Saturday Night Live - Weekend Update Thursdays

Check it out:

There's a new series coming out on October 9th called Weekend Update Thursdays (how can it be a weekend update on a Thursday?)!!!

It airs on NBC on Thursday nights.

I'm not entirely sure what their game plan is, what with Amy Poehler leaving half way through this season to pursue a sitcom. Will Amy do this Weekend Update show and the sitcom?

However, it is clear that the show is live (it says, "Live SNL Specials") and that it will feature current and former SNL players, who will give their commentaries. Obviously, it will have more current SNL players than former SNL players doing these commentaries.

For example...

On October 9th, Fred Armisen will be doing a commentary.

On October 16th, it will be Amy Poehler. (Isn't she a co-host anyway?)

On October 23rd, Darrell Hammond will be there to do his Bill Clinton.

And on November 3rd (they skipped a week?), Will Ferell will be back to do his George W. Bush (he is stil the king of the George W. Bush impression).

More on this as it develops...

So, hopefully this will open up anothr opportunity for us to see Andy Samberg and Bobby Moynihan. We'll have to wait and see.

Andy has done commentaries on Weekend Update before, but they're usually quite silly (like Shaggy Hair Spokesman or Impression Off), and more often he just does impressions of people in news stories (like the naked guy on a cell phone, the pregnant man, Cathy, or Sanjaya).

So we're saying there's a chance!!!

However, as Anony points out below, this might only be half a season long and only be around during the presidential race. Who knows, though. If it's popular, maybe they'll keep it going. Afterall, politics aren't going to stop. =^)

  1. Unfortunately, this is only temporary for the election. It's on their season press release. It would be great if it was longterm...*sigh*
