Not exactly a movie star, Andy Samberg has appeared in several movies, most notably as the lead in the less-than-acclaimed Hot Rod. The film grossed a mere $14 million domestically, which are not exactly star-making numbers. Samberg is far better known for his current stint on Saturday Night Live, which began in 2005. Samberg has had a fairly limited number of appearances in skits during the course of the show. However, an SNL highlight, Samberg’s SNL Digital Shorts, have become quite famous.
Among these shorts are the wildly popular “D*** in a Box” featuring Justin Timberlake, “Mother Lover” and “Dear Sister,” a spoof on the season 2 finale of The OC. Not to mention, Samberg is responsible for one of the most popular iTunes and YouTube downloads, “J*** in my Pants.” Samberg created this song with his group, The Lonely Island, which also features Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone. The Lonely Island has taken Samberg’s SNL digital short success and used it to become internet stars. Their other work includes “I'm on a Boat” and "Cool Guys Don't Look at Explosions," which was featured when Samberg hosted the MTV Movie Awards.
A number of stars have appeared in Samberg and The Lonely Island’s videos, including Timberlake, Shia Labeouf, Seth Rogan, Will Ferrell and Jake Gyllenhaal. The star power in the videos and Samberg’s hosting of the MTV Movie Awards point to future stardom for Samberg. The Lonely Island's CD, Incredibad, released in December 2008, is available on iTunes and features most of their hits, making 27 tracks in total. There is also an associated DVD available.

With Samberg’s popularity near its peak, perhaps now would be the ideal time for him to jump back onto the silver screen and see if he can be a leading draw for moviegoers. His lead in Hot Rod was followed up with a cameo in Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist and a small role in I Love You, Man. He will be providing the voice of Brent in the upcoming animated feature Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. However, if a studio is willing to take another shot on Samberg as a lead, now might be a good time to move.

Agreed. Andy is on top of the world. What's next for Andy Samberg and his TLI cohorts?
Here are some ideas:
1) Try another movie like Hot Rod. But this time, the dudes should write it themselves. I'm thinking maybe Young Chuck Norris, a Laser Cats movie (with a special effects budget), something totally original, or a mock high scool love story (going back to their Bu and Dear Sister successes).
2) Take the summer to make another CD. They apparently have a contract to make two more CDs. Plus it will give us some more great SNL digital shorts next year, continuing the success they've had with their great shorts this year (we've had a lot more songs this year).
3) Eventually leave SNL and start their own variety show. They could get Justin Timberlake to show up every month or so. But please give us at least one more season of SNL. =^)
4) Host the MTV Movie Awards every year. The producer expressed interest in that. Take him up on it.
TLI has a lot of options right now!
Enjoy!

Am I going blind or does the top of the magazine cover pic say Sexytime with Rilo Kiley? wtf?! Sorry, I just think that sounds like a *unique* article title.
What's next: marry Joanna Newsom and make the cutest babies ever!
