Big surprise... Andy Samberg is back on Saturday Night Live for the 07-08 season. The first episode of the season is this Saturday, 9/29/07.

It looks like there are no changes to the cast this year. It's Hammond's 13th year (a record). I think Maya Rudolph, Will Forte, Fred Armisand, and Keenan Thompson should head out soon. I'm glad Seth is still out of the skits.

The first episode of the season is to be hosted by Lebron James, followed by Seth Rogan. Seth and Andy appeared in the Ron Google skit Andy did for MTV. Here's the skit.

Andy Samberg - New movie: Space Chimp

From Hollywood Reporter:

"NEW YORK -- Andy Samberg, Jeff Daniels, Kenan Thompson, Stanley Tucci and Patrick Warburton will voice characters in the CG-animated comedy "Space Chimps," a Vanguard Animation and Starz Media production for 20th Century Fox.

Barry Sonnenfeld, a creative consultant on the film since production began last fall, has joined Vanguard CEO John Williams as a producer on the film.

Samberg will play Ham III, the ne'er-do-well grandson of the first chimp astronaut sent into space (loosely based on NASA's real-life space chimp Ham). Seeking to capitalize on the Ham family name, a senator (Tucci) recruits Ham III to travel through a black hole to a planet where he and his simian colleagues (Hines, Warburton) help rid the local aliens of an evil leader (Daniels). Chenoweth will play a helpful alien, and Thompson will play Ham III's mentor.

The film is written and directed by Kirk DeMicco ("Racing Stripes") and produced in association with Odyssey Entertainment, which will rep international sales. The film is scheduled for release next year.

Sonnenfeld's productions include "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" and "Out of Sight," and his directing credits include the "Addams Family" and "Men in Black" films.

Saturday Night Live cast member Samberg will be seen in the upcoming Hot Rod. Samberg is repped by UTA and Mosaic Media Group."

The bottom line is that Saturday Night Live has always pumped out talent, and it continues to do so. The fact that Lorne is helping get Andy into movies is a testament to Andy's future in film. He and the Lonely Island need to get a script together to pitch. I'm sure they made Hot Rod funnier than it would have been, but they need to start with a solid script in order to get people interested in the movie. They have to be interested in the characters and the jokes. While the jokes in the trailers made us smile, they didn't make us laugh. And the characters weren't strong enough to interest us.
