TLI's 2007 win:
First, and most importantly...
Andy Samberg received his second Emmy nomination! (In addition to Jorma, Akiva, Justin Timberlake, and Asa (Jorm's bro).) Also note that Andy and the dudes are going against Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab, the creators of Channel 101, which is where The Lonely Island got its start. Justin is nominated twice in this category, also for his song on the ESPYS. So the dudes are going against their 101 pals and Justin himself.
Plus Justin is nominated for hosting SNL (see below), which I admit was probably the best SNL episode of the season, especially as far as the host performances go.
Why didn't "Ji** in My Pants" or "I'm On a Boat" get nominated instead? One guess is that Mother Lover was the best song musically and a song style they prefer (versus Rap or Techno). Another guess is that Mother Lover was a bigger deal, having recruited Justin Timberlake, Patricia Clarkson, and Susan Sarandon. Another guess is that Mother Lover is original for SNL, while the other two (and all the other songs of this season) were orginally made with the Lonely Island CD in mind. Maybe it was a combination?

In the other SNL Award Nominations, Justin and Tina Fey get nods for their appearances, and Amy and Kristen get nods for acting. I agree with a previous anony comment that I hope the Emmys recognizes some of the SNL dudes in the future for the supporting actor comedy category, including Andy Samberg, Bill Hader, and more.

Also, interesting enough, Family Guy gets nominated in the Comedy category (not the usual animation, voice over, and music categories). Wow. That's the second time an animated sitcom has been nominated for the Comedy category (first was Flinstones, and it didn't win). However, that means fiercer competition and it also means it got overlooked for the animated program category, a category that it has always lost to Simpsons or South Park (and had a decent chance of winning this year). So Family Guy is leaving American Dad (first Emmy nomination), Robot Chicken, South Park, and the Simpsons to battle it out in that category this year. King of the Hill doesn't get nominated this year (but they won once in 97, which is more than Family Guy, American Dad, and Robot Chicken have done).
