Joanna Newsom's Peach Plum Pear (set to the Single Ladies music video)

Merry Christmas everyone!

Hahahaha. So this is one of Joanna Newsom's more artistic, interpretive style songs, called Peach Plum Pear. It was set to Beyonce's Single Ladies music video.

Made even funnier with this description:

This is not a remix or mash-up. This is what SHOULD have happened. By Brittani and Emerson
=================

What does this have to do with Andy Samberg? Well, he's dating Joanna for one. I know Joanna doesn't intend this music as a joke, but I think it's very funny set to this music video, so I enjoyed her music. (And for those Joanna critics, Joanna can also sing in a more "normal" style of voice. This is an artistic style she chooses to use sometimes.)

Enjoy!

  1. any one who is a fan to the harp knows this girl makes a big joke out of it. She really is not that popular in this top of music except the fact she is a big joke. She is like the frigin heidi montag of her type of music.

  6. Anony1,

I agree with Anony3 and disagree with you. While I think you're certainly entitled to your opinion, Joanna has a lot of fans, she (and her fans) consider this music to be "artistic," and I've heard her sing (and play) music which sound much more "normal" and "mainstream" (and I really enjoyed it). So I think this style is performed by choice, and it's not the only style she uses. Personally, I can't help but laugh when hearing this song (and similar songs), and my wife (a hardcore music lover) also asked, "Is this a joke?" So I get where you're coming from, but I think it is artistic, I understand why her fans like songs like these (I still enjoy it as being a lot of fun), and I enjoy her other music in the more "normal" sense.

    Thanks for your comments everyone!

  9. I have to kind of agree with anony1. I went to a choir harp convention back in 2007 and she was there. It was in brooklyn and she did bring her fans but she was the the blast of the night. Her music is different but in a fan of the harp she is a 3 out of 10

  10. I meant she was NOT the blast of the night^

  11. The sad part is that Andy really does like her. I'm not here to criticize their relationship seeing as i don't know them personally, but it's just such a weird combination. His comedy and her music just don't match up, except through the laugh factor. I guess the heart wants what it wants, but this song especially proves just how weird she really is. I feel like she needs someone more "out-there" artistically, and he needs a girl who is less, i guess one could say nicely, eccentric? I'm not trying to offend anyone's taste in music(or people), this is just a personal opinion.

oh, and this video was really funny. even joanna might find it enjoyable.

  12. anony 1- She is not making a joke out of the harp. She is classically trained and has chosen to incorporate both a certain african tradition and folk tradition and chose to play three beats to four and sing. That's incredibly complicated to do and sing. I would suggest a bit of research on her before you slap and mock her and her abilities.

As for the "weirdness" of the lyrics, voice, and her eccentricities as so many of you have claimed. You are entitled to your opinions. Personally I love her music. This song is deeper than it may seem and it's a fun tag to the deep message. It's about running into familiar faces who've changed with society and put her down, make her feel bad for who she is without even knowing her. "I've read enough books to interpret your looks".... and " So, nanananana....". It's a confident and fun response to cynicism but not a funny subject. Sorry.

  13. to the last/most recent anonymous,
gently remove the tampon out of your vajay and get a fucking sense of humor. this video is funny. And viwers are going to find it hard to pay attention to the lyrics when beyonce is booty poppin' in the background. you're entitled to your opinions, but maybe posting them on this specific entry wasn't the most appropriate decision. preach to an "i love joanna newsom fan club", not a blog about an immature comic.
    So nanananananana...

  15. FunnyPeople, I agree that the vid is funny, but please don't attack other readers.

Anony, not sure if you're really asking, but Andy was a fan of her music, attended her concerts, and met her that way. He actually likes a variety of music, including experimental music like hers (before he met her, he said in an interview that he liked her music).

  16. Funny People: Learn how to read. I did not say the video was not funny, have an excellent sense of humor and find it funny. As for taking my comments somewhere more relevant- they were responding specifically to the commentators who brought up those issues in the first place. It sounds like you're the one with a problem, no sense of understanding or humor, finds issues with people having their own opinions- aka- you're the one with the problem/s. Aka- get a life and use your derogatory criticisms somewhere else.

  17. By the way- change your title to something more relevant like Lame A**, because you are anything but funny.

  19. Anony,

Hmm. So that we can direct the conversations about Joanna Newsom better? Hmm. People certainly like to talk about her and Andy. This is one of maybe five or so posts where we had a lot of comments about Joanna. I'll think about it. There are a few good ways to do that. Thanks!

  20. I can't get over how well this works! And i also don't understand how anyone decided to make the connection between beyonce and joanna! I'm glad they did because it's hilarious, but i'm just so perplexed beyond belief that it matches up so perfectly. Thanks for posting this TAE!

  22. Yea because he would be like omg finally someone notices my girlfriend, she is not an invisible freak anymore. I mean comon he says she dresses him and whenever there together his outfits are weird, like hers. he does better dressing himself!

  23. Aw man, I agree with Angela G.! I wish there was a way Andy could see this! He'd probably think it was so funny. I have a feeling Joanna would like it too, the video works perfectly!
