the Narnia Rap. However, some (including my friend Travis), like this one better. To fully appreciate it you have to have been a fan of Chuck Norris at one point in your life.

Otherwise, you'll still think it's funny:

"Kung-fu grip. Mustached lip."

Some people think Chuck Norris has a girlie punch:
