Here's the deal. I'm not sure if Andy was up to something else (preparing for an album, preparing for the Taylor Swift episode, or maybe just taking a break?)... but Andy had two full episodes in a row, and we know he's going to be a big hitter in the coming Taylor Swift episode. So we can understand if they wanted to devote this episode to showing off some hilariously manly skits... including:

- The Rock Obama (he's back)

- Ninjas and Warriors (the monologue)

- Beauty and the Beast

- 2 gay military guys

- 300 (I knew they'd do it)

- Daveheart


So kudos for them finally doing some hilariously manly skits (and squishing them all in one episode like that). I'm not sure how that happened, but maybe Gerard just pointed to all the manly action skits and said, "I like those." Maybe something like that.

Just as an example of how "manly" this episode was, Bobby Moynihan was in five sketches. In three of them, he was "a warrior." And in one he was Cogsworth. (Then he also did a voice.)

Unfortunately, although I found this funny, I feel like they have to resort to gimicks like this to make Fred Armisen's Obama sketches funny. Fred just isn't willing to make fun of Obama the way Jason does with Biden, Darryl Hammond did with Bill Clinton, Amy did with Hilary, Tina Fey did with Palin, Will Ferrell did with George W, and Dana Carvey did with George Sr.
