Andy Samberg - Poops his pants when he's punched
Description:
"Haha I loved the movie Hot Rod, I was laughing throughout the movie but it was little obscure moments like this that just made the movie hilarious. Mainly because his recation is exactly how 99% of all guys would act in that situation, it was very believable, so Midway think you can make this the next Mortal Kombat Finishing Move?"
Andy Quote:
"Yeah, we could. Or we could cut the kiddie stuff and show the crap yourself move."

Andy Samberg - Reveals how Iran So Far came together
From:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/04/arts/television/04snl.html?_r=1&em&ex=1191643200&en=ff67beb78711fd02&ei=5087%0A&oref=slogin
"The latest hit for “Saturday Night Live” on the Internet began taking shape on Sept. 24, when Andy Samberg and a group of his colleagues on the show were sitting around their offices, scrounging for a celebrity or politician “who could really use a love song right now.” Around the same time, Seth Meyers, the show’s head writer, was imagining a skit in which Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the president of Iran, would be depicted on a wild night out on the town.
Before long the ideas fused, and by last Saturday, opening night for the 33rd season of “Saturday Night Live,” the group had produced a three-minute music video titled “I Ran So Far Away.” In it, a crooning, piano-playing Mr. Samberg and a doppelgänger for the Iranian president (his castmate Fred Armisen, bearded and in a gray suit and open-neck dress shirt) dance and appear to fall in love — giving apparent lie to Mr. Ahmadinejad’s contention at Columbia University that there were no homosexuals in Iran.
By yesterday afternoon, just four days after its network premiere, the various versions of the video posted on YouTube had been viewed nearly 300,000 times, according to tallies posted on the site. For Mr. Samberg and his main collaborators — Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone — “I Ran” is something of a sequel. Last year, NBC posted an uncensored version of a boy-band video the group made — the cleaned-up title was “Special Treat in a Box” — in which Justin Timberlake and Mr. Samberg each appeared to be making a gift of their male anatomy. Thus far, that film has been seen more than 29 million times on YouTube, and last month it won an Emmy.
However popular, such films — including “Lazy Sunday,” a rapping homage to “The Chronicles of Narnia” — have not appeared to raise the ratings of the show itself. Last season, “Saturday Night Live” drew an average of about 6.4 million viewers a week, which was down from the year before. But the digital shorts have given the show, and Mr. Samberg in particular, a Web presence and cachet.
Considering that Mr. Samberg and his crew typically create their digital films in little more than 48 hours, the six days they spent on “I Ran” made it feel like a feature film. First, Mr. Samberg said, they developed the song’s R&B beat, which had elements of LL Cool J, the Wu-Tang Clan and an outright sample from Aphex Twin, an electronic performer.
The chorus, “I Ran,” is a knock-off of the 1980s Flock of Seagulls hit of the same name. But otherwise, the words were original. Among the more memorable lines Mr. Samberg sings to the Iranian president are:
You can deny the Holocaust all you want
But you can’t deny that there’s something between us
At another point, Mr. Samberg invokes “The Passion of the Christ” and its star, singing :
They call you weasel
They say your methods are medieval
You can play the Jews
I can be your Jim Caviezel
The film also features two cameos, personally arranged by Mr. Samberg. Adam Levine, the lead singer of the band Maroon 5, sings the “I Ran” chorus. Mr. Samberg, 29, said in an interview yesterday that he had sent a text message to a mutual friend, saying he had a perfect part for Mr. Levine to sing. The problem was that Mr. Levine was in Detroit. Mr. Samberg persuaded the singer to fly to New York early Friday morning. He then went straight to the makeshift recording studio in Mr. Samberg’s office and, on only a few hours sleep, traveled to Brooklyn to film his scenes. He was back on a plane to Detroit by early afternoon.
Another cameo, several seconds of Jake Gyllenhaal stroking his beard, was filmed in Los Angeles on Friday.
While the cast’s main goal was to have fun, Mr. Samberg said, the film has a political undertone. “No one around here,” he said, “is super fired-up about a guy who is denying the Holocaust and saying there are no homosexuals in his country.”"
Enjoy!

Andy Samberg - Is twins with Isla Fisher (or so he says)
My favorite lines from this interview:
TONY: If someone is reading our interview, why should they buy Hot Rod on DVD?
Andy Samberg: Because they want to own it?
TONY: What's it been like promoting this film all over the world? What's it been like dealing with the press?
Andy Samberg: It's been weird. It's like constantly going on dates with no chance of boning at the end. But more fun than that. A little.
From:
http://www.411mania.com/movies/columns/64499/411-Movies-Interview:--Andy-Samberg-of-Hot-Rod.htm
TONY: Since this was your first time acting in a feature film, how did you handle the pressure? Did you prepare differently?
Andy Samberg: Not really, getting to work with Kiv and Jorm made things a lot more comfortable and we're so used to shooting single-camera that it wasn't too severe of a change. We had to get up much too early though. And I ate tons of watermelon. I'd had watermelon before, but not nearly that much watermelon.
TONY: What was the transition like going from doing comedy sketches to a full length film? Did you have to slow down the process at all? What challenges did you face?
Andy Samberg: Again, since the three of us have done so much single-camera stuff both before SNL and at it that the actual creative process day-to-day wasn't so different. The main thing that was new to us was not knowing until you get to editing if this big long story is going to add up, and I think that's probably true for most people who shoot a film. It's so much stuff and often shot out of order that you kind of just have to go for it and have faith in the script and that you'll find ways to make it all work in the end. And also dealing with Kiv's fart jokes on set. That became a challenge. You'd be all involved in a scene and then there's Kiv on the megaphone like, "Hey, what do you call two rhinos farting in a swamp?!" and we're just like, "No one cares, Kiv!" and he'd be like, "Aw, c'mon, fellas! I'm Kiv!" So that was also a challenge.
TONY: What was it like having two legendary actors such as Ian McShane and Sissy Spacek as your parents in this film?
Andy Samberg: It was super effing rad. They were both amazing and they made us all feel at ease and elevated the whole movie just by showing up, and obviously by being awesome actors as well. I had pretty big crushes on both of them. But not in a weird way, I just mean sexually.
TONY: What was the actual shooting of Hot Rod like? You guys shot the film in two months. Did you have time to do a lot of takes, or was it just go, go, go?
Andy Samberg: It would really just depend on the day. Sometimes we'd have a shorter list of stuff to get and could mess around with it more, but in general we had to keep things moving.
TONY: I really enjoyed all of the music in Hot Rod. How much of a say did you have in the music? Why did you pick certain songs?
Andy Samberg: We (Kiv, Jorm and I) had all the say in picking the music. We got suggestions from our music department as well, some of which we used, like the Nutley Brass cover of "Skulls" which I love, but ultimately it was all our calls. We picked stuff in a bunch of different ways, I mean there's a lot of Europe in there and that was very much a conscious choice A) because they rule and B) because we felt like the spirit of their music, particularly on that album (final countdown) really mirrored Rod's personality and worked to show how big he thinks the things he's doing are and stuff like that. And then some stuff we just love, like Stacey Q. Oh, and John Farnham came into play via "RAD" which is Kiv and Jorm's favorite movie ever.
TONY: I really got a kick out of the Kevin Bacon/Footloose scene with you dancing. How much fun was it shooting that scene?
Andy Samberg: It was fun, but it was also the first time I've ever taken a drag off of a cigarette and I almost barfed after the 2nd take. I also realized I'm in terrible shape. It really made me realize how much coasting you do when you dance at a party. It's like 15% actual dancing, but this was like 110%. And it turns out that's way too much for me. But it was fun.
TONY: Now that you look back on Hot Rod and shooting a feature film, was it what you expected?
Andy Samberg: For the most part, yes.
TONY: How pretty is Isla Fisher in person?
Andy Samberg: That's a weird question for me to answer because during the course of shooting I found out that she's my twin sister, separated at birth. Sooo, really pretty?
TONY: I know it's hard to pick one story or one memory, but what's your most vivid memory from shooting this film?
Andy Samberg: When we wrapped Jorm came running out in a thong and popped champagne. That's gotta be up there in terms of vividness, not "goodness" necessarily, but certainly vivid. Like, burned into my eyes forever. I think it's on the DVD somewhere actually. You're welcome, Jorm!
TONY: When Hot Rod came out, the film received a lot of mixed reviews. Is that what you expect from comedy? It seems like either people get it or they don't, and you can't please everybody.
Andy Samberg: I definitely expected it. All our favorite comedies got mixed reviews. And I especially expected it because it was out first movie and people don't really know our style yet. That's something you have to earn with persistence and hard work, and we hope to do that someday. But, yeah, we didn't sweat it too much since there's such a long history of people's first movies being received weird and us loving them (The Jerk, Billy Madison, etc.).
TONY: I want to ask you a little bit about Saturday Night Live. When you're going to impersonate somebody, how do you prepare for that? What kind of research do you do?
Andy Samberg: Well, get ready to be impressed. First off, this has happened maybe twice. And it pretty much consists of looking up a few clips on youtube and watching how they act and talk. To be honest, in general if I'm doing an impression on the show it's either because I already figured out I had a funny take on it or because no one else in the cast looks more like them.
TONY: Have you heard from anyone that you have impersonated? Are they usually offended or honored?
Andy Samberg: I've never talked directly to anyone, but I heard Jack Johnson liked his. I'm still waiting to be at a party where Ken Mehlman bumrushes me from the one time I did him. That would make it all worthwhile, right? Just Mehlman in my face, like, "Whattup? I heard you were talking shit!" all Jr. High style? That would be a high point.
TONY: What's it been like promoting this film all over the world? What's it been like dealing with the press?
Andy Samberg: It's been weird. It's like constantly going on dates with no chance of boning at the end. But more fun than that. A little.
TONY: If someone is reading our interview, why should they buy Hot Rod on DVD?
Andy Samberg: Because they want to own it?
TONY: Finally, what are your plans for the future?
Andy Samberg: I'm gonna go back to it.

Andy Samberg - Is making confections
From:
http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2007/12/there-will-be-blood-premiere-andy-samberg.php
"Andy Samberg, Bill Hader, Amy Poehler, and several others all made it out to the Ziegfeld Theater Monday night in support of the upcoming release of Paul Thomas Anderson's hotly anticipated There Will Be Blood. When toothy-yet-scrumptious Andy Samberg and rubber-faced Bill Hader, sauntered by, Radar hoped for a follow up to Samberg's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad serenade or else his famously wrapped package routine. So, Andy, are you enjoying your time off from the show? "I like it if it allows me to see this movie." Boring. Well, what are you doing with all of your free time? "We're putting together a dessert shop. Bill and I are making confections."
As we pondered whether he might get Chris Parnell to join and make it a cupcake-baking, Chronicles of Narnia-watching threesome, Samberg wistfully added, "The secret ingredient is tears.""

Andy Samberg - Thinks Martin Scorsese should have done the Hot Rod DVD commentary
--------------------------------
From:
http://movies.msn.com/new-on-dvd/feature-article/?news=270423
For the past two seasons, actor/writers Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone and director/writer Akiva Schaffer -- known collectively as "The Lonely Island" -- have been responsible for some of the funniest moments on the venerable late night comedy show "Saturday Night Live." Yet it's the Internet that has given them their greatest exposure, thanks to the phenomenon of viral video. Their "SNL" video shorts "D**k in a Box" and "Lazy Sunday" and their self-produced "The 'Bu" (a parody of "The O.C." featured on their Web site) are among to most watched comedy shorts on the Internet. In anticipation of the release of "Hot Rod," their first big screen bid for success, they sat down to talk about their shorts, "Saturday Night Live," and, of course, what's in their DVD player.
What's in your DVD player?
Akiva Schaffer: I'd never seen Stallone's movie "Cobra," so I went and bought it. It's so rare for me to actually go to a store and purchase a DVD, but I just had a feeling that it was one that I'd want to own so I went to Union Square in New York and I bought the "Cobra" DVD. I was real excited that they had it. And it was pretty awesome.
It's an essential keeper?
Akiva: It delivered. Right at the beginning he gets home from work after killing a guy and takes out a pizza and he cuts it with scissors before eating it.
Jorma Taccone: Because he's just that badass.
Akiva: Yeah, he just flops the box down, flops it open, grabs a piece and *snip*.
It's that attention to detail that separates the classics from the rest.
Jorma: My answer is awesome, these guys are going to like it. I recently got married and our first dance at the wedding was based on "The Lendler," which is an Austrian folk dance. I'd never seen "The Sound of Music" so I bought a DVD to "The Sound of Music" and we used that to practice.
Andy Samberg: So that's in your DVD player?
Jorma: Yes. "The Sound of Music." Put it down. I'd never seen it. It was pretty good.
Andy: I also have "The Sound of Music" because I caught wind of Jorm's plan I decided to study it so I could properly make fun of him for the rest of his life.
Do you have any plans for a DVD release of the video shorts that have made your fame on "SNL" and the internet?
Akiva: It's not really up to us. I know that there is, and you might want to fact check this because I know this is happening but I don't know the details, but I think there is a "Best of 2006/2007" SNL DVD that's going to be sold in Starbucks that has three shorts on it. [ed. note: it's "Saturday Night Live: The Best of '06-'07," due exclusively in Starbucks August 28]
Which shorts will be on it?
Jorma: "D**k in a Box" ...
Akiva: ... "Peyton Manning for United Way," and ...
Andy: ... "The Shooting?" [an "O.C." parody]
Akiva: Yeah, the one we do with Shia LaBeouf. Some people call it "Dear Sister." We did commentary for it, didn't we?
Jorma: Yeah, we did, you're right.
Akiva: So that's a way to get some of them. In terms of a collection, I look forward to the day, but it has not been planned.
Andy: I think there's something like 40 shorts now. Maybe less.
Akiva: To make a "Best of" you want to give it enough years that people can be nostalgic for the old ones.
Andy: You have to have a body of work for there to be a "best of."
What would be your dream supplements for the DVD release of "Hot Rod"?
Akiva: I don't know but we'd better think of it. We haven't made the DVD yet so we can still rethink what's going on there.
Andy: Maybe commentary from Martin Scorsese?
Jorma: Right, commentary from someone who never involved in the film.
Akiva: We did want to have our friend Chester do a fart pass on the movie, where we have him just add fart sounds throughout the movie.
Andy: So you can choose "Director Commentary" or "Fart."
I hate to tell you this, but that's been done.
Andy: That's been done?
Jorma: Has it?
Andy: That's fantastic!
"Wet Hot American Summer" in 2002.
Jorma: It's going to be my new favorite movie. What if it was "The Sound of Music"?
Andy: Right, the Criterion version of "Sound of Music."
Jorma: [With farts] by Julie Andrews.
Andy: Which sounds weird but actually is really quite beautiful.
How does the creative process work when you, for instance, begin developing a short film for "SNL"?
Andy: All kinds of ways. Sometimes one of us will have an idea in the shower and come in and write it out and we'll help punch it up, sometimes we'll sit in a room and say, "What shall we do?" and pitch ideas, sometimes we know we want to go in a certain direction with a certain thing. Like "D**k in a Box," we knew we wanted to do an early nineties R&B song and we pitched ideas until Jorma came up with, "How about d**k in a box," and we're like, "Oh, yes, we love that." And then we all started writing it up together.
Akiva: And it just completely fluctuates.
Jorma: And it's helpful if someone is just excited about something and comes in with an idea and then we'll manipulate it to be the three of our idea.
Akiva: And sometimes, for the shorts, we don't even have an idea, we're too busy with other parts of the show, and another writer or actor on the show we'll say, "Hey, I have a thing where I do this," and then we'll go do that.
Jorma: Those are good weeks, actually.

Andy Samberg - Is allowed to steal things
From:
http://www.observer.com/2007/when-day-lewis-met-samberg-master-thespian-and-snl-stooge-collide-fancy-brasserie
"“The writers’ strike has had no visible effect on my Hanukkah,” said comedian Andy Samberg at Brasserie 8 1/2 on Monday, Dec. 10, during a party before the premiere of There Will Be Blood. He and Saturday Night Live colleagues Bill Hader, Rachel Dratch and Amy Poehler were all there in support of fellow cast member Maya Rudolph’s boyfriend, Paul Thomas Anderson, who directed the film. “My Hanukkah is par for the course. I mean, you know, lighting the candles and stealing things.”...
“That’s the rule, right? You go out and steal something every night,” Mr. Samberg continued. “If you actually get arrested for stealing something on Hanukkah, if you can prove that you’re Jewish, you are not charged for it because it’s a religious thing.”"

If you do this, I recommend a postcard. You may want to use a letter on a normal flat and thin piece of paper in a regular envelope, but even that's a risk that it won't get opened. Do NOT send a package. Make sure your envelope is light-weight, thin, and does not have any objects or bulges in it.

He's picketing.

Hot Rod - Review
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20071208.wpanel1208/BNStory/Entertainment/home?pageRequested=all
Johanna: Does it migrate to the brain? Is that how someone like Jude Law can still be surprised by paparazzi outside his door? And where did Hugh Grant get that can of beans or whatever he threw at them? Was he grocery shopping? For beans?! And while I'm at it, who was the genius who thought Andy Samberg was ready to carry a movie?? Being clever in two-minute chunks on the Web does not translate into a 90-minute feature.
Victor: Ah yes, that dim, dumb stunt-jumping flick Hot Rod. Which brings to mind the sad passing of Evel Knievel.
---------
I think that's a fair review of Hot Rod. By all acounts, Hot Rod works much better as 1 minute clips to be viewed on the Internet rather than a cohesive movie. We'll have our blog's official review later.

Fan Made Videos of The Lonely Island's Heist
Chris was a huge fan of their videos, so he suggested that they do a video rap. Thus was born the SNL Digital Short.
For the music, the boys went back to their song, The Heist. It's based on an Eminem type of white rap, and they actually did an amazing job on the song. You can hear the song here:
http://www.thelonelyisland.com/theheist.mp3
WARNING: Lots of language, but nothing too sexual.
So the boys then took some of the beat from the song, the style, and the idea of a rap telling an absurd story and went with it, making the Narnia Rap, Lazy Sunday. You'll also notice that they both start with the phone call, and they mention Sunday afternoons. (Similarly, The Bing Bong Brothers setup became the setup for the Tom Hanks testicles song.)
By the way, here's Lazy Sunday:
http://andysamberg.blogspot.com/2006/08/andy-samberg-chris-parnell-lazy-sunday.html
Anyway, they never made a video off of The Heist, featuring the voices of Jorma and Akiva. However, that hasn't stopped their legion of fans from doing it. Narnia Rap had just hit big in December, 2005, so a lot of people found this song and wanted to do their own tribute to it.
From January 13, 2006: (Paint comic strip)
From February 21, 2006: (they don't get naked)
From March 8, 2006: (they get naked and actually include a girl; this one was flagged due to a butt shot)
From June 17, 2006: (they don't get naked)
From July 29, 2006: (they got naked; they also include a long tribute/intro)
From October 27, 2006: (these guys actually got naked and they got women in it; Warning: there's a woman in a bikini dancing sexually)

Andy Samberg - His sister calls him "Droidy" (and Martha Stewart quotes)
Andy... Android... Droid... Droidy...
Huh, huh? What do you think?
Here are some quotes from the show:
Martha: It's a big break to get on saturday night live. isn't it?
Andy: Yeah, it's not bad.
Martha: I had to go to jail to get an invitation!
Martha: Are you making the stuffing this year? Which would you hate more, wet or dry [stuffing]?
Andy: Oh man, that's a loaded question. I think that too dry is worse than too wet just as a rule, right?
Andy: what is cheese cloth?
Martha: Oh, no. You need some cooking lessons!
Andy: I've never baked a pie before. Do you need me to make mac & cheese?
Martha: So what about "'little richard' in a box"? What kind of song is that? What were you making fun of?
Andy: we weren't so much making fun of as we were paying homage to early 90s r&b. Justin timberlake hosted and obviously he's got the pipes.
Martha: Oh, he does! And you won an emmy.
Andy: I did. Now i only need like 15 or 16 more to tie you.

Andy Samberg - Did it
http://www.tmz.com/2007/10/08/andy-samberg-gets-his-tmz-on/
Is comedian Andy Samberg the new Paris Hilton? Mop-topped Samberg graciously signed autographs outside of the "Saturday Night Live" after party at NYC club Compass -- and was excited by all the paparazzi attention.
"You guys TMZ-ers?" he asked the crush of waiting paps, before victoriously shouting, "I did it!" Who's a hot rod now??
He is.
-----------------
Enjoy!
They definitely offer an interesting interpretation. However, after watching the video, you'll see that he is very calm, very collected, not eager, and he merely did that as a passive joke. He seemed more like he was playing with the media rather than being excited about it.

Kirsten Dunst has dated actors and musicians. It's about time she dated an athlete. Sources say her latest conquest is professional surfer Kelly Slater (who counts Cameron Diaz and Gisele Bundchen among his exes).

Andy Samberg kisses Joanna Newsom, or maybe he's just talking near her face.
More on Joanna:
http://imdb.com/name/nm1827079/
Who knows; maybe he's just talking.
This photo was taken on November 29th at a NY Islanders hockey game.
Enjoy!
So, were they just friends? As of December, they started going out.
------------------
Here's an article where Andy mentions her:
"Though much of his schtick screams "dork alert" (it should be noted that he is a major abbreviator -- competition becomes "competish," appropriate: "approps") there is something very un-awk-weird about Samberg. And while he's ever humble -- when he found out we wanted him to actually look handsome on the cover, he was frankly shocked -- not since Jimmy Fallon has there been an SNL cast member capable of even allegedly dating Kirsten Dunst. Maybe it's because he's younger than the rest of the cast, or because he cites Joanna Newsom as one of his favorite singers and looks like the guy sitting across from you on the L train -- whatever the case, girls with tote-bags who wear leggings find him adorable."
It's from September:
http://www.papermag.com/?section=article&parid=2233
-----------------------
Andy went to her concert on November 10 (yes we're progressing through their relationship):
"· Sat Nov 10 - While sitting during the intermission at the Joanna Newsom concert, stewing in my own pseudo-hippy heaven, I got up to allow some people into my row. They were SNL's Andy Samberg and Maya Rudolph. He is an attractive hobbit; disappointed because he looks so tall on TV. She was beautiful and had a really cute sweater on and a few minutes later another guy joined them and my friend wondered when the Rivers Cuomo look was going to fade...but I think it might have actually been Rivers Cuomo."
From:
http://defamer.com/hollywood/hollywood-privacywatch/indiana-jones-and-his-girl-enjoy-a-casual-lunch-in-newport-beach-322267.php
Rivers Cuomo? Sounds like Jorma:
http://search.live.com/images/results.aspx?q=Rivers%20Cuomo&FORM=BIRE
Then that leads to the images of them hanging out at the NY Islanders game on November 29th.
Then we have confirmation that they started going out in December:
http://andysamberg.blogspot.com/2008/04/andy-samberg-is-dating-joanna-newsome.html
---------------------
Do you think the guy behind Jorma is Akiva? Is it Akiva with his lady friend, Liz Cackowski (a.k.a. Jeannie Tate)?
That guy with the glasses in front of Andy is really into the game. Check out all the photos. You can see his emotions change.
Well, it looks like Andy's interest in her music has led to a relationship with her. How do you win the heart of Andy Samberg? Weird music!!! LOL
---------------------------------------------
On April 17, we blogged a video with Andy in it, made by an NYU student, Nikki.
It takes place outside the SNL Studios and also features Will Forte.
At about 4:20 you can see Andy Samberg walking away with... Joanna Newsome! Take a look at her ears to confirm! =^)

Andy Samberg's Love Life - Natalie Portman
This is old news, and I don't think it's 100% true, but it's interesting none-the-less.
July 17th, 2007:
http://www.usmagazine.com/andy_samberg_says_hes_dating_natalie_portman
"Andy Samberg says he's seeing Natalie Portman—along with every other guest host who's graced the Saturday Night Live stage!
Comedian Samberg, 28, has been reportedly linked to actress Natalie Portman, 26, since her split with actor Gael Garcia Bernal. When asked if he'd confirm the relationship Monday at NBC's presentation at the Television Critics' Association press tour, Samberg joked, "pretty much every host that comes to the show, we all sleep with, so by that measure..."
Back in May, when we first reported on the rumored couple, Samberg's Saturday Night Live co-star Kenan Thompson told Us, "If Andy is dating Natalie, I'm extremely jealous."
After today's admission, if Andy is dating Natalie, she might be extremely jealous!"
--------------
Note to US Magazine: Kenan is not a girl.
From:
http://www.celebitchy.com/4403/natalie_portman_and_andy_samberg_going_strong/Natalie Portman and Andy Samberg met when they worked together on that famous gangster rap skit for Saturday Night Live in the spring of 2006. Then when Andy split up with Kirsten Dunst in March, he got a call from Natalie and they’ve been together ever since:
Sparks flew with Natalie Portman, 26, worked with Andy Samberg, 28, on a skit for Saturday Night Live last year. But the two cuties didn’t hook up until March, when the newly single Star Wars star called Andy to chat. Andy had ust split up with Kirsten Dunst. The next thing you know, a source tells Star, “the two became inseparable.” The couple is still going strong despite Natalie being in China for work. “The lovebirds speak every day and Andy is telling his friends that he’s totally in love,” says the source.
[From Star Magazine print edition, July 9, 2007]
US Weekly mentioned about [in June] that these two were dating after Portman split from her on-off relationship with Gael GarcĂa Bernal. It’s nice to hear that they’re still doing well as they make a cute couple.
Portman was just in Rwanda this weeked, where she named a baby mountain gorilla to help bring awareness to the cause of saving the endangered species. Rwandan president Paul Kagame held a ceremony to call for protection of mountain gorillas. Portman named her gorilla “Ahazaza,” or “future.”
-------------------
Man, I wish I could name a baby mountain gorilla to bring awareness.
- TAE
And from US Magazine:
http://www.usmagazine.com/natalie_portman_and_andy_samberg_share_more_than_laughs
Has Natalie Portman found Saturday Night Love with funnyman Andy Samberg?
A source tells Us Weekly that the 25-year-old actress is dating the Saturday Night Live star, who has also been linked with Kirsten Dunst, 25.
Portman appeared opposite Samberg, 28, in a hilarious rap video mocking her Little Miss Perfect persona when she hosted SNL in March 2006, but she didn’t begin seeing him until after she and longtime on-and-off beau Gael GarcĂa Bernal, 28, recently split.
“If Andy is dating Natalie, I’m extremely jealous,” Samberg’s castmate, Kenan Thompson, 29, tells Us.
A Portman source has equal praise: “A nice Jewish boy would be good for her.”
----------------
So all they have to do is be in skits together, then hang out, talk on the phone, and have their friends mention that it would be a good match? Then, boom, they're going out? Wow, it's so easy!!!!

Andy Samberg - Hot Rod scenes (temporary post)
11/28/07 - New addition:
Andy Samberg watches a fight.
From 11/27/07:
Bad Acid Trip Scene - When Dave takes acid in the movie Hot Rod.
Forest Dance Scene - Rod takes his anger out into the woods, then trips and falls down a ridiculously long hill.
Grilled Cheese Vs. Taco Scene - Rod held unconscious by his fall has a vision about the greatest fight of all time.
Um, that last scene was a little too lame. They just went into Dave wondering if he was having an out of body experience while everyone was concerned. It would have been better without the cheesey setup.

Andy Samberg - Is a Night Owl
August 15, 2007
Quote of the Day: Andy Samberg
From:
http://ccinsider.comedycentral.com/cc_insider/2007/08/quote-of-the--8.html
On waking up:
"At SNL, it's built for the kind of guys we are, which is sleep through the day and stay up late -- and on a movie, you're up really, really early... Really early. And for me, personally -- I know it's bad for them, but for me personally, it's really hard to wake up in the morning. And when you're shooting for daylight, which we were, you got to get up at 5 in the morning.
And I'm sure people with regular jobs are, like, 'Stop your crying.' But we intentionally geared our life to NOT HAVE TO DO THAT, and then you're like 'Finally! The big dream! A movie! And now you have to have ... a ... regular person schedule.'"

Andy Samberg - Thinks Hot Rod is a longer Lonely Island short
August 03, 2007
Hot Rod is a Little Lonely
From:
http://ccinsider.comedycentral.com/cc_insider/2007/08/hot-rod-is-a-li.html
Andy Samberg's first big movie Hot Rod is out in theaters today, and The Onion AV Club has a new interview with him. Here, he talks about the influence of Lonely Island on the flick:
AVC: Did this feel like a bigger, more expensive Lonely Island short?
AS: It definitely has that feeling to me, anyway. It certainly has a lot of the story and the comedy of Pam Brady's original script, but it's tough to put something through the three-of-us strainer and not have it come out a little Lonely. I think it's equal parts Paramount and Pam Brady—those are two separate things. As it is, we definitely have our stamp on it.
Andy Samberg - wrote Parental Guidance Suggested
"A sketch comedy movie about the joys and embarrassments of teen sex. But mostly the embarrassments"
It's directed by these guys:
Adam Jay Epstein
Andrew Jacobson
...who haven't directed anything, but they wrote Not Another Teen Movie and the 2002 MTV Music Awards alongside Will Forte. Will Forte wrote The Brothers Solomon, which he starred in with Will Arnett. Will Arnett is another writer on Parental Guidance Suggested. Except he's using the name John Solomon, his character on The Brothers Solomon. Here are the writers on Parental Guidance Suggested:
SEGMENT 1:
Adam Jay Epstein (written by) &
Andrew Jacobson (written by) and
SEGMENT 2:
Will Forte (written by) &
John Solomon (written by) and
SEGMENT 3:
Andy Samberg (written by) &
Akiva Schaffer (written by) &
Jorma Taccone (written by) and
SEGMENT 4:
Erica Rivinoja (written by) and
SEGMENT 5:
Phil Lord (written by) &
Chris Miller (written by)
And, of course Will Forte is working with Andy Samberg on Saturday Night Live. Thus, we come full circle.
I can't wait to see the dudes' segment!

Frankie Muniz ... Chuck
Jamie Kennedy ... Mateus

Fred Armisen remembers the Shia LeBeouf episode
Fred Armisen mentions Andy's skits in his blog.
Here's the blog:
http://blog.nbc.com/fred/2007/08/shia_lebeoufavril_lavigne.php
"For the "Sofa King" sketch, we had to be careful with how we said those words. With the way it was sounding during rehearsals I thought for sure we weren't going to get to do it for the live show. Uni-brows are always funny to me btw...
"We shot the "Dear Sister" digital short really really late on a Friday night. Me and Jason did our part at like two in the morning. It was at this hotel a few blocks down from the studio. We walked down the street dressed as cops and pretty much looked like two comedians dressed up as cops. Our dressing room was one of the rooms at the hotel. As soon as we got there we started joking around but were immediately told "shshsh! People are sleeping!" It's so funny to me that that's still a part of my life. Being told to shush. I remember Jorma trying to explain the video idea to me. He was saying "there's this thing that they did on the finale of the O.C., and they play this song and well...you just have to see it." When I finally saw it, it killed me. That song! And Shia's line.. "You guys I just thought of the funniest thing". Who says that? Also putting on that cop uniform made me realize what a terrible cop I would make. I can't deal with confrontation and I know that if I was questioning a criminal, I would take whatever they said at face value, just to get out of there. "Oh okay. You were visiting your cousin but you don't know his name? Sounds good to me, thank you.""

Andy Samberg - Made NBC Hate YouTube
"Perhaps no company has had more of a love-hate affair with YouTube than NBC. On practically a weekly basis over the past year or so it seems like NBC's official position on YouTube switches back and forth.
"First, they hated YouTube because the SNL Andy Samberg video "Lazy Sunday" was widely available on it, requiring NBC's lawyers to demand it get taken down. This seemed odd to us, as it was a great promotional vehicle for Saturday Night Live. And, in fact, for a little while, it seemed that NBC agreed, as they set up an official NBC channel on YouTube where they released lots of content, including newer Samberg videos.
"NBC execs started to talk about how great YouTube was for promotional purposes and some even hoped that NBC would put more content on YouTube. Of course, then Jeff Zucker took over, and one of his first public statements involved slamming YouTube even as his executives were talking about how useful a tool it was. NBC soon filed an amicus brief against YouTube in a lawsuit against the company and, more recently, have been speaking out against the company. Perhaps this isn't too surprising, as the company has teamed up with News Corp in a weak attempt to create its own online video property.
"So, with that flip-flopping in mind, it should come as little surprise that NBC has now completely shut down its official channel on YouTube according to Valleywag. This is pretty weak, though, as many people who enjoyed getting NBC content that way now have had that rug pulled out from under them. NBC still seems to be under the entirely wrong belief that people will come to them. People want to get content however it's convenient. That means offering it in a variety of places and a variety of formats so that people are more likely to view the content. Taking away options doesn't help things, it just pisses off more fans."
The article:
http://techdirt.com/articles/20071021/135730.shtml
Enjoy!
I wonder if this means NBC is going to crack down on trying to get their content off of YouTube again. However, if they're already suing YouTube, then YouTube may not care if NBC is asking them to take down content. I wonder how that's going to work out.

Andy Samberg - Sees Kirsten Dunst in an Interview
I like how this interview describes everybody by what they're wearing. That's pretty unique. Read up, cuz this is all good stuff: Andy Samberg's history, present, and future. And, yes, Kirsten Dunst walks in. He's definitely just friends with her.
This was published September 28, 2007.

"Awk-weird," Andy Samberg blurts out in a voice that's just a bit too loud. Kirsten Dunst, his Ray-Ban-wearing alleged former fling, has unexpectedly walked into Sant Ambroeus, the West Village bistro where Samberg and I are meeting. A little while later, he looks at me and says, ambivalently: "I probably should go up and say hi -- that's what people do, right?"
While the word "Muppet" is often invoked when referring to Samberg, he's actually more of a Fraggle. His mouth is extremely wide in proportion to the rest of his face and his hair (probably his most defining feature), which starts as a recently-showered mess, morphs slowly and steadily into a tall pile of straight-up Jewfro by the end of our lunch.
The 29-year-old Saturday Night Live newbie turned movie star is as goofy as they come -- this is a man, after all, who first appeared and then solidified himself within the American consciousness by creating a hardcore rap about Magnolia cupcakes and, subsequently, for sticking his dick in a box. Despite (or more likely because of) his proclivity for making crass and ridiculous jokes about replacing peg legs on pirates with his dong, he's rapidly become both a part of and a challenge to the mainstream comedy world.
His extreme silliness often gets him compared to a young Adam Sandler (I think also, partly, because their names sound so similar), but, says SNL creator Lorne Michaels, "I don't really see that." He continues, "to put it this way, I didn't have a déjà vu moment when I first saw Andy Samberg."
Though much of his schtick screams "dork alert" (it should be noted that he is a major abbreviator -- competition becomes "competish," appropriate: "approps") there is something very un-awk-weird about Samberg. And while he's ever humble -- when he found out we wanted him to actually look handsome on the cover, he was frankly shocked -- not since Jimmy Fallon has there been an SNL cast member capable of even allegedly dating Kirsten Dunst. Maybe it's because he's younger than the rest of the cast, or because he cites Joanna Newsom as one of his favorite singers and looks like the guy sitting across from you on the L train -- whatever the case, girls with tote-bags who wear leggings find him adorable.
Andy wears a customized T-shirt and wristband by American Apparel and tights by Running Funky. Cape, shorts, rollerskates and socks from Austins Wardrobe.
Born and raised in Berkeley, California, the son of a photographer father and schoolteacher mother, Samberg had a relatively normal upbringing. He devoted much of his early years to goofing around and trying to make his two older sisters laugh, and at around the age of eight, came to the conclusion while watching I Love Lucy reruns, Mel Brooks movies and, of course, Saturday Night Live episodes, that he would like to be a comedian. In the seventh grade, when he saw Jim Carrey on In Living Color, he realized he could make a career of it. "Carrey's way of being funny was so nailing what I liked. Seeing that dude, it felt like until that point, I was waiting for someone who was really funny in a way that represented me. For me, it was Jim Carrey rolled into that Sandler-Farley thing that was like, ohhhhh my God."
It was during high school that Samberg first started hanging with two like-minded fellows, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer. Post-college (Samberg attended Tisch in New York while Taccone and Schaffer stayed in California), the three buddies re-teamed in L.A. and pursued low-level Hollywood jobs while making comedy on their own. In 2001 the trio launched thelonelyisland.com, a skyscraper in the pre-YouTube desert, to showcase their comedic talents in the form of digital videos. Many of the clips -- a two-episode-long sitcom, Lonely Island, an O.C. satire called The 'Bu and music videos (be sure to check out "Stork Patrol") -- were inane and well-executed forebears of their future work. The boys got a gig writing jokes for the MTV Movie Awards in 2005 and Jimmy Fallon, that year's host, liked what he saw. Fallon hooked them up with an SNL audition and very serendipitously, all three were hired -- Taccone and Schaffer as writers; Samberg as a member of the cast.
One Saturday night in mid-December of 2005, I was watching SNL when Samberg appeared onscreen alongside fellow cast member Chris Parnell in a so-called "SNL Digital Short." The ensuing rap about two dudes going to see the Chronic -- WHAT? -- cles of Narnia on a "Lazy Sunday" in the middle of winter, while consulting Google Maps and loading up on cupcakes beforehand, was a piece of comedic genius. The next morning I found the video on YouTube and forwarded it to everyone I knew. Apparently, so did a lot of other people.
In the wake of the ensuing hysteria surrounding their video (over one million views on YouTube the day after it aired, a New York Times write-up, "Mr. Pibb + Red Vines = Crazy Delicious" T-shirts for sale on eBay, an appearance on Letterman), it was obvious that we had a comedy revolution on our hands, with the Lonely Island crew (Samberg as its mascot) somehow at the forefront. But it was unclear what was going to happen next.
For a while there, following the short, the Samberg hype sort of died down. There was the Natalie Portman rap ("I don't sleep motherf**ker off that yak and that durbin'/ Doin' 120, getting head while I'm swervin'), which had people talking, but not much more. The guys chugged along, regularly churning out the Digital Shorts and showcasing their offbeat man-child ways. Among their shorts, it should be noted, are the two very unsung "Laser Cats" and "Laser Cats II," which star Samberg and castmate Bill Hader as Admiral Spaceship and Nitro, who try to save the world while arming themselves with cats who shoot lasers out of their mouths. Aesthetically, the videos look like a drunken teenager made them. While "LC" and "LCII," according to Samberg, "are the cool Brooklyn of Digital Shorts -- I'll probably be hanged later for saying that," they and their brethren ("Lettuce," "Roy Rules") did not quite take off like "Lazy Sunday."
"I think 'Dick in a Box' really took the pressure off a lot. And by pressure I mean took the pressure off our balls. It really lifted the dick up," Samberg jokes, before getting serious: "And the video 'Dick in a Box' with Justin Timberlake took the pressure off more figuratively. After 'Lazy Sunday,' I was like, 'This is going to be the only thing anyone is ever going to want to talk to me about for the rest of my life.' I mean, I was really happy that we had something that people connected with, but you don't want to be the band that always has people talking about their first album. After 'Dick in a Box,' we were like, 'Ahhh, now we have two things we can talk about.' And then after Hot Rod it was three."
Very soon after the success of "Lazy Sunday," Samberg, Taccone and Schaffer, still numb from the aftermath, were approached by Paramount and Lorne Michaels to make Hot Rod, a film originally developed for Will Ferrell. Though the parameters were not ideal -- they would work from a script already written and get the film made quickly during the summer hiatus from SNL -- the boys jumped on it. "If you wanted to do comedy your whole life and then one day Lorne Michaels says you can make a feature movie to star in with your buddy directing and your other buddy co-starring from a script that you like -- you don't say no," Samberg says. "And I still think we made the right call -- the movie is really weird."
Depending on whom you talk to, Hot Rod is either a terrible stinker or a really strange and wonderful movie that you can't believe they got away with making. Samberg, not surprisingly, is of the second camp. Most critics, alas, were of the first. The film, which follows hapless stuntman Rod Kimble (Samberg), as he prepares to jump his motorcycle over 15 buses to win $50,000 and pay for his stepfather's heart surgery so he can beat the crap out of him, is certainly nontraditional. It's full of non sequiturs, inexplicable asides and random '80s film references. Each time Rod gets ready for a big jump, he summons the "totem spirits" -- an eagle, a bottle-nosed dolphin, a housecat and a fox -- which appear onscreen, floating beside his head. On the way to a date, Samberg rides his bike, singing, "Ohhh, when you're going on a date you put on a shirt/ and you ride your bike to the date." A joyous parade leading up to Rod's big jump for no reason at all turns into a violent riot. After mastering a pommel horse routine in the woods in a Footloose-reminiscent dance number, Samberg tumbles down a hill in what is quite possibly the longest and most absurd fall scene in film history. None of it really makes any sense, which is what makes it so brilliant. It's a cutting-edge comedic revolution wrapped in a poop joke.
"A lot of people don't like a movie that stops making sense -- it's human instinct. When a movie goes off on tangents and is stupid for stupid's sake, that's not appealing to them, because they want to feel like they're invested in something," Samberg says, adding, "I've never been that way."
The film's less-than-magnificent reception appears to have neither Samberg nor Michaels particularly concerned. "I've lived through everything from Wayne's World with Mike and Dana to Tommy Boy with Chris Farley, all the things I did with Ferrell, and even Three Amigos," Michaels says. "Critics just don't like new comedians, and they certainly don't like them if they come from SNL or television. Later on, they revise their opinions and say that so-and-so's later films aren't as good as the first ones. I think the picture will be thought of differently in two years."
Samberg adds, "The movies I've always liked, comedy-wise -- Billy Madison, The Jerk -- always got terrible reviews. When our reviews came in, it was like, 'Oh, we're right on track.'"
Whether Hot Rod goes on to cult film heaven or winds up in the $5.99 bin at Duane Reade, for now all Samberg's doing is getting excited about his upcoming CG-animated film Space Chimps ("I love monkeys and I love space -- it was an easy pitch"), the Emmys ("Dick in a Box" was nominated for "Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics") and going back to SNL in the fall. It's been said that the new season is going to be a lot more Samberg-focused than before, but, Samberg counters, "There's no predetermined anything on that show." He's just happy to be part of the revered institution. "Even though I've had a lot of good stuff happen to me, I'm still so new on the show. I mean, I just got there. The magic hasn't worn off on me -- I love getting to sit in on meetings and see how the show works. I'm not numb to it at all."
In the more immediate future, Samberg has decided he is, in fact, going to head over to Ms. Dunst's table. Once our food is cleared, he gets up, runs his hand through his hair and replaces his plastic-rimmed glasses with a pair of retro shades. "Yeah," he says, "they're prescription."
