Jason Segel Joins The Adventurer’s Handbook (Akiva directs)

Talk about no surprise here. Frequent Jonah Hill collaborator Jason Segel has joined the cast of his upcoming film, The Adventurer’s Handbook. According to EW, Segel’s set to join Hill and Jason Schwartzman in the Akiva Schaffer directed comedy. The Adventurer’s Handbook stems from a screenplay that Hill and writing partner Max Winkler wrote and sold to Universal.

The story was inspired by the non-fiction book written by Mick Conefrey. The film is a comedy in which a quartet of pals go on a global adventure, inspired by the hardcore stories of explorers whose tales are chronicled in Conefrey’s book. Character descriptions haven’t been released, so we don’t know who will be playing who. But I think it’s safe to say the three main actors will probably be a part of the exploring quartet.

I love Jason Segel! Jonah Hill can have moments of annoyance, but Jason’s always good to watch. I’m sure whatever role he has he’ll deliver the goods. The Adventurer’s Handbook is still in the development stages, and we’re told that it hasn’t been greenlit as of yet. Hopefully production will start soon, because I’m really looking forward to this!

Thanks for the tip, Anony!

So we still don't know if Jorma or Andy will appear in this film. Basically, Akiva showed Jonah Hiill his mad skills when they filmed Andy's Dad, and Jonah is putting this flick together.

I hope they find a place for Andy in this film and Jorma's MacGruber film!

Are Andy Samberg and TLI the major contributors to the novelty rock movement?

The golden age of novelty rock continues

As record companies struggle to shift units and scenes splinter into ever more obscure sub-genres, there’s one area of music that has never been stronger. We are in the golden age of novelty rock.

The evidence is everywhere. Flight of the Conchords are arguably the hottest band on the planet. Tenacious D have the clout to headline huge rock festivals. Andy Samberg’s music group, the Lonely Island, have become the saving grace of Saturday Night Live. Even the godfathers of the genre, Spinal Tap, re-formed for the summer.

These artists’ success is founded on jokes built into great-sounding songs. That insistence on taking the music seriously is echoed throughout the new generation of novelty acts, the best of whom are musicians first, comedians second.

Natalie Portman - Did Andy Samberg get her hooked on nasty hip-hop?

Remember when Natalie Portman teamed up with Andy Samberg for her rap debut with their SNL short together? Well it seems the actress' love for rap music is no joke.

The stunning 28-year-old star of Brothers recently sat down with her co-star, Jake Gyllenhaal, for a piece in Interview magazine. In the September issue, Portman confesses her passion for "really, really obscene hip-hop."

As Portman explains it, "It makes me laugh and then it makes me want to dance. Those are like my two favorite things, so combined..."

So, what's her favorite song from the genre? "Wait (The Whisper Song)" by the Ying Yang Twins. Of the obscenities, Natalie says, "So I just listen to it like I'm a 5-year-old, like, 'Oh my God! I can't believe he just said that!'"

Now there's a woman after my own heart.

Caption Andy: What does Andy Samberg say naked?

First, let's hit it off by announcing our winner from last week. It's...

Anony! (remember to leave your name if you want credit) =^)

That one won just cuz it made us cringe to picture it. =^)

So we're curious what Andy Samberg would say naked. What do you think the caption should be for this image:

Leave a comment to tell us what you think. The winner gets credit (no prizes; just for fun).

By the way, this is from Andy's first season on SNL. They did a special for the Ambiguously Gay Duo, and Andy and Jason were in in betwen segments with the cartoon characters, obviously doing some really gay stuff. =^)

Sandy's answer: It's from an episode of SNL. It's a Ambiguously Gay Duo skit, you can find it on the Saturday TV Funhouse SNL DVD.

Thanks!

How many episodes of Weekend Update Thursday this year?

According to Zap2it, NBC has ordered six episodes of ‘Weekend Update Thursday’ this season, but so far, only three of them have been scheduled on Sept. 17 and 24, and Oct. 1.

And the only announcement so far has been that Amy Poehler will be there.

Excerpt from:
http://www.examiner.com/x-16851-SNL-Examiner~y2009m8d2-Amy-Poehler-returns-to-SNL-this-fall-for-Weekend-Update-Thursdays

So will we get 3 or 6 episodes? Last year the show was promoted with appearances from Tina Fey, Bill Murray, and Will Ferrell. This season we've only seen a promotion that Amy Poehler will be there. The first Weekend Update Thursday plays right before the premiere of her show, Parks and Recreation.

That said, last year was an election year. So perhaps they are being a little more conservative this year and waiting to see what the reaction is like.

Amy Poehler returns for Weekend Update Thursdays!

Former SNL-er will be back for at least 2 episodes

It's not like this show needs to exist, but then again, the Weekend Update segments have generally been the best if not the only good thing about SNL lately. Having said that, if it's going to be on, it might as well start off with a bang. Apparently, that's just what NBC is thinking too.

Amy Poehler, who starred on Saturday Night Live from 2001 to 2008 and was co-anchor of Weekend Update with Tina Fey and then later with Seth Meyers, will be reunited with Meyers for at least the first two episodes of 'Weekend Update Thursday' when it premiere on September 17th.

As of right now, it's unsure who, if anyone will sit shotgun with Meyers after Poehler's second scheduled appearance, which airs on September 24th. SNL Weekend Update Thursday will air at 7:30 p.m. CST. Poehler, who was recently nominated for an Emmy for her work on SNL, is currently starring in her own sit-com for NBC, Parks and Recreation. Parks and Rec, which will also start its second season also on the 17th, is scheduled to air that night at 8:30 p.m. CST.

Megan Fox takes a stab at viral video

So Megan Fox takes a stab at viral video, something TLI did to great results with the 2009 MTV Movie Awards and to not quite as great results with Hot Rod.

Check out her mock PSA to help advertise her upcoming flick, Jennifer's Body...

WARNING: Some language.

Was this successful? Yeah, a little. 300K isn't bad. It's not exactly 60 million like Ji** in My Pants (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pXfHLUlZf4) or 30 million like I'm On a Boat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7yfISlGLNU).

I'm not sure why it's not posted over all the Megan Fox sites out there and getting more views though.

Anyway, will Megan's experience with Jennifer's Body and viral vids like this one make her more ready for SNL and an Andy short? We'll see.

Taylor Swift with Andy Samberg

Andy's on at 0:55...

Taylor Swift: "Like all of my inside jokes with all of my friends, come from these people basically, so it's kind of awesome! I'm excited about it."

Andy Samberg: "Taylor!"

Then Taylor, Kristen, and Andy all gush. What's really cool about this is that Andy and Kristen are genuinely flattered, surprised, and embarassed by Taylor's comment. All three of them are very down to Earth.

So, why don't Andy and/or Kristen invite Taylor to come back to SNL and do another skit or a digital short with them? In this vid, it shows Taylor doing an American Idol skit. But they could do a lot of different skits or shorts together.

Portuguese subtitles...

Okay. So this Taylor Swift video uses the same song as the Andy vid in our previous post:

Confirmed - Megan Fox will do a Digital Short with Andy Samberg

As an anony already mentioned in a comment, Megan Fox has already been talking to Andy Samberg, and they've been working on a Digital Short for the first SNL of the season.

I think Andy's gig hosting the MTV Movie Awards really opened a lot of eyes and avenues of future actors and performers who would love to collab with Andy. Let's see what Megan and Andy do.

The bit about her talking to Andy about a Digital Short is bolded below. It says she's been "practicing with Andy." What does that mean? Do they hang out and actually prep for skits? Or is this just a reference for Andy calling her out at the MTV Movie Awards and her not even cracking a smile (that could hardly be considered comedy on her part). What do you think? Check it out bolded below...

Megan Fox to Host "SNL" Season Premiere

"SNL" just got a whole lot sexier.

Superstar Megan Fox will host the season premiere of "Saturday Night Live," Life & Style magazine reported Saturday.

Insiders told the magazine that Fox will start the 35th season off with a bang -- sources said Fox would bring "surprises" to the NBC stage as she hosted the show.

"Megan is psyched to have gotten this opportunity," the Fox insider said. "She has a lot of surprises in store for the audience."

Fox is using the hosting gig to promote her new flick, "Jennifer's Body," which will premiere Sept. 18.

The "Transformers" hottie has been practicing her comedy skills with Andy Samberg, who she's reportedly filming a digital short with, the source said.

Fox will host the show's premiere on Sept. 26 live from the NYC studio.

Megan Fox hosting the first episode of SNL this season

That is all. The title pretty much says it.

Man, it was hard to find a picture of her where she isn't half naked! =^)

Okay, so what could she do with Andy? Someone suggested that she plays a robot in Laser Cats 5. =^)

I'd love to see Shia make a guest appearance and for them to do a Transformers spoof with Shia and Megan (sort of how Andy did "Fast and Bicurious" with Seth Rogen).

Andy Samberg plays Brent in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. He is a bit of a bully who milks the fact that he was the sardine spokesperson as a baby:

Well, apparently his character turns a little and he becomes more of a goofball for comedic gags rather than the "bad guy" of the film.

Caption Andy: caption this image from ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs’

What would your caption be for this image from Andy Samberg's new movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs?

We're trying something new! We look at an Andy image or one from an upcoming Andy movie and you write snarky, witty, or otherwise entertaining captions for it. No prizes, it’s just for fun.

Next week we'll announce the winner and post the image with the winning caption (and the image will also include credit to the winner).

So add your caption ideas in the comments!

Question: Hey that Image isn't even of Andy's character! What gives?
Answer: They haven't posted any images of Andy's character (which is odd, cuz he's promoting it at least as much as Anna and Bill are). But it's an upcoming Andy movie, so we'll do it anyway!

Discussion: What movie should Andy Samberg be in next?

So we all think that Andy should go on and do more movies. But what kind of movie should he make?

Currently he's looking for roles and waiting around to see what he gets. Technically, even Hot Rod came about because the South Park lady and Will Ferrell were talking to Lorne Michaels about Andy, and Andy immediately asked if Akiva and Jorma could be involved. And it all fell in place.

But should TLI create their own movie? What would it be like?

Many successful SNL comedians have made their own movies. Whenever Eddie Murphy is in a dry spell, he busts out his own movie (he wrote Norbit with his brother). Mike Meyers also writes his own movies when he gets antsy (Wayne's World, Austin Powers, and The Love Guru). Will Ferrell helps keep his own career strong by teaming up with his director partner Adam McKay every couple of years (Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Landlord, Step Brothers, and soon The Other Guys). Adam Sandler is known for turning comedies into a business. He started out writing his own comedies with his partners, and now he produces them and puts together his own movies by picking scripts he finds (including remakes like Mr. Deeds and The Longest Yard). Plus he teams up with his friends to write fresh material sometimes (like Zohan). And he teams up with other actors to make interesting movies (like Anger Management with Jack Nocholson and Chuck & Larry with Kevin James).

Jorma got swept up with the McGruber movie from his interactions with Will Forte and John Solomon. Akiva got an offer to direct a Jonah Hill film. But TLI might not do their own movie together if they don't write it and pitch it themselves. And technically they've never made their own movei from the ground up.

Hot Rod didn't do so well, but...
1) They didn't put together that movie themselves. They just modified it to make it a mixture of their humor and that of the writer.
2) They've learned a lot since then.
3) They're much more popular now. They have more hit digital short songs out there, they've released a hot CD, and Andy has hosted the MTV Movie Awards (quite successfully, I might add; the producer wants them back).

So what should they do?

Do you have any thoughts? Your thoughts could be general or specific.

It could be a wacky adventure comedy like McGruber, Austin Powers, Zohan, or Love Guru. For example, they could do "Young Chuck Norris" or a parody of adventure films like Indiana Jones (Andy could be to Indiana Jones what Mike Meyers is to James Bond in Austin Powers).

Or it could be more of a traditional sports or relationship comedy like what Adam Sandler excells at (sports: Happy Gilmore, Waterboy, Longest Yard; relationships: Billy Madison, Wedding Singer, Big Daddy, Mr. Deeds, Chuck & Larry, etc.) or like Will Ferrell does (sports: Semi-Pro, Blades of Glory, Talladega Nights). For example, Andy could do a hockey or soccer movie or a love story in college where he has to lead the chess team to victory (bad example).

Or they could return to their roots and do a full Bu movie where they make fun of shows like 90210 and OC. Or even better, mix High School Musical into that. =^)

So... what kind of movie should TLI do together?

Thanks and Enjoy!

How Andy Samberg ended up dressing women (photo)

Every Thursday afternoon, I experience the same Groundhog Day conversation with the girls in my fashion department. They start to debate their weekend date wardrobes and, inevitably, this yammer yields a familiar dialogue:

Fashion Girl: OMG, I’m freaking out. I’ve got nothing to wear tomorrow, and it’s my first date with this guy.

JZ: What’s wrong with what you’re wearing?

FG: This??? I can’t wear Marni on a first date. It has to be something sexy…but chill…easy…but hot!

JZ: You work in fashion—you should look the part.

FG: I work in fashion. I don’t want him to think I’m obsessed with fashion.

JZ: What does that mean?

FG: He won’t understand that it’s all about my new draped devore velvet Balenciaga dress right now. He’ll only think I’m wearing curtains. No, I’ll just wear my little black dress again.

Then my aha moment: I have come to realize that all women basically have two wardrobes—one to wear for other women (and themselves!) and one to wear for men. What works at brunch with girlfriends might not yield you that second date. It’s a simple fact: He’s Just Not That Into Your Skirt.

To the women in my office, I am this wise old fashion sage, constantly offering advice on what to wear and how to wear it. But when it comes to knowing what a real guy wants, how should I know? Sure, I’m a guy, but—and this is their theory—I’m a Fashion Guy. I’m the guy who goes shopping with you, not the guy who thinks Proenza Schouler is a retirement plan. A male friend—okay, he’s a total dude—told me recently that men love contradiction. They want a woman in heels, but not high-maintenance; hot, but still presentable to Mom; able to swig a beer at a baseball game, but turning heads while doing it.

Okay, point taken. But does this really mean that my POV is insignificant when compared to that of the guy next door?

So I decided to solicit the help of a guy next door—actually, three blocks away at 30 Rock—Saturday Night Live’s Andy Samberg. Andy is the perfect foil for me: laid-back, effortlessly hip, a hit with the ladies, and knows exactly what he likes, style-wise (including telling his publicist many times that her shoes were “bitchin’ ”).

And it was on: the Fashion Guy vs. the Funny, Cool Guy. I know my Dolce. He’s got “D*** in a Box.” I speak Lanvin. He raps “Lazy Sunday.”

I invited Andy, who is one of the voices behind this month’s animated film Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, to spend the day with me, style-plotting his way through various looks. We dressed some of the ELLE editors for certain situations where a dude’s opinion matters to see how our styling contrasted. When I initially told the girls that we were both going to come up with looks that are chic and relevant to different dating scenarios, they chuckled (at me) and swooned (over him). But judge for yourself. Personally, I admit Andy did great. And I wasn’t so bad either.

Vote on Elle for Andy Samberg's fashions!

Style A to Zee: Date Looks
Creative Director Joe Zee goes head-to-head with Andy Samberg for the best knockout date-look ideas

I guess at Elle, a lot of model-looking women just work as editors and such. They're stepping in as the models here. I guess that makes sense...

Vote here for Andy Samberg's fashions:

http://www.elle.com/Fashion/Fashion-Spotlight/Style-A-to-Zee-Date-Looks/Joe-Zee-and-Andy-Samberg-Pick-Date-Looks-Vote-Who-s-are-Best-and-See-More-Style-Tips-on-ELLE.com

ROUND 1: EVENING OUT
Joe Zee vs. Andy Samberg
JOE WEIGHS IN: I love a lady to look like a lady. I love when not a hair is out of place…the perfect accessories…and oh, the dress—part ’80s, part Christmas tinsel—it’s pure chic sophistication. Shapeless never looked so good. (The secret is the belt.)
ANDY WEIGHS IN: This is the evening gown version of when the Predator monster becomes reflecty and invisible. Soooooo, not a plus? I don’t even know. I do like that movie.

Our take: Sorry Andy, Kate doesn't like looking like the predator! Hahahaha. Nice one Andy, but that will cost you. If we're letting the model decide then that's...

Joe - 1
Andy - 0

Current poll results: Joe (77%) Andy (23%)

ROUND 2: HITTING THE CLUBS
Joe Zee vs. Andy Samberg
JOE WEIGHS IN: If you’re going out, why not really go out? This is the perfect time to throw it all on—marabou bolero, crystal mini, glitter platform boots—because after three drinks, you’ll look fabulous to everyone. They just won’t remember in the morning.
ANDY WEIGHS IN: I like this well enough. Jeans and high heels are always enjoyable, right? I’m drawing on my vast knowledge of clubbing at clubs here. Me and my friends will just club it up all night. Clubbin’ around with our fellow clubbers!

Our take: Andy just goes by memory of what women like to wear (and look good in) at clubs. Great job, Andy! The model, Janna, liked it! It's much more feminine!

Joe - 1
Andy - 1

Current poll results: Joe (21%) Andy (79%)

ROUND 3: MEETING THE PARENTS
Joe Zee vs. Andy Samberg
JOE WEIGHS IN: Okay, you’re going to meet his parents, not interview for prison admission (well, maybe). Still, where in the guidebook does it say that in-laws prefer drab and puritanical over style? I love a chic dress, but if you must, put a mom cardigan over it to say, “Hey, I can be just like you!”
ANDY WEIGHS IN: Always err on the side of “nice” with the parents. I mean, you don’t want them to think you’re a dud, but no one ever came back from that experience like, “I shoulda went sluttier.” (Note: This does not apply for dudes. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that dads love a boyfriend in a midriff tee.)

Our take: Thanks for the advice Andy! We dudes will be sure to dress sluttier when we meet the lady's parents!!! =^)

Jade looks awfully uncomfortable in Joe's clothes, and she looks very happy and comfortable (and much cuter) in Andy's dress. I think Andy won this round.

Joe - 1
Andy - 2

Current poll results: Joe (30%) Andy (70%)

ROUND 4: DRESSING FOR SUCCESS
Joe Zee vs. Andy Samberg
JOE WEIGHS IN: Give me lady-boss any day of the week. Loving the authoritative, in-command look here with the strict tailoring and classic, hard-to-walk-in pencil skirt. The major shoulder pads don’t hurt either. So what if she looks like she’ll kick your ass? Chic!
ANDY WEIGHS IN: These are two great examples of office attire. On the one hand, there’s the stylish and sexy look. Curvy, but authoritative, with just enough skin showing to really pique our interest. And then there’s the outfit the girl’s wearing. Punch line!!!

Our take: Mariko's not showing much emotion, either way, but in Andy's clothes she does look a little more comfortable and far less like a line backer or martial arts soldier.

Joe - 1
Andy - 3

Current poll results: Joe (26%) Andy (74%)

ROUND 5: CHILLING ON THE WEEKEND
Joe Zee vs. Andy Samberg
JOE WEIGHS IN: I love a girl who doesn’t care, but really does; effort without trying. Witness the carefully placed details: the nonchalant scarf, the laceless two-toned Top-Sider, and that extra-large L.L. Bean tote—obviously carrying her Birkin bag. Clearly she just left from the office.
ANDY WEIGHS IN: I feel like most girls I know wear some form of this outfit. To me this look says, “Hey, I don’t suck ass,” which is an important place to start with people in general.

Our take: Hahahaha! Bonus points for Andy not putting pants on her, but it's obvious that it's making Alexa a little uncomfortable (at least she's a good sport and laughing about it). So this one goes to Joe.

Joe - 2
Andy - 3

Current poll results: Joe (60%) Andy (40%)

ROUND 6: HAVING A FIRST DATE
Joe Zee vs. Andy Samberg
JOE WEIGHS IN: Being sexy doesn’t mean showing it all off. I love this dress; covered up just enough and revealing just enough. You want to be ready to broker the deal—not show the deal is done!
ANDY WEIGHS IN: Growing up in the ’80s has left me basically helpless against this shade of pink. I also still like a leg warmer. But just one. Like an eye patch for your ankle.

Our take: Andy hits the 80s pink perfectly! As Shawna says in the pic, she's much more comfortable (and looks it) in Andy's dress. The skirt isn't quite as high, the top and arms aren't as tight, and it just plain old looks like she's a lot of fun. Big win for Andy.

Joe - 2
Andy - 4

Current poll results: Joe (66%) Andy (34%)
(I guess the women readers of Elle are more into sheek than 80s cute)

ROUND 7: SKIPPING TOWN TOGETHER
Joe Zee vs. Andy Samberg
JOE WEIGHS IN: Not working doesn’t mean you can’t work it. This is how you do it: Start with a swimsuit—what guy doesn’t love that?—and then layer ripped jeans, tops, jackets, and miniature dogs with it. Sunglasses optional.
ANDY WEIGHS IN: Have you ever met a girl in this outfit who was a dick? The second best thing the Ramones gave us was the street hustler look for ladies.

Our take: Although she's laughing in Joe's pic, I think it's a laugh like the girl laughing without pants. Doesn't seem comfortable, and she's not standing comfortably. Arianne looks more cool and comfortable in Andy's look. Plus Andy referred to the Ramones. Instant win!

Joe - 2
Andy - 5

Current poll results: Joe (31%) Andy (69%)

Andy won in our book (of going by the model's reactions) and in the voters' book (they gave round 6 to Joe, but that's still 4 for Andy and 3 for Joe). So Andy just outdid the Elle Creative Director in fashion!!!

Once again, this proves our earlier point... Andy Samberg needs to start his own line of clothing!!!

Enjoy!

SNL year - 1984-1985

Updated with some background info on the year.

TLIF (Ryan) named the year: 1984-1985

Can you name the cast members in this photo?

So Lorne Michaels' original players were leaving by 1978 (that's when Aykroyd and John Belushi left). Lorne then tried to fill in the gaps with the brothers and writers. There were some frustrations with the studio, and in 1980, Lorne left SNL and all his people went with him. The studio recast the whole thing, and they had a completely new list of players, including Eddie Murphy, Joe Piscopo, and Gilbert Gottfried.

Well, that was a bust, so they brought Lorne back for the 81-81 season, and Lorne hasn't left sense. The first thing Lorne did was that he let go almost all of the cast except for Piscopo and Eddie Murphy. Next, he started bringing back some of the players he was previously working on (namely his writing team and Brian Doyle-Murray), Finally, he continued hiring fresh faces (Julia Louis Dreyfus in 82, Jim Belushi in 83).

Despite all that, the show was still being carried by Eddie Murphy, who left in the 83-84 season (but it was supported well). And that was also Piscopo's last season. So Lorne tried to drum up some fresh comedians for the 84-85 season: Billy Crystal (who hosted before he joined; he was a famous comedian), Harry Shearer (Lorne used him back in 89), Martin Short (fresh off of SCTV), and Cristopher Guest. Plus Belushi and Louis-Dreyfus were still on and very talented.

After this year in the picture (84-85), Lorne was losing his top cast, and he had to revitalize the show. The show just wasn't as hot as it was with the original cast (specifically Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Jane Curtin, and Gilda Radner), and it wasn't as hot as it was with Eddie Murphy leading the cast. So the 85-86 season was a huge rehaul. Nobody who was in this picture made it to the next season (combination of people leaving and rehauling the show).

In the 1985-1986 season, Lorne used three strategies. First, he hired existing comedic actors who have been in movies (Robert Downey Jr., Anothony Michael Hall, Joan Cusack, and Randy Quaid). Second, he started to bring on fresh, new comedians (the ones who stuck from 1985 were Dennis Miller and Jon Lovitz). Third, he followed his previous strategy of featuring his writers again (including Al Franken, Don Novello, and Damon Wayans).

Then, the year after that (86-87), he pulled out his movie actors, scaled back the writers, and concentrating on filling in new comedians (adding Phil Hartman and Dana Carvey).

Then the rest is history. They continued to add fresh new comedians, to mixed results and mixed reviews. The highlights were Kevin Nealon in 87; Mike Meyers and Ben Stiller in 88; Chris Farley, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, and David Spade in 90; Michael McKean, Norm MacDonald, Jay Mohr, and Sarah Silverman in 93-94; Chris Elliott, Janeane Garofalo, Mark McKinney, and Molly Shannon in 94; Jim Breur, Will Ferrell, Darrell Hammond, David Koechner, Cheri Oteri, and Chris Kattan in 95; Ana Gasteyer in 96; Jimmy Fallon and Chris Parnell in 98; Tina Fey in 2000; Seth Meyers and Amy Poehler in 01; Fred Armisen and Will Forte in 02; Kenan Thompson in 03; Jason Sudeikis in 04; Andy Samberg, Bill Hader, and Kristen Wiig in 05.

So there you go... from Billy Crystal and Martin Short to Andy Samberg and Bill Hader! =^)

Andy Samberg Takes On “Elle” Fashion Challenge For “Date Looks”

Over at Elle, Creative Director and Fashionisto Joe Zee has had an epiphany. Complains a fashion editor to Zee, “He won’t understand that it’s all about my new draped devore velvet Balenciaga dress right now. He’ll only think I’m wearing curtains,” as she laments (oh boo hoo) her first-date outfit choices. And then it hits Zee: Women dress differently for guys than they do for girls. You don’t say? It may have taken Zee a while to figure this out but he gets it now, explaining, “It’s a simple fact: He’s Just Not That Into Your Skirt.”

And so Zee enlists hot man Andy Samberg to face-off in a fashion duel of “date looks” to see if Elle editors prefer Zee’s conceptual high-fashion stylings, or if they vote for Mr. D*** in a Box’s horndog looks. The results? Both hilarious and surprising!

In scenario #1, a “night out,” Zee dresses an Elle editor in a slightly ‘80s dress with power ankle booties and a chignon. Andy’s look goes for hair down (so obviously a guy move) and a sexy gold cocktail dress. She prefers Zee’s.

We’re surprised that Andy took the challenge so earnestly, as we were expecting him to come up with some horribly embarrassing and clich├ęd outfits. For “meeting the parents,” we definitely give him the winning point when Zee dresses another editor in an unflattering “Golden Girls”-chic dress, while Samberg goes for the simple girl-next-door peasant dress. Andy’s advice: “Always err on the side of ‘nice’ with the parents. I mean, you don’t want them to think you’re a dud, but no one ever came back from that experience like, ‘I shoulda went sluttier.’ (Note: This does not apply for dudes. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that dads love a boyfriend in a midriff tee.)”

The other scenarios include clubbing, dressing for success, chilling on the weekend, and having a first date. May we be so bold as to suggest that Andy Samberg start a fashion blog for women? He’s maybe missed his second calling!

===================================

I know Andy took this as a promo opportunity (like an interview for a mag), but he may have stumbled onto something here. He should start his own line of clothing. He could have hot men clothing and for women he could "clothes men want you to wear." Boom!

Enjoy!

Andy Samberg - Who has he been on SNL longer than?

So Andy Samberg has been on SNL for 4 seasons now. (One way to know is to check how many episodes of Laser Cats have been made.)

And Andy's starting his fifth season. (No announcements of cast cuts or retirements have come for this next year.)

So we were wondering, how does Andy stack up against the other greats? Who has Andy been on SNL longer than? (This is not the full list; it's just a list of people I find interesting.)

Andy Samberg - 73 episodes (05-09)

Has been on SNL longer than...

o Joe Piscopo - 72 episodes (80-84) - He was #2 when Murphy was on.

o Kristen Wiig - 69 episodes (05-09)

o Eddie Murphy - 69 episodes (80-84) - So popular that he hosted SNL while in the cast.

o Mark McKinney - 69 episodes (85-97) - He was in "Kids in the Hall" before this.

o Lorne Michaels - 66 episodes (75-09) - Creator; he always plays himself. He also offered the Beattles $3,000 to reunite on SNL.

o Chris Rock - 64 episodes (90-07) - Includes more recent appearances.

o Jim Breur - 60 episodes (95-98) - Goat Boy and the Joe Pesci Show

o Julia Louis-Dreyfus - 59 episodes (82-07) - On with Murphy. Later did "Seinfeld" and "New Adv of Old Christine."

o Jack Handey - 59 episodes (91-02) - Usually just narrating his "Deep Thoughts" segments.

o Paula Pell - 59 episodes (95-09) - A staff writer; she usually plays an audience member. She was the older co-worker in Andy's "Like a Boss."

o Brian Doyle-Murray - 52 episodes (78-82) - Bill's brother. He is best known as the Noah's Arcade owner in "Wayne's World" and Zac Efron's spirit guide in the recent "17 Again."

o Chevy Chase - 50 episodes (75-07) - Left after the first season. He started Weekend Update. On the show, he was best known for his random retorts, silliness, and prat falls (like falling down stairs). He went on to do "Fletch," "Caddy Shack," "Three Amigos," and the "Vacation" movies. He was the first SNL "superstar." Later followed by Eddie Murphy, Mike Meyers, Adam Sandler, and Will Ferrell.

o Paul Schaffer - 49 episodes (75-87) - Best known for going on and being the band leader for David Letterman. He was the SNL band leader, and when Lorne needed new talent to fill in gaps, he temorarily brought up his writers and band director to meet the need.

o Don Novello - 40 episodes (78-95) - Best known as the priest character. He was one of the writers who got pulled into the cast for a bit.

o Jay Mohr - 39 episodes (93-95) - He continued on successfully. He's best known for "Jerry Maguire," "Picture Perfect," "Go," "Are We There Yet?" "Ghost Whisperer," and headlining "Gary Unmarried." He also has continued his standup successfully and hosted "Last Comic Standing."

o Harry Shearer - 38 episodes (79-85) - Best known for "The Simpsons" (Skinner, Burns, Ned) and the great Christopher Guest films (This is Spinal Tap, etc.). He met Guest (and other collabers, McKean, Billy Crystal, etc.) at SNL. In 1953, he played a boy in an Abbott and Costello flick.

o James Belushi - 34 episodes (83-03) - Another cast member brother, his older brother is the late John Belushi (and original SNL member). He is best known for the K-9 films and the sitcom, "According to Jim." I also loved him in "Mr. Destiny," "Joe Somebody," and "Jingle All the Way." He does a lot of voices and supporting acting.

o Michael McKean - 28 episodes (84-95) - Also in a lot of Christopher Guest films.

o Billy Crystal - 22 episodes (76-85) - Only in the cast for one season, Billy is unique because he was a famous comedian who came on SNL to do guest bits. He liked it so much that he joined the cast for a season. He's the only cast member to join the cast after already being a famous stand-up comedian. He's known for "City Slickers," "Princess Bride," "Monsters, Inc." and other stuff. =^)

o Steve Martin - 22 episodes (76-09) - The person who has been on the show the most without ever being a cast member or regularly involved (mostly just hosting and guest appearances). He's currently known for "The Pink Panther," "Bring Down the House," "Father of the Bride," and "Cheaper by the Dozen." But my favorite works of his were "Three Amigos" (which he wrote), "The Jerk" (he also wrote), and "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels." There's also a hilarious suicide sequence in "The Lonely Guy." Also, check out his early SNL appearances from 76-80. You'll die laughing; he was so funny. He's not quite as funny now, but it's not as noticeable of a difference as it is with Chevy Chase, Martin Short, and others.

o Martin Short - 22 episodes (84-06) - He was actually in the sketch show "SCTV" before joining SNL (also in SCTV, were Eugene Levy, John Candy, Rick Moranis, and Dave Thomas). He went on to do "Three Amigos," "Ed Grimley Show" (I loved that cartoon; based on an SNL character), "Innerspace," "Father of the Bride," and "Primetime Glick." He also did a lot of voices.

o Chris Elliott - 20 episodes (94-95) - Father of current cast member, Abby Elliott. The only former cast member to have a child who also became a cast member on SNL. He's been doing a lot of support acting.

o David Koechner - 20 episodes (95-96) - I loved his gay Fagan character he did on SNL with Mark McKinney. He's been a strong supporting actor in "Talladega Nights," "Get Smart," and more.

o Conan O'Brien - 20 episodes (88-06) - He went on to host a TV show. =^)

o John Goodman - 20 episodes (89-01) - He hasn't hosted as much as Martin or Baldwin, but his guest appearances have added up (including 7 episodes as Linda Tripp)! Best known for "Roseanne," "Raising Arizona," "Arachniphobia," "King Ralph," live-action "Flinstones," "O Brother, Where Art Thou?," "Emperor's New Groove," "Monsters, Inc.," and "Speed Racer."

o Robert Downey Jr. - 19 episodes (85-96) - Lorne wanted to get some name talent while he tried to build up a team of fresh comedians that could rival his team from 1978-1980. So he brought in C-list comedy actors, including Robert Downy Jr., who was in "Weird Science" and a string of other films (Lorne also brought in Mark McKinney (from "Kids in the Hall"), Joan Cusack, Anthony Michael Hall ("Vacation," "Sixteen Candles," "Breakfast Club," and "Weird Science"), and Randy Quaid). Robert only lasted one season, and he went on to be awesome. He was in "Back to School," "Johnny Be Good," "Air America," "Chaplin," "Heart and Souls," "U.S. Marshals," "Ally McBeal," "The Shaggy Dog," "Tropic Thunder," and a few small series called "Iron Man" and "Sherlock Holmes." He's famous for his drug issues, but he is truly the comeback king.

o Christopher Guest - 19 episodes (84-85) - Best known for his mockumentaries like "This is Spinal Tap," "Dog Show," and "The Mighty Wind."

o Randy Quaid - 19 episodes (85-91) - Also brought on for one season to fill the gap (along with Downey Jr.), Randy's best work was "Christmas Vacation" and "Independence Day." His brother, Dennis, has become very famous (what with "G.I. Joe").

o Sarah Silverman - 19 episodes (93-94) - She wasn't quite as disgusting back then. =^)

o Joan Cusack - 18 episodes (85-86) - Also brought on as a young, established actress. She was on for one season. I loved her in "Gross Pointe Blank" and "School of Rock." Also in "Working Girl," "Toy Story 2," etc.

o Jorma Taccone - 17 episodes (05-09) - As a writer, Jorma has appeared a lot in skits and digital shorts. The biggest early role was in "Ariel and Efrim," and the most recent one was in "Like a Boss." His other large recent roles were in "J*** in My Pants" and "On a Boat." Look below to see who Jorma has been on SNL more than!

o Anthony Michael Hall - 16 episodes (85-86) - Also a name actor brought on for one year, Anthony did these films before Lorne brought him onto SNL: "Vacation," "Sixteen Candles," "The Breakfast Club," and "Weird Science." He went on to do "Johnny Be Good," "Edward Scissorhands," a lot of supporting roles to pay the rent, "Pirates of Silicon Valley" (he plays Bill Gates masterfully), "The Dead Zone," and "The Dark Knight." Do another John Hughes film! =^)

o Peter Aykroyd - 16 episodes (79-80) - The third brother to appear on SNL. The other two are Brian-Doyle Murray and Jim Belushi (Jim's the only one to become more famous than the older brother who helped get him on there).

o Andy Kaufman - 16 episodes (75-83) - Best known for Taxi and wrestling, Andy made 16 guest appearances on SNL before the viewers kicked him off (Lorne held a poll). People just hated him so much from his villanous wrestling character. Andy loved to be a villain.

o Abby Elliott - 15 episodes (08-09) - Her Angelina Jolie impression is smoking (especially the babies bit with Wiig's Madonna). She's the only 2nd generation SNL player, and she confirmed that she's coming back this next year. In 5 more episodes, she'll pass her father's legacy.

o Steve Carell - 15 episodes (96-08) - An honorary cast member, he plays Gary in the "The Ambiguously Gay Duo."

o Janeane Garofalo - 14 episodes (94-95) - Hilariously enough, Ben Stiller left SNL to eventually do his own sketch show, The Ben Stiller Show, of which Janeane was a cast member. Then the show got canceled and she later became a cast member on SNL. She has been in "The Larry Sanders Show," "Mystery Men," "Felicity," "West Wing," and "24."

o Jim Henson - 13 episodes (75-76) - That's right. Lorne experimented with muppets for a season.

o Gilbert Gottfried - 13 episodes (80-98) - Best known as Iago in "Aladdin," he was featured on SNL for a year.

o Damon Wayans - 13 episodes (85-95) - Also featured on SNL for a year. He left to eventually do "In Living Color," "The Last Boy Scout," "Bulletproof," and "My Wife and Kids." His career stalled before and after the latter TV show. Let's hope he can get things going (like his brother Marlon). Note that Chris Rock appeared on In Living Color (ILC) after doing SNL, and that Ellen Cleghorne left ILC to do SNL. The Wayans brothers all became famous, but the two who benefited the most from ILC were Jim Carrey and Jamie Foxx. Damon did his popular homeless and thief characters on SNL before he did them on ILC (check out the pic above where he's doing it with Anthony Michael Hall in the Jones Brothers commercial).

o Frank Oz - 12 episodes (75-76) - Where Henson is, Yoda follows. In the pic above, the one on the right looks like Alf. =^)

o Bob Odenkirk - 11 episodes (88-91) - Like Ben, he did the "Ben Stiller Show" after SNL, and he also went on to do the "Larry Sanders Show," "Mr. Show with Bob and David," etc.

o Adam McKay - 11 episodes (95-01) - Will Ferrell's partner, Adam was a writer and director on SNL. He also branded his own SNL digital shorts long before TLI did. He directed "Anchorman," "Talladega Nights," "The Landlord" (that Will Ferrel viral video with Adam's daughter playing the landlord), "Step Brothers," and soon "The Other Guys."

o Justin Timberlake - 8 episodes (02-09) - Keep him coming! He's hilarious on the show! Also, Lorne unofficially offered him a cast member position.

o Ben Stiller - 7 episodes (87-00) - Ben was featured for one season. He's known for "Happy Gilmore," "There's Something About Mary," "Meet the Parents," "Zoolander," "Dodgeball," "Madagascar," "Night at the Museum," "Tropic Thunder," and the coming flicks, "Oobermind," "Little Fockers," and "The Hardy Men." Can't wait!

That's about it. I mostly wanted to get the people who were actually involved in the production of the show, but who Andy has been on longer than. Maybe sometime we'll do the list of cast members who Andy has not been on longer than (but he still might be in the future).

Enjoy!
