The bottom line is that Saturday Night Live has always pumped out talent, and it continues to do so. Andy Samberg and the Lonely Island need to get a script together to pitch. I'm sure they made Hot Rod funnier than it would have been, but they need to start with a solid script in order to get people interested in the movie. The audience has to be interested in the characters and the jokes. While the jokes in the Hot Rod trailers made us smile, they didn't make us laugh. And the characters weren't strong enough to interest us (they were very flat). Basically Andy was playing a role meant to be played by Will Ferrell. So it was written knowing that only Will could make that character likable. Well they need to write one that's meant for Andy to do.
