Andy Samberg as Mark Zuckerberg in the Jesse Eisenberg SNL monologue

The man who played Mark Zuckerberg in 'The Social Network' is confronted by the man who plays Mark Zuckerberg on SNL...and Mark Zuckerberg.

I don't know if Jesse had met Mark yet, but that's what's cool about SNL.

What did you think of this skit?

Enjoy!

Could Benicio Del Toro star in Three Stooges with Andy Samberg?

It was recently reported that Sean Penn, Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro may get replaced by Johnny Knoxville ("Jackass"), Andy Samberg ("SNL") and Shane Jacobson in "The Three Stooges" movie.

Director Peter Farrelly now revealed that Del Toro may still be cast in the film. "Benicio [Del Toro] is the front runner for Moe, but we've not made a deal with him yet," he explained.

Farrelly added that the goal is to find actors who look and act like the characters. "Our feeling is that it just can't be your take on Moe," he said. "It's gotta be Moe. Someone could nail Curly's mannerisms, but if you're 130 pounds it probably wouldn't work."

The plan is to divide the PG-rated film into three, 27-minute segments driven by physical comedy.

SNL Promo: Jesse Eisenberg, Kenan Thompson, and Nicki Minaj

There's just one basic Facebook joke here from Kenan:

Are you excited about this week's episode?

Enjoy!

Q&A: Why isn't Nasim Pedrad a regular cast member yet?

It's pretty rare when a cast member becomes regular after only one season. Abby and Bobby took two seasons, and Nasim is about in their caliber. The last ones to get bumped up after only one season were Andy, Kristen, and Bill Hader. You can probably see why. Bill was all over the place, Kristen rocked the impressions and characters, and Andy's digital shorts put YouTube and NBC videos on the map.

In other words, Nasim will likely be promoted next season. She definitely deserves it.

Enjoy!

Will Jesse Eisenberg be funny this week? (SNL promo vid)

Check out Jesse Eisenberg and Bill Hader doing a promo here:

Uh oh.

Either Jesse is a genius, doing a Michael Cera "awkward is funny" routine, or he might be very unfunny and too dry for SNL this week.

What do you think?

Enjoy!

Andy Samberg with Rahm Emanual in Chicago on Friday (vid)

Update: Thanks to Freya for the scoop. Originally posted this morning.

Here's Andy introducing / roasting Rahm Emanual:

============================================

It hardly seems like Rahm Emanuel needs any more celebrity help in the Chicago mayor's race. Bill Clinton was in town earlier this week endorsing him, and we just found out that he's getting millions of dollars in campaign contributions from the likes of Steve Jobs and Steven Spielberg. Plus, he's winning in the polls by a ridiculous margin.

But wait, there's more! Before the speech, Andy hangs with Rahm at the subway and meets Chicago-ians:

"Saturday Night Live" star and internet phenom Andy Samberg, who has done some hilarious impersonations of Rahm on the show, joined the candidate in shaking hands with CTA riders Friday night.

It's by turns amazing and painful to watch, as reporters keep trying to crack jokes with the world-famous comedian. But Samberg always plays it off: when one reporter asks if Rahm sent him a dead fish to get him to campaign with him, Andy comes back with, "I did wake up with a horse's head this morning. But that's not because of Rahm. I'm just into some weird stuff."

From:

===========================

Thanks to Anony for the scoop!

Sure, Rahm doesn't need the extra publicity to win the race. But I think he's trying to do more than win. I think he's trying to be the legendary mayor of Chicago, and it all starts here.

So it's cool for Andy to participate in that. Plus that speech that Andy gave (the top video) was fantastic! Andy had some great jokes there. I think he was fizzling out at the end with the Mayor McCheese stuff, but still very funny nonetheless.

However, regarding that one girl in the subway that used Andy's line on him ("Say hi to your mother for me")... I recommend people don't use his lines on him if you meet him. Just say nice things and then bring up a topic he's interested in. Using his own lines on him has got to be so annoying. Unless your purpose is to annoy him. =^)

Enjoy!

SNL Review - 1/15/10 (Gwenyth Paltrow & Cee Lo Green)

Overall, this was a decent episode for Andy fans. Andy was in four skits. You got to see Andy naked and with Pee-Wee Herman. =^)

Unfortunately, Andy was also in one of the worst skits of the night, Record Meeting.

The links below will take you to the individual video clips.

Cold Opening - Fox News: Greta Van Susteren, "Embracing Civility"
Greta Van Susteren hosts a roundtable that truly embodies a balanced political views.

FOX NEWS COLD OPEN

Kristen Wiig - Greta
Bobby Moynihan
Nasim Pedrad
Jason Sudeikis - Glen Beck
Bill Hader - James Carville
Abby Elliott - Rachel Maddow

REVIEW: Kind of amusing. Kristen does a great job with Greta. I didn't feel like this one attacked Republicans as hard as past versions. It seemed to attack both sides a bit more equally (which is what they claim to do, but it doesn't often work out that way). This is Kristen's third appearance as Greta. Bill Hader's James Carville is always hilarious (along with Jason's Glen Beck).
Score: 3/5 - Amusing, but I guess I don't care too much about these political media wars.
Top players:
(1) Kristen Wiig
(2) Bill Hader
(3) Jason Sudeikis
(4) Bobby Moynihan

Monologue - Gweneth Paltrow
Time: It starts at 6:25 in the video above.

Gweneth plugs Country Song and her performance at the Country Music Awards. She seems to think she knows her country music. Which leads to a duet with...
Jason Sudeikis - Kenny Rogers
And of course she doesn't know the words.
Kristen Wiig - Dolly Parton
C Lo Green - Plays himself

REVIEW: Amusing. This will make you smile. Jason knocks his Kenny Rogers out of the park. This is Jason's first Kenny Rogers. This is Kristen's first time doing Dolly Parton. There aren't any huge laughs here, but it's fun and sweet. Could be much worse.
Score: 4/5 - No big laughs, but they keep it moving and enjoyable throughout.
Top players:
1. Gweneth Paltrow
2. Jason Sudeikis

Commercial - The Cape Spinoffs
If you like super heroes who get their powers from pieces of clothing, then you'll love these new NBC shows!

REVIEW: Kristen gets a laugh with the fist shot of her swinging her bolo tie. The gun shots from her tie fail to get a laugh. That's the problem with a taped piece like this... you can't cut jokes from the live show. You're sort of stuck with what you got when parts aren't funny.
It was funny at the beginning with the Scarf (Nasim Pedrad), Andy Samberg made it funny being naked with the Leg Warmer, and Jason Sudeikis was pretty funny as the Scrunchie. Other than that, the joke was getting old fast. Bobby bookends this piece as the Spanks hero. He doesn't really get a laugh. The joke had already stopped being funny.
This was genius on NBC's part, because making fun of their own show is a great way to advertise it and make it live potentially longer than the show itself. =^)
Score: 3/5 - Some hilarious bits, but there were even more dud bits here that helped push the score down.
Top players:
1. Andy Samberg
2. Nasim Pedrad
3. Jason Sudeikis

Game Show - Secret Word
Back to the game show where the contestants try to guess a word but the gusts never let them.

Gwyneth Paltrow ... Titsie Bismarck Tumlinson
Bill Hader ... Lyle Round
Steve Higgins ... announcer (voice)
Taran Killam ... contestant
Kenan Thompson ... contestant
Kristen Wiig ... Mindy Gracin

REVIEW: This is the sketch's fourth appearance (two this season and two last season)...
11.21.2009
03.13.2010
10.09.2010
I have to say that this one was the funniest (the last two appearances seemed more annoying than funny). Kristen's character made me laugh a few times in this version (I think she's getting better at crossing her Mindy Gracin character over from annoying to funny). Gwyneth and Kenan were funny together, but her phrases were a little annoying. Kenan's still the best straight man on the show, but I also loved Taran Killam's facial expressions in this skit. Bill was mostly annoying as the game show host here.
Score: 4/5 - Despite the shudders, Kristen and crew had some big laughs.
Top players:
1. Kristen Wiig
2. Kenan Thompson
3. Gweneth Paltrow

Digital Short - Shots!
An innocent shot kicks off a wild night for Andy and his friend, Pee-Wee Herman.

Featuring Andy Samberg, Pee Wee Herman, Anderson Cooper, Fred Armisen, Kristen Wiig, and Kenan Thompson.

REVIEW: Think of all the poor kids hearing Pee-Wee and his chair curse like that. =^)
Well, I laughed out loud at least once, and I'm a huge Pee-Wee fan. Pretty good for a non-musical digital short.
Little known fact... Pee-Wee started out at the Groundlings, in the same class as Phil Hartman and others in the mid 80s. In fact, Phil helped Andy get his show going and starred on Pee-Wee's Playhouse as the Fisherman friend. So that's Paul Reuben's connection to SNL.
What we have here is an enjoyable romp with several Pee Wee references. No appearance from Gweneth, but that's okay.
Score: 4/5 - Really good, but it's hard for a non-musical digital short to be perfect. Even this one could have mostly been done live.
Top players:
1. Andy Samberg
2. Pee-Wee Herman (Paul Reubens)

Skit - Jacob's Bar Mitzvah
TIME: 21:35 (there is no clip of this one; you'll need to find it in the full episode above)

Taylor Swift and many other greats play at Jacob's rocking bar mitzvah.

Fred Armisen - Jacob's dad
Vanessa Bayer - Jacob
Gweneth Paltrow - Taylor Swift
Jay Pharoah - Jay-Z
Nasim Pedrad - Alicia Keys
Abby Elliott - Katie Perry
C. Lo Green - himself

REVIEW: A Jewish Taylor Swift song. Hilarious! Best skit of the night. C. Lo Green comes out to play himself (that's three skits C. Lo was in). This was another excuse to parade impressions, but it really works sometimes! Although Abby Elliott looks great as Katie Perry, the voice wasn't perfect and it wasn't overly funny. Still enjoyable to watch though. Despite the one blip and Fred thinking he's being funny (but isn't), so much amazingness happened here (especially with Gwyneth and Jay), so this one deserves...
Score: 5/5 - Gweneth's Taylor Swift was spot on and hilarious, and Jay Pharoah gives a mean Jay-Z (supported well by Nasim's Alicia Keys).
Top players:
1. Gweneth Paltrow
2. Jay Pharoah
3. Nasim Pedrad
4. C. Lo Green

Skit - Record Meeting
Cee Lo Green's hit song has some controversial lyrics that his record execs want to clear for television.

Gwyneth Paltrow ... Karen Antonelli
Cee Lo Green
Paul Brittain ... Rodney
Andy Samberg ... Larry
Jason Sudeikis ... Keith

REVIEW: Worse skit of the night. This gag of using non-cuss words just isn't funny to me. I thought this was a waste of the talent in the skit. I also thought Gweneth was overacting too much. Plus it didn't even end with a joke.
Score: 1/5 - This one came dangerously close to a score of zero. I'm not sure how they let this one get on (unless they had nothing else). Taran needs to propose some skits. It shouldn't be too hard to lead a skit if stuff like this is getting on.
Top players: No one could save this skit.

Musical Performance "Forget You"
Cee Lo Green

Weekend Update
Garth and Kat return, and Vanessa Bayer interviews Christina Aguilera and Cher. And Former New York gubernatorial candidate Jimmy McMillan (Kenan) talks about his run for president.

Seth Meyers
Bill Hader ... announcer (voice)
Kenan Thompson ... Jimmy McMillan
Vanessa Bayer
Nasim Pedrad ... Christina Aguilera
Bill Hader ... Cher
Bobby Moynihan ... Chaz Bono
Fred Armisen ... Garth
Kristen Wiig ... Kat
Gwyneth Paltrow ... Kim Castle

REVIEW: Fred and Kristen keep Garth and Kat fresh by mixing in Gwyneth Paltrow as their similar friend, Kim Castle. Vanessa Bayer amazingly writes herself into a straight-person role to interview Nasim's amazing Christina Aguilera. Bobby follows up with some funny transgender jokes. Bill's humorous as Cher, but not amazing by any means. Kenan's being himself again. Seth also does fairly well this week. Overall, the real winner was Nasim's impression of Christina Aguilera, which makes me want to see it more.
Overall Score: 3/5
Jimmy McMillan (Kenan): 2/5 (almost amusing)
Garth and Kat: 3/5 (good but mostly already done)
Vanessa's Interview: 4/5 (Vanessa is a bit wooden)
Top Players:
1. Nasim Pedrad
2. Bobby Moynihan
3. Seth Meyers

Skit - Globe Theatre
This skit is not available online and is not in the online full video. That probably means it had some music without permissions.

Gwyneth Paltrow ... actress
Fred Armisen ... actor
Vanessa Bayer ... audience member
Bill Hader ... actor
Steve Higgins ... announcer (voice)
Taran Killam ... actor
Bobby Moynihan ... actor
Jay Pharoah ... audience member
Andy Samberg ... audience member
Jason Sudeikis ... audience member
Kenan Thompson ... audience member
Kristen Wiig ... audience member

Commercial - The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air 20th Anniversary Collection
There were a few cut scene from Fresh Prince that were cut for good reasons.

Gwyneth Paltrow ... police officer
Paul Brittain ... announcer (voice)
Jay Pharoah ... Will Smith
Kenan Thompson ... Alfonso Ribeiro

REVIEW: Once again Jay breaks out his Will Smith impression. This time, instead of showing it off on Weekend Update (with current Will), he brings us to the old Fresh Prince Will. And he nails it, as usual. Jay Pharoah is definitely sticking around SNL and going places. Kenan supports well, but his obvious body-type difference distracts you from seeing him as anyone but Kenan.
Score: 5/5 (this is perfect, the best skit of the night)
Top Player:
1. Jay Pharoah

Show - ESPN Deportes
Even in Spanish, the ESPN sportscaster phrases are the same.

Gwyneth Paltrow ... Sofia Cortez
Fred Armisen ... Esteban
Paul Brittain ... Ramon Zaragoza
Steve Higgins ... announcer (voice)
Taran Killam ... Paco
Bobby Moynihan ... clown
Nasim Pedrad ... girl
Jay Pharoah ... Kevin Garnett

REVIEW: My guess is Paul wrote this or came up with the idea. Otherwise, I'd imagine that Fred would be up there with Gwyneth (if it came from another writer). Regardless, Paul pulls out his second hilarious character in what will probably be a recurring sketch. Way to go, Paul! However, it's much more the concept that makes this skit funny than any one actor. Bobby is hilarious as the clown that comes in, and even Taran delivers an awesome look. Also, Jay plays a great straight man with his Kevin Garnett impression (I love how they put Jay up on a higher platform than Fred to create a bigger height difference).
Score: 4/5 (some slow parts, but it comes through)
Top Players:
1. Paul Brittain
2. Gwenyth Paltrow
3. Bobby Moynihan
4. Jay Pharoah
5. Taran Killam
6. Fred Armisen

Musical Performance "Bright Lights Bigger City"
Cee Lo Green

Sketch - Spitzer Auditions
Eliot Spitzer is having trouble finding a co-host.

Gwyneth Paltrow ... Heidi Klum
Fred Armisen ... David Paterson
Bill Hader ... Eliot Spitzer
Taran Killam ... Skip
Nasim Pedrad ... Christiane Amanpour

REVIEW: This is amusing but not overly funny. Fred's brief appearance as David Paterson makes you want to see him instead of this. That said, Bill is fun to watch as Spitzer.
Score: 3/5
Top Players:
1. Bill Hader
2. Fred Armisen

OVERALL NIGHT:

Score: 3/5

Top Players:
1. Gweneth Paltrow - 17 pts (Monologue, Secret Word, Jacob's Bar Mitzvah, ESPN Deportes )
2. Nasim Pedrad - 12 pts (Weekend Update, Jacob's Bar Mitzvah, The Cape Spinoffs)
3. Jay Pharoah - 11 pts (Fresh Prince, Jacob's Bar Mitzvah)
4. Andy Samberg - 10 pts (Digital Short, The Cape Spinoffs)
4. Kristen Wiig - 10 pts (Cold Open, Secret Word)
4. Jason Sudeikis - 10 pts (Cold Open, Monologue, Cape Spinoffs)
5. Bobby Moynihan - 9 pts (Weekend Update, ESPN Deportes)
5. Bill Hader - 9 pts (Cold Open, Spitzer Auditions)
6. Paul Brittain - 5 pts (ESPN Deportes)
7. Fred Armisen - 4 pts
7. Pee-Wee Herman - 4 pts
7. Kenan Thompson - 4 pts
8. Seth Meyers - 3 pts
9. C. Lo Green - 2 pts
10. Taran Killam - 1 pt
11. Abby Elliott - 0 pts
11. Vanessa Bayer - 0 pts

So Andy came in fourth place this week behind Gweneth, Nasim, and Jay. Go featured players go!

Enjoy!

Andy Samberg and Adam Sandler - new film

Here's our second post on the new Samberg and Sandler film. It's still not official yet...

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg are in talks with Columbia Pictures to star in "I Hate You Dad," a comedy that Sandler's Happy Madison banner is producing.

The story centers on a father who moves in on the eve of his son's wedding and promptly begins feuding with the bride-to-be.

Sandler would play the dad, with Samberg as the son, even though less than 12 years separate the two in real life.

"Dad" is still in the development stages, and no director is on board, but the two actors are attached. The project is one of several in development at Happy Madison as possible starring vehicles for Sandler. Columbia initially picked up the project in August 2008.

Sandler is a "Saturday Night Live," alum while Samberg is among the current cast's stars. He has made ventures into film, starring in 2007's "Hot Rod" and playing supporting characters in such comedies as "I Love You, Man." Co-toplining a Sandler pic would give Samberg his biggest movie break yet.

Sandler, one of Hollywood's few reliable hitmakers, will next be seen in "Just Go With It," which opens February 11. Samberg will next be seen in "Friends With Benefits," Screen Gems' take on the sex-with-buddies genre that stars Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis.

Adam has interviewed Andy before for Interview magazine. I think they are compared because their names are similar (Andy has been called Adam a lot) and because they're both Jewish comedians from SNL (and their tastes in humor aren't that far off, even if they go about it differently).

Thanks to Anony for finding this one.

Andy Samberg to Campaign for Rahm Emanuel In Chicago

Andy Samberg Campaigning For Rahm Emanuel In Chicago

Andy Samberg of "Saturday Night Live" will be in Chicago Friday--headlining a fundraiser for the man he impersonates quite well.

Politics Daily reports that Samberg will headline a $50-per-person fundraiser for Emanuel Friday. The event will be held at the Paris Club in River North.

Samberg's endorsement comes as former President Bill Clinton headlines a $5,000-per-ticket fundraiser for Emanuel at the Chicago Cultural Center Tuesday, and just one week after Grammy-winning singer and actress Jennifer Hudson performed at a House of Blues fundraiser for the candidate.

Emanuel is already considered the front-runner in the Feb. 22 mayoral primary, as several polls have shown him with a considerable lead. He must receive at least 50 percent of the vote to win outright, or a runoff will be held in April.

WATCH a particularly hilarious Rahm impersonation by Samberg here:

Thanks to Anony for the scoop!

This is great of Andy! Reportedly, Andy was invited to the White House to meet Rahm. Actually, Andy did an interview before that where he wondered if he'd get invited (knowing that past SNL cast members have been invited when doing impersonations). And then he got invited after that (maybe the interview gave Rahm the idea).

Regardless, they're obviously friends now, and this is a great opportunity for Andy to support Rahm and to get his name out there more.

Andy Samberg is NAKED (except for a leg warmer) - SNL The Cape parody

If you like super heroes who get their powers from pieces of clothing, then you'll love these new NBC shows!

"It's a dude!" =^)

So Andy is pretty funny as the naked guy with a leg warmer, kicking his way to justice. Naked is always funny. =^)

It was funny at the beginning with the Scarf (Nasim Pedrad), Andy Samberg made it funny being naked with the Leg Warmer, and Jason Sudeikis was pretty funny as the Scrunchie (It's a dude!). Other than that, the joke was getting old fast.

Andy Samberg Does Shots with Pee-Wee Herman (SNL Digital Short)

An innocent shot kicks off a wild night for Andy and his friend, Pee-Wee Herman.

Featuring Andy Samberg, Pee Wee Herman, Anderson Cooper, Fred Armisen, Kristen Wiig, and Kenan Thompson.

Poor kids hearing Pee-Wee and his chair curse like that.

Plus Pee-Wee hosted SNL on 11.23.1985 (and Phil Hartman appeared in that episode, a year before he joined the cast). So that's Paul Reuben's connections to SNL (thanks to Anony for reminding us that Pee-Wee hosted).

Andy Samberg to star in Adam Sandler movie, "I Hate You Dad"

Well, it was inevitable. Andy is Jewish and young looking. Adam Sandler was born in 1966, and Andy Samberg was born in 1978. So Andy isn't young enough to be Adam's son (unless Adam had a kid at age 12), but makeup, hair, and clothes could make Adam look older and Andy look younger and so they look like there's a good 20 years between them.

This is great! Andy kept his career alive with his digital shorts (and CD and hosting MTV Movie Awards), and it looks like it caught up with him with a few movie deals, including a huge potential one like this. Congrats Andy!

Hilarity shall ensue!

Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg are currently in talks to star in Columbia Pictures/Happy Madison's upcoming comedy I Love You, Man I Hate You Dad.

The story is about "a father who moves in on the eve of his son's wedding and promptly begins feuding with the bride-to-be." Sandler would play the dad, and Samberg would star as his son.

Wow. We can't believe that Billy Madison has gotten to a point where he's playing "the dad" in a movie. What happened to the angry kid swinging golf balls in Happy Gilmore???

Meanwhile, in 2011 Adam has Just Go With It next month (he gets Jennifer Aniston to lie for him), Zookeeper coming (a Kevin James followup to Paul Blart) and Jack and Jill (where Adam plays both roles) with Katie Holmes and Al Pacino.

In 2011, Andy has supporting roles in What's Your Number (Anna Faris & Chris Evans) and Friends with Benefits. (Justin Timerlake and Mila Kunis). So a prominent role in "I Hate You Dad" is exactly what Andy needs for his career. Let's see if it happens!

Andy Samberg in A Taste of New York (SNL skit)

Sketch - A Taste of New York

Jim Carrey ... musician
Fred Armisen ... musician
Vanessa Bayer ... audience member
Paul Brittain ... audience member
Abby Elliott ... audience member
Bill Hader ... emcee
Andy Samberg ... audience member
Kristen Wiig ... musician

A crowd of out-of-towners doesn't quite enjoy their hotel's musical entertainment, "A Taste of New York."

I don't know. I didn't get into this one. Fred and Kristen almost take turns doing these nightshow characters with weird music (my favorite was Kristen Wiig with Jon Hamm), and this one is merely amusing. Jim, Fred, and Kristen (no names for these characters?) come out and sing authentic New York songs that aren't very exciting (and seem to be from the perspective of the homeless or drug-addicted). Amusing, and the audience sells it well with facial expressions. But I would have preferred ending with the Amusement Park sketch.

Andy plays one of the visitors who doesn't get the music he was hoping for. I think Andy plays a great frustrated straight man here!

What do you think?

Andy Samberg & Fred Armisen SNL promo

Gwyneth Paltrow hosts an all-new SNL 1/15 with musical guest Cee Lo Green.

Andy explains in the first gag that Gweneth is in London, and her flight got delayed. That means she'll have more work to do when she gets there! Especially because the host is usually an integral part of picking the skits. She could have done that remotely, but it's not the same.

I love the gags here, especially the button gag at the end!

And here's Gweneth's promo (after she arrived) with Jason Sudeikis and Cee Lo:

Enjoy~!

Featured Player Update - Taran Killam shows skills, but is it enough?

Taran Killam swept up on 1/8/11, showing he's got some skills...

Robot skills (he outstages Jim Carrey at physical comedy, which is quite impressive):

He played an interesting fish character opposite Andy Samberg (kudos to Andy for helping push a featured player):

He and Paul play Bro-Botix in the "Worst of Soul Train" skit. What's really interesting is if you watch this, you'll see that Taran out performs Paul here. There's a good chance that if the writers see what Taran is capable of, they might make good use of him. Check it out:

And even in Black Swan, you can see him cause a good laugh by feeding Jim Carrey some bread crumbs:

==========

Nasim Pedrad did her fair share on 1/8/10. She was featured in the Black Swan sketch (mostly playing it straight and showing her genuine dance skills), and she played Ricky, having an amusing line in the Worst of Soul Train skit.

Jay Pharoah only had one role as Shooting Starr in the Soul Train skit. The writers really aren't using Jay well. He's mostly pitching himself every two weeks or so. That's what's keeping him busy.

January 8, 2011 (Jim Carrey)
1. Taran Killam plays Brad Pitt on Weekend Update. I think the audience mostly gave courtesy laughs here. Taran also supports in two small roles, totaling 4 skits.
2. Nasim Pedrad was featured in the Black Swan sketch (mostly playing it straight and showing her genuine dance skills), and she played Ricky, having an amusing line in the Worst of Soul Train skit. She played supporting roles in two other skits, totaling 4 skits.
3. Vanessa Bayer played straight roles in three skits.
4. Jay Pharoah does only Shooting Starr on Soul Train.
5. Paul Brittain does two supporting roles.

Taran takes the prize for best performance from a featured player this week. Hopefully this will help the writers see how valuable he could be to the show. Plus Taran really needs to go out there and turn in his own skits and materials (and sell writers on his stuff).

Enjoy!~

Andy Samberg is Gary St. Marvelous (Worst of Soul Train)

This is a pseudo sequel of the Back to the Future DVD commercial. But instead of celebrity impressions, they are going after 70s music with original-ish characters. Of course this also smacks of the old Deep House Dish skits they retired (although Kenan and Andy are still on, so they just got bored of those skits now that they do Kenan's What's Up with That instead).

Commercial - The Worst of Soul Train

Jim Carrey ... D'Versity
Paul Brittain ... Bro-Botix member
Steve Higgins ... announcer (voice)
Taran Killam ... Bro-Botix member
Bobby Moynihan ... Coughy Robinson
Nasim Pedrad ... Ricky
Jay Pharoah ... Shooting Starr
Andy Samberg ... Gary St. Marvelous
Jason Sudeikis ... Ocean Billy
Kenan Thompson ... Maxwell family member
Kenan Thompson ... announcer (voice)
Kristen Wiig ... Triangle Sally

A new DVD collection celebrates the very worst of Soul Train.

REVIEW: Bobby drives this one home as the host of a show that features the performers' talents! Everybody was golden here, making it another gauntlet of hilarious bits (like the Back to the Future DVD commercials). Taran and Paul were funny (mostly Taran there), Jim was hilarious of course (so funny), and Nasim, Andy, Jason, and Kristen all gave important bits.

Andy Samberg's Gary has a lame gag, but he sells it very well!

Kristen's Triangle Sally got an extended applause and cheering (the only one)! And Kristen didn't even say a word! Kudos to Kristen!

Enjoy!

Andy Samberg finds his power? (SNL skit)

Show - Finding Your Power

Jim Carrey ... Garrett
Vanessa Bayer ... Jessica
Andy Samberg ... Ethan
Jason Sudeikis ... Zack Twinefeld

This is a Jason skit.

On 'Finding Your Power' guests talk about how they dealt with adversity, then hidden cameras show how it really went.

Jason hosts this show where Andy, Jim, and Vanessa take turns being lying cop outs. Amusing, but a little repetitive. It could have ended after Andy or just had the bit of Jim and would have been punchier and just as funny. They really needed a new gag after Andy's instead of repeating it two more times.

Enjoy!

Andy Samberg is Cameron The Red-Winged Blackbird (Weekend Update)

Andy Samberg ... Cameron The Red-Winged Blackbird
Taran Killam ... Everett The Fish
Seth Meyers

The lone survivor of the massive bird deaths in Arkansas gives his theory.

Andy's third appearance as a bird in the news really sold well (sort of a series Andy has going), and Taran supported well as the fish. A great Weekend Update!

Enjoy!

Gweneth Paltrow hosting SNL this week

Late news, but...

Cee Lo & Gwyneth Paltrow Gear Up for SNL

Gwyneth Paltrow is to return as host of "Saturday Night Live" this month in an episode to feature musical guest Cee Lo Green, NBC said Tuesday.

Paltrow recently made headlines for her cleaned-up cover of Green's song "(Expletive) You" on the TV comedy series "Glee."

Since then, rumors have been swirling that she and Green would duet on a new version of the song.

NBC did not address the buzz, but said Paltrow will serve as guest host of "SNL" Jan. 15, while Green is to make his debut as a performer on the sketch comedy series.

Cee Lo Green's Take...

Rapper Cee Lo says he and A-list U.S. actress Gwyneth Paltrow may team up on a music project in the near future.

Cee Lo told E! Online this week that the seemingly unlikely pair began considering some ideas following Paltrow's G-rated cover version of a Cee Lo song that contains an F-bomb in the title.

"We'll see what pans out," Cee Lo said in New York. "It's a little too early to commit to a statement and I won't ruin the surprise because whatever we're going to do is going to be extra cool."

CNN said Cee Lo also said he would be open to appearing on the prime time Fox television series "Glee" just as Paltrow did when she warbled the Cee Lo song. He, however, was less willing to tone down his trademark salty lyrics.

"I curse like a sailor," he said. "They've got to keep it real with me."

Andy Samberg's Glamour interview (Feb 2011) version 2

Okay. Here is our second version of this article. I figured it's different enough just to post it again. This scoop comes from Anony. Thanks Anony!

Why Funny Guys Like Andy Samberg Always Win...

Because they’ve got the nerve to wear green hot pants! Meet Andy Samberg, star of Saturday Night Live, pal of Justin Timberlake and (did ya know?) singer in the band Lonely Island. Like he needs to be in a band to get chicks.

by Amy Spencer

So what was it like working with the models on the shoot?

They were lovely. I felt bad for them because it was chilly. I felt like a mother hen protecting my eggs.

You must have been pretty cold yourself. Tell us about the shorts.

I was petitioning for shorter. These were the shortest shorts we had, so I just rocked ‘em.

How do you feel about tight jeans on women?

I’m a fan. My high school years were during the nineties, and me and my friends often talk about how we got ripped off, because every generation but ours had a tight-jean phase. We had the TLC phase, where the ladies were wearing baggy Girbauds and loose overalls with one strap. Which, you know, is not without its charms. But we certainly never got that supertight, high-cut shorts, Dazed and Confused look.

How do you get your hair to do the things it does?

I’ve been training it since high school, so now each hair is like its own organism. I can do specific sweeps through with my hand.

What is the sexiest thing a woman can do?

Um, I guess sleep with me? I consider it a very sexy thing if a woman has sex with me.

What’s the sexiest thing a woman can wear?

Whatever Phoebe Cates was wearing in Gremlins. She had kind of a sweater-beret situation.

You’re friends with Justin Timberlake. What kind of attention do you get from girls when you’re out with him?

I could count the times I’ve been out with him on one hand. We hang out a lot of times when we’re working on stuff, but he gets plenty of attention.

When you’re not out with him, do you call each other?

We Skype each other constantly before we go out for an evening to make sure the other one thinks the other one has a good outfit on or something. He’s always Skyping me asking if I think he looks good in [his] jeans. [Laughs.]

Who is the funniest woman you’ve ever met?

That’s a tough one. I’ve worked with arguably some of the funniest women of all time—Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Rachel Dratch, Tina Fey, Kristen Wiig—that’s an incredible list right there.

What is the sexiest thing a woman can say?

[Laughs.] God, I’m so bad with that. I would say, first off, never once in my life have I used the word sexy. So probably like, “The Jerk is my favorite movie,” something like that.

What’s the sexiest thing you do, and when do you feel the sexiest?

I have never done a sexy thing, and I have never felt sexy. [Laughs.] This conversation is the most times I’ve said the word sexy in my life.

You don’t need to say it again for four more years.

Oh, no, I’m going to say it constantly now. But I don’t truly believe that men can be sexy. The attempt of sexiness on a man’s part always ends in lameness.

If we spent the night at your house, what might we notice about your place in the morning?

Um…probably my exact replica of the Sistine Chapel that I have done on the ceiling?

I think we’re all going to want to spend the night at your house now, because that sounds spectacular.

Well, tell everyone they’re invited. We’ll have a big slumber party.

What's Cuter: These Spring Outfits, or Saturday Night Live's Andy Samberg?

For our February 2011 Guy Issue, we sat down with one of the funniest dudes we know, Mr. Andy Samberg himself, to pick his brain about why the funny guy always wins. Then, we threw him into the ring with some gorgeous gals to show off some of spring's chicest looks (he didn't mind, trust us), and we couldn't figure out what we loved more—the 20 retro-cute outfits, or the even cuter guy rocking the short shorts. Decide for yourself (and peep some seriously sweet styles)!

Go red, white and sexy blue. Seventies influences are everywhere this spring, and 1976 bicentennial style looks very now.

Get something sharp and citrus. This isn’t the year for pales—whatever juicy color you like, pick its deepest form.

Be relaxed about retro. You want easy pieces that reference the past (like a belted bikini), not a costume.

Glam it up with some sparkle (or just try short shorts). With colors this intense, silver or gold (or both!) works as a neutral.

Grab some old-school denim. Think worn-in wash, slightly high-waisted and tight in the tush.

Andy: The best thing is you're able to maintain a long-distance relationship much more hands on. Without getting into too much detail, that has definitely come in handy in my life. The worst is texting with someone who doesn't have the text "tone" as you. You gotta build your own text language together.

SNL Review: January 8, 2011 - Jim Carrey & The Black Keys

We're going to start this week with a basic review. Overall, Andy was in 4 skits. The highlights were his Cameron The Red-Winged Blackbird on Weekend Update (his third appearance as a bird in the news, so this is almost a sequel of sorts) and his contribution to the Soul Train skit, Gary St. Marvelous. Not bad, but not an Andy-heavy episode.

There was no digital short this week, but they often take a week off after a big success like "I Just Had Sex." But I would have loved to see Andy make a short with Jim Carrey. And now the reviews...

Click the linked titles to see the videos!

Cold Opening - A Message From The Mayor
Fred Armisen ... Mike Bloomberg
Kristen Wiig ... announcer (voice)

REVIEW: Watching Fred monologue at the camera in character just doesn't do it for me. Go back and watch Chevy Chase's Ford impressions (or Ferrell's or Dana Carvey's Bushes). Chevy was firing off hilarious jokes and ended with a hilarious prat fall. Even when Aykroyd's Carter came on, it was hilarious. Fred and writer Jim Downey need to go watch those old cold openings (especially since Jim probably wrote some of them).

This one was just a one gag by Fred about how disastrous snow is. It directly makes fun of something in the news, but they need to focus on funny first, not the details of what is being said. I heard courtesy laughs.

Monologue

Jim Carrey

REVIEW: A hilarious monologue from Jim completely makes up for Fred's opening. He ends super well by proposing to a woman in the audience (an obvious plant, but she plays it well, as if she isn't a plant) and to a large dude.

Commercial - Bosley Hair Restoration
Fred Armisen ... Mark H.
Bobby Moynihan ... client
Nasim Pedrad ... girlfriend
Jason Sudeikis ... spokesperson
Kristen Wiig ... Adelle K.

REVIEW: This is a rerun. Still funny. The basic idea is that the hair transplant comes from pubic regions. Sort of disgusting when they show the hair on Fred, Bobby, and Kristen, but still hilarious. A good one to rerun.

Sketch - Black Swan

Jim Carrey ... Lily
Bill Hader ... Thomas
Taran Killam ... David
Nasim Pedrad ... Nina
Kristen Wiig ... dancer

REVIEW: And then... BOOM! They air the best skit of the night, one that might get Jim an Emmy nomination (or the writers), one that make you feel GREAT about the show, that reminds you why Jim Carrey was once a super star, that makes you want Jim Carrey to be a superstar again, and finally a skit that makes you want Jim to permanently host this show (or his own show). He reveals here that he is the reason why this episode is so good, and that the one skit without him (Fred's cold opening) was probably the only skit (sans Weekend Update) that he didn't help write and that's why it was the only lacking skit.

So, what happened? Well, Jim did his ballerina character that he showed briefly in Ace Ventura, and he managed to use that to make fun of Natalie Portman's new Black Swan movie, with excellent supporting roles from Nasim Pedrad and Bill Hader. Jim was a female ballerina (Lily) who was competing with Nasim's Nina to do the Black Swan. (Not to mention Kristen Wiig's brief but hilarious appearance, and even Taran Killam coming on to "feed" Jim's swan was equally hilarious.) I would have loved to see one or two more original characters like this from Jim (his dojo instructor from his first SNL appearance would have been good). And then it ends with a Jim Carrey painted face gag that pays further homage to the Black Swan trailer. Overall, this was amazing. It's like Jim's presence makes the show 3 times better!

Show - Finding Your Power
Jim Carrey ... Garrett
Vanessa Bayer ... Jessica
Andy Samberg ... Ethan
Jason Sudeikis ... Zack Twinefeld

REVIEW: Jason hosts this show where Andy, Jim, and Vanessa take turns being lying cop outs. Amusing, but a little repetitive. It could have ended after Andy or just had the bit of Jim and would have been punchier and just as funny. They really needed a new gag after Andy's instead of repeating it two more times.

Commercial - Grady Wilson's Tantric 'n Tasty
Jim Carrey ... Leelicious
Kenan Thompson ... Grady Wilson

REVIEW: Amazingly, Jim Carrey takes one of my least favorite SNL and Kenan skits and turns into awesomeness! Jim's physical comedy once again just outdoes the original performer (he did this with the Night at the Roxbury Butabi brothers last time he hosted). Jim took this thing over (my favorite was the Baboon move).

Commercial - The Worst of Soul Train
Jim Carrey ... D'Versity
Paul Brittain ... Bro-Botix member
Steve Higgins ... announcer (voice)
Taran Killam ... Bro-Botix member
Bobby Moynihan ... Coughy Robinson
Nasim Pedrad ... Ricky
Jay Pharoah ... Shooting Starr
Andy Samberg ... Gary St. Marvelous
Jason Sudeikis ... Ocean Billy
Kenan Thompson ... Maxwell family member
Kenan Thompson ... announcer (voice)
Kristen Wiig ... Triangle Sally

REVIEW: Bobby drives this one home as the host of a show that features the performers' talents! Everybody was golden here, making it another gauntlet of hilarious bits (like the Back to the Future DVD commercials). Taran and Paul were funny (mostly Taran there), Jim was hilarious of course, and Nasim, Andy, Jason, and Kristen all gave important bits. My least favorite were from Jay Pharoah and Kenan Thompson.

Musical Performance "Howlin' For You"
The Black Keys

Weekend Update

Seth Meyers
Kristen Wiig ... Nancy Pelosi
Bill Hader ... John Boehner
Bobby Moynihan ... Anthony Crispino
Andy Samberg ... Cameron The Red-Winged Blackbird
Taran Killam ... Everett The Fish

REVIEW: Once again, Andy's third appearance as a bird in the news really sold well (sort of a series Andy has going), and Taran supported well as the fish. Kristen and Bill tore up their impressions! And of course, Bobby's Crispino does very well (but I would have taken out the second-to-last gag, because it slowed down before it picked up at the end). A great Weekend Update!

Sketch - Merryville Trolley Ride (Amusement Park)
Jim Carrey ... robot
Bill Hader ... robot
Taran Killam ... robot
Bobby Moynihan ... repairman
Kenan Thompson ... guy
Kristen Wiig ... girl

REVIEW: Oh my gosh! By far my second favorite skit of the night (behind Black Swan). This truly shows the talents of Taran Killam who actually out-performs Jim Carrey as an animatronic robot (is this even possible?). Another skit that Jim made gold with physical comedy, and it brings to life all our animatronic nightmares! Beautiful, and well played by Kenan as the victim.

My guess is that Jim was throwing out ideas, and a writer latched onto this one and turned it into a skit. And somewhere along the way Taran spoke up and said, "I can do a robot!" (Or perhaps the writer saw him do the Tin Man earlier this season or something else Taran has done and realized that Taran is an amazing robot... afterall, it's almost impossible to be better than Jim Carrey at any physical comedy like this.)

Sketch - Psychic Medium
Jim Carrey ... psychic
Vanessa Bayer ... customer
Nasim Pedrad ... customer
Jason Sudeikis ... customer

REVIEW: Jim gets a chance to do his Jimmy Stewart, Alan Thicke, and other fun impressions (although a little distracting when he's wearing that beard). Jason helps sell the gags. Vanessa and Nasim also help Jim out here.

Musical Performance "Tighten Up"
The Black Keys

Sketch - A Taste of New York

Jim Carrey ... musician
Fred Armisen ... musician
Vanessa Bayer ... audience member
Paul Brittain ... audience member
Abby Elliott ... audience member
Bill Hader ... emcee
Andy Samberg ... audience member
Kristen Wiig ... musician

REVIEW: I don't know. I didn't get into this one. Fred and Kristen almost take turns doing these nightshow characters with weird music (my favorite was Kristen Wiig with Jon Hamm), and this one is merely amusing. Jim, Fred, and Kristen (no names?) come out and sing authentic New York songs that aren't very exciting (and seem to be from the perspective of the homeless or drug-addicted). Amusing, and the audience (including Andy) sell it well with facial expressions. I would have preferred ending with the Amusement Park sketch.

Thoughts on the skits this week?

Enjoy!

Andy Samberg - Larry King interview (video)

Thanks to Anony for the scoop!

You can see the video here:

http://castroller.com/podcasts/TheLarryKing/1851877-Inside%20Saturday%20Night%20Live

Lorne's not wearing his signature sports jacket, t-shirt, and jeans! =^)

Larry King calls Kristen Wiig an Emmy winner (and Andy). Interestingly, she didn't correct him or show any surprise. Maybe she wasn't paying attention and heard "nominated" or something. She was nominated in 2009 and 2010 as a supporting actress. She hasn't won yet. (This is interesting that she's the one he calls an Emmy winner, because Lorne has been nominated 49 times with 13 wins, Amy has been nominated 3 times with no wins, Seth has been nominated 3 times with no wins, Fred has no Emmy nominations, and Andy has been nominated 3 times with one win, not to mention a Grammy nomination.) So he should have called Lorne an Emmy winner instead of Kristen Wiig. The only way he could have messed that up worse is if he called Fred the Emmy winner. =^)

Regarding Lorne's answer about how SNL came about: To add on to what Lorne said, Johnny Carson wanted to run his reruns during the week for a break sometimes. So it's really Johnny's fault that SNL started. =^)

5-minute audition times...

Interesting that Kristen Wiig's Target Lady was pulled directly from a lady at Target.

Enjoy!

Andy Samberg to be Larry in Three Stooges???

Knoxville & Samberg on 'Three Stooges' Shortlist

Knoxville (Moe):

"Jackass" prankster Johnny Knoxville, "Saturday Night Live" star Andy Samberg and Australian comic Shane Jacobson are on the shortlist to play Moe, Larry and Curly, respectively, in 20th Century Fox's "Three Stooges," TheWrap has learned from an agency insider.

This would be a major shift in direction for the project, which initially had Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn and Jim Carrey circling the iconic titular roles, though the latter two actors have officially dropped out of the running. It makes sense, however, as not only would Knoxville, Samberg and Jacobson appeal to younger audiences -- there's an entire generation (or two) that's mostly unfamiliar with the Stooges -- but they're also more in line with the spirit of the original slapstick trio.

Samberg (Larry):

And though nothing yet is confirmed, advances have been made, representatives have been approached and discussions have taken place, the agency insider said.

20th Century Fox recently took over the long-gestating comedy from MGM, with Peter and Bobby Farrelly on hand to direct from a script they co-wrote with Mike Cerrone. Conundrum partner Bradley Thomas will produce with Charles B. Wessler, while Earl Benjamin, the gatekeeper of the Stooges' estate, will exec produce.

Shane Jacobson (Curly):

The plan is to divide the PG-rated film into three, 27-minute segments driven by physical comedy, with a start date of March 14.

Peter Farrelly has previously stated that the Stooges could be played by "a major movie star or an unknown," and this trio incorporates both of those possibilities, with Knoxville having propelled "Jackass 3D" to an impressive $117 million domestic gross, while Jacobson is hardly a household word outside of his native Australia.

Fox to Start Production on 'Three Stooges' Movie in March Dec 02, 2010Exclusive: Ramirez, Kebbell to Join 'Titans' Sequel; Atwell Testing Jan 07, 2011
What's more, the Farrellys have worked with Knoxville before on "The Ringer," which the brothers produced. Knoxville always has seemed like a strong candidate for the role, considering that he and his "Jackass" brethren are the modern-day equivalent of the Stooges. Vanity Fair's profile of Knoxville and his "Jackass 3D" co-stars, in fact, was headlined "The 3D Stooges," and Knoxville appeared in the magazine's photo shoot as Moe (pictured above).

Samberg obviously has a strong comedic background as a "Saturday Night Live" veteran and a member of the Grammy-nominated comedy troupe the Lonely Island. His "SNL" digital shorts have become viral sensations online and he continues to have a growing presence on the big screen.

While his star vehicle "Hot Rod" may be the single strangest studio release I've ever seen, Samberg was a scene-stealer in the hit comedy "I Love You, Man" and he has supporting roles in two upcoming romantic comedies, "Friends With Benefits" and "What's Your Number?"

As for Jacobson, he won raves overseas for his performance in the 2006 mockumentary "Kenny." He began performing at age 10 and started his comedy career at the age of 18. He currently co-hosts the car show "Top Gear Australia."

==========

Andy was also a scene stealer in his other films, Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, Space Chimps, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

Kind of strange that Larry would be the best looking and funniest of the stooges, but it works for me! Andy definitely needs higher profile gigs! It can't hurt his movie career at this point. =^)

Although Dukes of Hazard hasn't really helped Knoxville's career much, he still pulls forward with other projects, and that has saved his career. So this can be a good stepping stone for Andy.

Makes sense that they dropped the original cast (Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn, and Jim Carrey), especially if Jim Carrey pulled out (then there's no saving the other two; Carrey was the only good choice).

And they make good points that these three will attract younger audiences, have comedic timing, and they look their parts (Moe should be shorter and stubbier, but the Knoxville picture proves he can pull it off without that build).

Thanks to Anony for the scoop!

Enjoy!

Andy Samberg - I Just Had Sex (SNL Digital Short)

Update: We added some images and a sweet, animated GIF! Yay! We also added a link to the lyrics. Originally posted 12/19 at 2:10 AM (PST).
=================================

Here are the lyrics:

   http://andysamberg.blogspot.com/2010/12/i-just-had-sex-lyrics-lonely-island.html

The first single of The Lonely Island's 2nd album!!!
Featuring Akon, Jessica Alba, Blake Lively and John McEnroe!

So this starts out feeling like a remake of I'm On a Boat (describing something basic). But you quickly forget that with all the gags here and with the awesome appearances of Akon, Jessica Alba, and Blake Lively. Hilarious!

It's also cool when Jessica and Blake start dancing near the end.

Akon's loving this song. =^)

First single of TLI's new album in 2011. This proves that Andy's on the album and that this is probably what Jorma is focusing on. (With the last album, they did it in the summer, and they're doing it during SNl this time, so it makes sense that Jorma stepped away from SNL to focus on stuff like this.)

And the fireworks at the end are awesome! This is by far my favorite digital short of the year. I just wonder if they can follow it up with another hit single or two (like how they followed up Jiz* in My Pants last time with I'm On a Boat and Like a Boss (plus Mother Lover, but that was origainl and not on the album)).

Oh, wow, I just saw the "sexolympics" sign. Hahahaha. And check out Akon's facial expression with the fireworks at the end! Hilarious!!! And check out Jorma's expression when he jumps on his mom and dad! He looks all crazy! =^)

So Andy and TLI met Blake Lively when she cameo'd on SNL in a James Franco Digital Short on 09.20.2008. She then hosted on 12.05.2009 and did a promo with Andy. She had Andy do his Swedish Chef in her monologue. (She didn't do a digital short with Andy because Andy did Shy Ronnie with Rihanna that episode.) And this is Blake's second cameo and third appearance/episode of SNL.

Andy met Jessica Alba back in 2006. Andy was a writer for two years on the MTV Movie Awards (2004, 2005), and Jimmy Fallon hosted in 2005, and got Andy and TLI on SNL. So they (probably the producers or writers) connected with Andy, and they brought Andy into a skit for the 2006 MTV Movie Awards (yes, Andy hosted the Movie Awards three years later, in 2009). In 2006, Jessica Alba was hosting. So Andy played Ron Google, Seth played himself as an audience member, and Jessica got disgusted about how Andy and Seth made fun of how everyone was googling Jessica. So that's how Andy met Jessica. This digital short is Jessica's first appearance EVER on SNL.

This was aired during the following episode...

December 18, 2010
Host: Jeff Bridges
Musical Guests: Eminem, Lil Wayne

About the episode: Andy was in five skits this week, including this one. He got to play Rahm Emanuel, Mark Zuckerberg, his ancestor Moishe Samberg (back for a second time from a Justin Timberlake immigration skit), and Billy Bob Thornton. This was a much-needed dose of Andy after him only being in the Stumblin digital short last week with Paul Rudd. We need Andy on the show to make sure it's got some good parts (not saying Andy's the only good player, but he certainly helps when he's in lots of skits like this). Go Andy, go!

What's your favorite part of "I Just Had Sex"?

Enjoy!

Canon EOS 5D Mark II and 7D were used to capture video for a new opening title sequence for NBC's long-running sketch show Saturday Night Live (SNL).

On Location: SNL cast member Andy Samberg (centre, white shirt/dark tie) and others review video captured with a 5D Mark II. Click photo to enlarge (Photo courtesy Canon)

I had a very nice email from Alex Buono, the SNL DP who recently shot the new title sequence on the 7d and 5d as well as loads of other bits and pieces. They normally use film, Cinealta, Varicam or the HVX but they shot on the 7d and 5d for the first time recently. They wanted to shoot the new title sequence with the 5dmkiI and the 7d after seeing my little Dublin’s People short apparently, which is very flattering.

They also have used it for studio sketches like the one above for “Bladivan”.

Alex said he was impressed, he gave some feedback to Canon to what he would like to see improved which is great. I think he does an awesome job above but wait till you see the other stuff he has done with it including the new title sequence. Here are some frame grabs ©NBC.COM. It’s fantastic and if you can see it in HD when it is next on (Saturday?) then DO IT!! See these new DSLRs being used fantastically. I understand the 5dmkII and the 7d were used in this opening sequence. The majority was shot with the 5dmkii at 30p with some stuff on the 7d in 60p mode for slow motion.

Should Bobby Moynihan's Nathan Lane impression lead an SNL skit?

So it's time for my first editorial of 2011!

Here is Bobby Moynihan playing Nathan Lane:

Bobby has played Nathan Lane three times now:

02.07.2009 - No Bruce! Let Me Finish! The Best Of Celebrity Tirades

10.03.2009 - So You Committed A Crime & You Think You Can Dance

03.13.2010 - Hamlet Audition

True Nathan Lane isn't super popular, but I think that's okay, if it's hilarious.

Click here to see the details of our editorial about why Bobby Moynihan should lead a skit with his Nathan Lane character (and our historical reasoning, based on other SNL skits):

http://bobbymoynihan.blogspot.com/2011/01/should-bobby-moynihans-nathan-lane.html

Besides, I would love to see Andy Samberg's Nicholas Cage (or Billy Bob Thornton) impression on the show, acting as a fish out of water in a strange, musical environment.

What do you think? Should Bobby's Lane impression lead a skit? Would this be funny?

Remember to go here to read the full argument:

No, this isn't directly related to Andy enough, which is why we're doing another post later today.

Enjoy!

Did Betty White help save SNL in 2010?

"Saturday Night Live" was all right with Betty White (right). The 88-year-old host fit in well with cast members, like Kristen Wiig. / Photo provided by NBC

Betty White hosts "SNL": Facebook users demanded it, Lorne Michaels acquiesced, and 88-year-old Betty ruled the land. We all expected the show would treat her gently and use her in a few sketches, but as it happened, she worked harder at it than any other host all season. This seemed to cheer up the national mood immensely, if briefly.

Read about the other shows here:

Also, this won Betty White an Emmy. SNL also won for makeup, and Don Roy King won for directing this Betty White episode. Kristen was also nominated for an Emmy for her SNL work for that season (her second Emmy nomination). Other nominations include Tina Fey (Betty beat her out in that category; Tina has previously won an Emmy for SNL), Andy Samberg (And has won previously), and Akiva and Jorm were nominated again for writing (they also both had won with Andy).

Enjoy!

Ask ASB: When did Hot Rod come out?

This might be a lame question to some people, but somebody asked it, and we probably have some newer Andy fans who don't know this. So it's time for...

Ask Andy Samberg Blog: When did Hot Rod come out?

August 3, 2007, but Will Ferrell first brought it to Lorne and Andy immediately after Lazy Sunday blasted off (Lazy Sunday was released in December 2005).

Rewind. First, Pam Brady wrote it with Will Ferrell in mind. (Pam Brady wrote on South Park, Just Shoot Me, and Team America: World Police.)

Here's Pam:

She pitched it to Will, who loved it, but it wasn't a high priority on his acting table (he was going for bigger budgets and bigger bangs), so he decided to produce it instead (this is quite normal where actors decline to act in a film, but they end up producing it instead).

So when Lazy Sunday blew up (and pretty much put YouTube and, thus, NBC Videos, on the map), Will Ferrell thought of Andy, and so Will approached Lorne to see what Lorne thought. Lorne agreed that the boy should get a break. So Andy Samberg was attached to it in early 2006.

At first they thought that the writer (Pam Brady of South Park) might direct it. But Andy immediately pitched Akiva to direct and so the producers (including Will Ferrell, Lorne Michaels, and Seth Meyers) let the Lonely Island boys run with it. It took them a year and a half to make it and release it.

And because Lazy Sunday got them the film, they had to find a bit role for Chris Parnell (even though he was let go from SNL a second time by that point).

And here are two bonus questions and answers about Hot Rod...

What song plays during the riot scene?
"You're The Voice" by John Farnham.

Does Rod kill Frank at the end?
No, he uses the Tai-Chi move he learned from Denise to make Frank instantly crap his pants.

To which 80s movies does Hot Rod pay homage? (from Anony)
The punch-dancing scene is a nod to Footloose, and the scene where the old man oils up Rod is a nod to Roadhouse.

Enjoy!
