Andy Samberg - Amy Poehler called him Adam Sandwich

This was when Andy Samberg hosted the MTV Movie Awards in 2009. Amy Poehler won the best WTF Moment for urinating in the sink in Baby Momma. Her acceptance speech (and a shot of Jim Carrey):

Bleeped potty mouth; Andy got a nice call out from Amy Poehler!

And their relationship has progressed a bit from there. This season, Amy and crew has tried to get more guest appearances in Parks and Recreation. The guests have included Fred Armisen, Will Arnett, and the one and only Andy Samberg!!!

Enjoy!

Remember when Andy Samberg hosted the MTV Movie Awards?

Well, that "Starf Leet" bit was from Fatal Farms. They don't say if FF wrote the bits with TLI, but probably not.

Anyway, they ended up preparing several bits for the awards show, and MTV/TLI only aired the Star Trek bit and the skit that Fatal Farms made with TLI (the Genesis game).

I like the Batman one. These are pretty much just weird.

Kevin Smith gives advice to Andy Samberg (Kevin's a fan of Andy)

So most of this advice is for the MTV Movie Awards (sorry it took us so long to find this), but he also gives advice to Andy Samberg to stay on SNL for 15 years. It's cool to know that he's a fan of Andy Samberg

Kevin Smith Advises Host Andy Samberg Before The MTV Movie Awards: Flash A Nipple! Marry Justin Timberlake!

When Kevin Smith stopped by the MTV News offices recently and we asked if he had any advice for upcoming Movie Awards host Andy Samberg, I was thinking Smith would say something along the lines of, “Dude, remember to brush your teeth!”

See, back in 1999 Smith and buddy Ben Affleck took to the Movie Awards stage to present the Golden Popcorn statue for Best New Filmmaker to “Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels” director Guy Ritchie. And, well, one thing led to another, and suddenly Smith and Affleck were making out on stage until Affleck broke the embrace and announced that Smith needed to work on his oral hygiene.

A decade later, Kevin has only fond memories of his time playing kissy face with Ben on national TV. Check out the video below to see the real advice the director has for Samberg before the Movie Awards show (this Sunday, May 31 at 9 p.m. ET), including the possibility of the “SNL” funnyman flashing a nipple and marrying “Motherlover” digital short co-star Justin Timberlake.

This is a classic! This is what they should have done with Will Ferrell on SNL. I think the dudes approached Will with digital short ideas (they mentioned in an interview that they were going to), and they agreed to save one for the MTV Movie Awards instead.

Andy Samberg - Holds the popcorn (photo)

Here's an interview and a nice photo of Andy...

Andy Samberg hopes for another viral hit with MTV Movie Awards

Most soon-to-be award show hosts prepare for the big event by rehearsing their comedy bits or getting a crash course on attendees and presenters. Not Andy Samberg.

As he gears up to host the 2009 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, Samberg's approach is like a trained boxer -- well, a fictional trained boxer.

"I've done lots of spiritual training," teased the 30-year-old viral video superstar. "Lots of meditation. I've been doing a lot of acupuncture. You know, I'm trying to keep my head clear. I've mainly been in a meat locker . . . pounding away on meat. Getting in shape. I went to Russia, hung around a farm. Mainly just training there. . . . This might be the themes from the 'Rocky' films."

But if Samberg doesn't seem nervous, it's only because he's returning to familiar territory. Before he joined the "Saturday Night Live" cast, before penning such facetious digital shorts as an Emmy Award-winning holiday song about a unique present in a box (which he wrote and performed in with Justin Timberlake), Samberg was a writer for the MTV Movie Awards in 2005, the year "SNL" alum Jimmy Fallon hosted.

"It's cool to be back," Samberg said. "There's been a lot of pretty amazing people that have hosted the show: Sarah Silverman, Jimmy Fallon, Ben Stiller. . . . And now me!"

His primary goal, Samberg says, is to make everyone laugh. If experience is any indication, he won't have too much trouble. His amusing digital shorts for "SNL" -- from "The Chronicles of Narnia"-referencing, Red Vines-promoting "Lazy Sunday" to the recent "Mother Lover" -- have received millions of hits.

He's fully aware that when it comes time to write his obituary, he'll probably be most remembered for those.

"I think some play off '. . . in a Box' will make for the headline," Samberg said. "If I could be remembered for only one short, I hope it would be 'Iran So Far.' It's one that I am most proud of because we actually achieved a statement in a way that didn't feel obnoxious to me. It felt like it had a little bit of intelligence to it. . . . And I think I kicked some pretty smooth rhymes on that one. But people love '. . . in a Box.' "

And though Samberg initially had no intention of writing a sequel to that wildly successful viral hit, he is happy with the success of "Mother Lover," this month's Mother's Day tribute about loving your best friend's mom, which again featured him and Timberlake, with Susan Sarandon and Patricia Clarkson as the mothers.

Perhaps a digital trilogy?

"I wouldn't rule it out," Samberg said, hinting that he would reunite with Timberlake on Sunday. With a bevy of stars at their disposal, another viral hit might be looming.

Do a third Timberlake video! Honestly, just get your own TLI show and feature Timberlake on there every month or so. You'll make millions.

Andy Samberg takes the spotlight (Akiva and Jorma ignored?)

Samberg Triumphs, Taccone and Schaffer Stay Quiet at MTV Movie Awards

Written by Liz Shannon Miller

According to MTV, what “everyone’s talking about” with regards to last night’s MTV Movie Awards is Eminem’s close encounter with the scrotum of Sasha Baron Cohen (appearing in character as gay Austrian talk show host Bruno). But to be fair, host Andy Samberg set some face-on-tuckus precedent earlier in the evening during his opening number. In fact, Samberg set the tone for the entire night, giving arguably the best hosting performance in MTV Movie Awards history (a dubious honor, perhaps, but there you have it).

Even despite the fact that Samberg’s collaborators, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer, were visible in the audience and clearly behind both the awards ceremony’s promotion and production, it was Samberg’s show. At least according to MTV it was, which went so far as to arrange a delicious melody of Digital Short classics, performed by Leann Rimes, Chris Isaak and Forest Whitaker (he’s a classically trained opera singer, you know). Its title? The Samberg Melody. If The Lonely Island, the comedy collective that Samberg, Taccone, and Schaffer founded together, splinters apart in a blaze of hurt feelings, I suspect that this night of entertainment will feature heavily in the E! True Internet Hollywood Story episode.

After all, the creative success of last night’s show was due entirely to the collective Lonely Island’s askew spin on pop culture, from imagining the Meryl Streep drama Doubt as a video game to recasting Twilight with Dracula and Teen Wolf. In short, given the fact that Samberg was stuck stringing together a series of promos for lame summer movies and the next Twilight, he and his boys managed to put their personal stamp on the evening in a profound and hilarious way. And Samberg only had to get naked once to do so.

The real triumph of the night was the musical interlude with Will Ferrell and (hey, don’t ask me) J.J. Abrams on keyboards. Cool Guys Walk Away From Explosions represents exactly why the MTV Movie Awards are worth keeping around — incredible access to stars, but an irreverent attitude that allows for the poking of fun at Hollywood’s most beloved cliches.

Watching all these clips, the question becomes: “Does exploiting the talents of a groundbreaking comedy troupe to revitalize an awards show work?” And the is yes well, sort of. Not because the humor stylings of the Lonely Island are particularly well-tailored to the awards show format, but because MTV really gave them free reign to go (in some cases literally) balls-out, which MTV itself admits on the hosting page for the Digital Short Explosions: “We didn’t bring Andy Samberg all the way to L.A., just so he could stand around and introduce celebs. We did it to get in his digital shorts!” Well, MTV, you got what you wanted. Just remember, though — Schaffer and Taccone wear pants, too.

===================================================

Liz has a good point. I didn't notice it because Akiva was in the Doubt skit and Akiva and Jorma were shown after the medley, but MTV didn't give Akiva and Jorma as much credit as they deserve. Of course, SNL doesn't do that either. This is an actor's world, and right now Andy is playing the actor and acting as the face of TLI.

Andy Samberg talks about Hosting the MTV Movie Awards

Andy Samberg On Hosting MTV Movie Awards: 'I Think It Went Well!'

Comedian talks about 'Twilight,' Forest Whitaker's singing, party plans.

Now that Andy Samberg has killed it as this year's host of the MTV Movie Awards, he's officially part of the MTV family. And although there are many perks that come along with that prestigious honor, he is looking forward to one in particular.

"This means I get invited to all the MTV parties now," he said just moments after the show ended, adding that his nerves really kicked into high gear as the big event started. "I think it went well."

The one aspect of the show that did take Samberg by surprise was the amount of Golden Popcorn statues that "Twilight" won. "A lot of 'Twilight' fans," he said. "I don't know where that came from. No one expected that."

Samberg — who was really happy with the Lonely Island medley starring LeAnn Rimes, Chris Isaak and Forest Whitaker — said he had no doubt that the "Last King of Scotland" actor could belt out "Di-- in a Box." "Forest Whitaker is a great dude," he said of the actor, who performed a singing-waiter skit when he hosted "Saturday Night Live." "He can blow it out. I know that. I was like, 'Oh my God! He's gonna come out and kill it.' "

The awards show was filled with celebrities, but it was business as usual for Samberg, who deals with stars week after week. " 'SNL' makes you a little bit relaxed," he said. "But it's still exciting."

With the show over, Samberg revealed that he had two options for celebrating a successful run as host: either "lay low," or "I might set the L.A. night on fire."

Andy Samberg ‘the comedian for the digital age’

Andy quotes in bold below...

Samberg ‘the comedian for the digital age’

A few years ago Andy Samberg gave up his unemployment checks to take a job writing a few gags for a television special, the 2005 MTV Movie Awards. He took a pay cut.

Still, it turned out to be a good career move. The assignment led to an audition at Saturday Night Live, a job on that show and growing fame for a series of short digital comedy films, some of which have been downloaded tens of millions of times. And now, in a scene right out of one of the popcorn movies that the awards celebrate, Samberg was back as the host of the ceremony. “It’s the American dream,” said reality-television maestro Mark Burnett, who produced the awards show for MTV. “Junior writer becomes host of the show he used to write for.”

Beyond the usual monologue, Samberg seasoned his host duties with new short films. “I’m a pretape Charlie,” he said. He recruited a mix of talent to accompany him in the films, from Will Ferrell to singer Taylor Swift to J.J. Abrams, who usually works on the other side of filmmaking (as a creator of ABC’s Lost and director of the new Star Trek movie.)

Samberg, who is 30, has something that MTV is most interested in: a sizable following among young viewers of much smaller screens, namely TV sets and computer monitors.

“I guess I reached some point where I got on the radar,” he said. “My name seems to come up on things on the Internet.”

It comes up with some frequency. Several of Samberg’s more than 60 digital shorts for SNL, produced with his writing partners, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer (the three form the comedy group the Lonely Island, which earlier this year released its first album, Incredibad), have become phenomena online. One, “I’m on a Boat,” featuring Samberg and rap artist T-Pain, has been viewed more than 25 million times on YouTube — and that isn’t even Samberg’s biggest hit.

Two of his other short films, with titles that can’t be printed here with impunity, one about trouser accidents (with Molly Sims), the other about unusual gift ideas (with Justin Timberlake), have racked up more than 48 million and 35 million views, respectively.

All of this made Samberg a desirable choice for an awards show intended to find new categories for nominations in movies that people actually wanted to see — rather than the ones usually honored for more ethereal qualities. The winners, based on fan votes online, come in some rather contrived-sounding categories, such as best fight, best kiss and best moment of cognitive dissonance. (That one also has a different formal title.)

That award I still don’t totally understand,” Samberg said. Van Toffler, the president of MTV, said Samberg had gotten the nod as host because he is “the comedian for the digital age.”

Even with all his Internet exposure, Samberg said he recognized that this assignment was a significant career opportunity. “Certainly after doing this, it will introduce me to a lot more people that didn’t otherwise know me — or maybe thought my name was Adam and not Andy,” Samberg said.

Andy Samberg's writer says the Bruno/Eminem stunt was totally rehearsed

Andy Samberg's writer: Bruno, Eminem stunt was totally rehearsed

Andy Samberg’s head writer on the MTV Movie Awards, Scott Aukerman, now admits that the controversial Bruno/Eminem stunt was completely staged and rehearsed.

Which means that Slim Shady -- who appeared to be utterly horrified at the sight of Bruno's privates and later stormed out of the Universal Amphitheatre in anger -- is a much better actor than he proved in "Eight Mile."

Why, he's poised to be the new Sean Penn!

According to the Pop and Hiss blog, after a day of silence from Slim Shady and MTV, Aukerman wrote on his Tumbler: "Yes, the Eminem-Bruno incident was staged. They rehearsed it at dress [rehearsal] and yes, it went as far as it did on the live show."

What about the angry look Eminem gave Cohen’s buttocks? Just acting.

And that serious storm-out? According to TV Guide, "Most of the big celebs came, did their thing and left."

Missed the show and the video of the stunt? Watch it again here:

Do you buy this explanation? Or are they saying this to help Eminem save face?

The final word on Eminem/Bruno: It was staged, writes head writer

Reader comments are still pouring in regarding Sacha Baron Cohen's in-your-face crash-landing on Eminem at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night, with a debate still raging as to whether or not Eminem was in on the joke. "Mr. Show With Bob and David" writing vet Scott Aukerman has thankfully cleared up the issue -- and stole a bit of thunder from MTV in the process.

He writes on his Tumblr:

Yes, the Bruno/Eminem incident was staged. That’s all anyone wants to talk about, so let’s get it out of the way. They rehearsed it at dress and yes, it went as far as it did on the live show then. Okay, you can stop reading this blog now!

Andy Samberg - Interview for MTV Movie Awards

Yet another interview Andy did for the MTV Movie Awards.

Andy Samberg Prepares For 'Volatile' And 'Sexy' Movie Awards

With the MTV Movie Awards only hours away (at 9 p.m. ET, to be exact), host Andy Samberg is preparing the only way he knows how: by getting massaged by an older gentleman.

"I feel really relaxed," he told MTV News. "I got my game face on, my Rocky face. ... [I have] an older dude massaging me, but that's pretty standard."

Samberg may not want to get too relaxed, given how he's described his show opener. "It's volatile," he said. "It's gonna excite people. It's sexy. It's gonna titillate. It's disgusting, and plenty of celebrities are in it. I'm in it also."

He jokingly added that despite all the craziness expected to happen during the show and behind the scenes, "I'm not into excitable things. I just like to relax."

Of the slew of celebrities expected to appear at the show, Samberg does have an idea of some people he'd really like to meet, including Jim Carrey, who he says is one of his heroes. He's also hoping to talk to one of the night's big musical performers. "Eminem for sure," he said. "I've been down with his stuff for a long time."

Samberg won't be the only comedian in the room with the likes of Danny McBride, Will Ferrell and Carrey expected to show up, but the "SNL" star is confident he'll kick their butts in the funny department, at least for one night.

"I'm gunna smash them," he said. "Tonight's my night. You get out of my way, other nice, funny guys.' "

Andy does it right...

2009 MTV Movie Awards: The Opener!

Leaping between scenes from Best Movie nominees 'Slumdog Millionaire,' 'Twilight,' 'The Reader' and 'Star Trek,' 2009 MTV Movie Awards host Andy Samberg lands naked in Justin Timberlake's limo before opening the show.

Reminds me of the DVD digital short that Andy Samberg did with Bill Hader (In Granpa's Movies) but with more nudity and more Justin Timberlake. I knew they'd make good use of their friendship somehow!

Throw Your Hands In The Air! Andy Samberg Came To Party!

Welcome our host, who came to Hollywood prepared to throw down, hip-hop style, and let the insults fly into the celeb-packed audience, ultimately sending 'Saturday Night Live' comic Fred Armisen to rehab.

The Megan Fox bit was hilarious! I wonder if she cracked a smile later. This ended very randomly. Funny stuff.

Andy Samberg Medley

LeAnn Rimes, Chris Isaak & Forest Whitaker perform a medley of Andy's hits live at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards

Nice shot of Andy, Akiva, and Jorma at the end. Will Ferrell doesn't seem to smile at anything. Not sure why they keep showing him.

'Twilight' Spoof

Dracula punches out Teen Wolf and slam dunks in his face. That's just the beginning of Andy Samberg's take on the 'Twilight' trailer.

This is funny and just plain silly. Andy makes a great host!
