What cast changes would you like to see for next season on SNL?

So Faith prompted a good discussion, which is what her wish list would be for cast changes on SNL this upcoming season...

The people on the cast of SNL are I think almost the same. Andy's staying. I think a black female will be introduced.

- Abby Elliott

- Bill Hader

- Seth Meyers

- Nasim Pedrad

- Andy Samberg

- Jason Sudeikis

- Kenan Thompson

Featuring

- New Cast Member to Play Obama

- New White Guy

- New Female Cast Member

===================

So Kristen already said she'd come back, and we know Bobby wouldn't miss it. Plus I don't know why Fred would leave. Will Forte is also missing from this list.

Basically, my best guess is that Fred, Will, or Kenan would be the next to go (and I'd be fine seeing them all go, although I have to admit that each has some hilarious bits).

This is what I'd miss from them...

Fred Armisen: His Surface Map bit he did on Weekend Update a few years back was hilarious. His Governor Patterson makes me laugh every time, and his Native American comedian (Billy Smith) is amazing. Nicholas Fehn proves that he's got skills. His Garth and Kat bit is amusing, but even then I'm laughing at Kristen and Seth. Most of the other times I'm just not laughing at his jokes, including his Obama (it's more the writing that's funny than the performance), Telemundo stuff, Elinda Node (court stenographer), and Roger Brush (producer that takes over talk shows). The dude has 77 impressions, but none of them are memorable to me. After 8 years, he could probably go soon.

Will Forte: It's his Weekend Update songs that I'd miss, but he doesn't do them very often. I like his dancing coach bit, and MacGruber is always amusing. I think the MacGruber movie bomb is juat a perfect example that his humor is just a little too weird for people to connect to him (as well as his Brothers Solomon bomb). His Bon Jovi bit is amusing, but really his Carl (annoying Office guy), Clancy T, Greg Stink, and Tim Calhoun just further show that his comedy is more "weird" than "funny." His Goerge Bush wasn't much of an impression, and it got replaced by Jason (and Will Ferrell guest appearing) there at the end. I'm surprised that they kept him around for 8 years, with him not touching bases with his audience, but there are occasionally strokes of genius like his Megan Fox digital short where he was socially awkward and dumped her and his Chips skit where Jason Sudeikis played like a Colonel Sanders engineer. Will has also been around for 8 years and could probably go soon.

Kenan Thompson: He pretty much saved himself with Diondre Cole's "What Up With That?" this past season. His DJ Dynasty Handbag, Grady Wilson, Jean K Jean, Lorenzo MacIntosh, Oscar Rogers (Fix It), and Virginiaca Hastings walk the line between mildly amusing and "make the pain stop!" I love his Bill Cosby and Whoopi Goldberg, but most of his other 64 impressions are just him.

But with Kenan as the only black member, Fred doing most all the cold openings, Will playing a lot of the straight guy and every-man characters, and the fact that none of them have other options to go to, it might be awhile longer before they leave. Plus it doesn't look like Lorne has a bunch of hot shot young actors to bring in and mix it up, like he did in 2005 with Kristen, Andy, Jason, and Bill (which would mean more of a reason to phase out the older actors).

Other thoughts:

- I agree that they could get another black actor or actress on the show.

- I agree that another Obama impressionist would be good (AlphaCat is the most famous and Obama's personal favorite).

- I don't think they will or should lose Bobby or Kristen (or Abby or Andy, for that matter).

- I'm on the line about Jenny Slate. Her commercials are funny, but she still hasn't proven herself. However, I think Nasim Pedrad is the next Cheri Oteri, so they should definitely keep her.

- I would like to see more new blood (new actors), because Bill and Jason are also starting to run out of jokes and steam.

- Of the non-featured players, I think only Andy Samberg and Kristen Wiig still have momentum and steam in their characters and digital shorts.

- Seth Meyers should stay, of course. He's becoming a cultural icon.

Andy Samberg likes the Parks and Rec theme song

“I mean I mainly love Parks and Rec because of the theme song. Um… not really… a fan of the cast. Not… Poehler… not really my style. Aziz… very unfunny. Um… who else… Rashida… blegh. So… but the theme song! Is really good.” — Andy talking about why he loves Parks and Recreation.

So of course this is ironic because Andy guested on the show, he starred with Rashida in I Love You Man and used her in a few vids to promote the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, and he worked with Amy Poehler on SNL and did Ariel & Efrim, Palin Rap, and Young Chuck Norris with her (not to mention appearing on the Parks show, which she probably invited him to do). And he's friends with Aziz (appearing on his Human Giant show) and Aubrey Plaza (they haven't done much together, but he was seen walking with her arm in arm a few years back, and she interned on SNL his first year there).

Does Andy Samberg look like Robbie from Victorious?

Robbie Shapiro

Robbie is a shy and awkward student at Hollywood Arts, so it makes sense that he is more comfortable speaking through a "dummy." Robbie is a master ventriloquist and Rex is his alter-ego his and very hip companion.

The actor is MATT BENNETT: Matt's acting education began with the Long Island-based "Way Off Broadway" acting company. He first performed, alongside Carly Simon, with "The Yard", an acclaimed artists colony in Martha's Vineyard. He continued studying acting with the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York and soon began working in voiceover and commercials. Most recently, he guest starred in the premiere of Comedy Central's "Michael & Michael Have Issues." He also co-wrote and starred in the short film, "Text Me," for which he also composed and performed the original music.

I loves me some mini-Samberg <3 (Matt Bennett)

Favorable review of Andy Samberg's latest digital short

Here's a review from a journalist:

Andy Samberg’s “Great Day” digital short (video below) was one of his best of the season.

...

But it’s never much fun to join the chorus of voices critiquing the show that just aired; I’d much rather list the changes I’d like to see made for next season:

• Fire Jenny Slate. Then push her into traffic.
• Hire a black female cast member.
• No sketches longer than five minutes. It’s unrealistic to expect every skit to be a winner, but a dud that goes on for six minutes is inexcusable.
• Outsource more decisions to Facebook. Even though we’re an overly critical rabble, the Internet has a better feel for what makes “SNL” good than Lorne Michaels does these days.
• Seriously, Jenny Slate has to go.

Andy Samberg's Paul the Octopus helps bring in the ESPY ratings!

Well, Seth and Will Ferrell helped too...

The Saturday Night Live-flavored ESPY Awards, hosted by Seth Meyers and featuring current SNL cast member Andy Samberg and alum Will Ferrell, averaged 2.6 million viewers from 9-11:30 PM last night. The awards' 18-49 audience was 1.7 million, which is up 30% from last year, when the ESPYs ran on Sunday.

Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd also helped:

Is Andy Samberg back on in Space Chimps 2?

Wikipedia thinks so:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Chimps_2

Cast

Andy Samberg - Ham III

Cheryl Hines - Luna

Patrick Warburton - Titan

Zack Shada - Comet

Stanley Tucci - Senator

Laura Bailey - Kilowatt

The discrepency is that Andy's voice doesn't seem to be used in the trailer or the UK release:

So my best guess is either Wikipedia is wrong or they are redubbing Andy's voice over for the U.S. release (which would also explain why they haven't released it in the U.S. yet), seeing how IMDB last thought it would be released in June in the U.S.

IMDB doesn't list out all the official cast yet.

Also, the film was already released in the UK:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1537481/business

Interestingly, this is the first directing effort by John H Williams, a successful animated film producer who started Vanguard Animation (the studio that made Space Chimps, Valiant, and Happily N'ever After). In addition to producing all his studio's animated films, he also produced all four Shrek films. I guess that means DreamWorks kept inviting him back and never saw his other animated films as an actual threat. =^)

Andy Samberg is not going out with Rachel Bilson

Recent rumours that actress Rachel Bilson has been seeing Saturday Night Live performer Andy Samberg are not true, according to reports.

The OC star, 28, was rumoured to be “getting close” to Samberg, 31, with reports claiming that the pair were having fun hanging out together.

A US magazine also claimed that Samberg had split from his musician girlfriend Joanna Newsom.

But a rep for Samberg told GossipCop.com that he is still with Newsom and is not romantically involved with Bilson.

What I say to the Andy Samberg haters

So every once in awhile, we run into Andy Samberg haters over here. Don't they know better than to post their hateful comments on an Andy Samberg-devoted site?

Here's the latest. This one's from "The Great":

What I really love about Andy Samberg are the following things: 1) He is the best microcosm and incarnation of the result of the dumbing down of the American public.

2) He will die someday. I hope before he physically dies, that his comedy career dies much sooner.

3) That at best he will wind up like Chevy Chase, only sooner, the major difference being that Chevy Chase was once actually very funny, unlike Andy Samberg.

Dear "The Great,"

(1) At least Andy Samberg doesn't call himself "Great," because man, that would be annoying!

(2) Do you have an example of your comedy that we might compare it to Chevy Chase and Andy Samberg's work?

(3) I agree that Chevy Chase was brilliant (watch Fletch, Fletch Lives, and Caddyshack). I also think that Chevy Chase ran out of jokes and his last funny film was Christmas Vacation. This is common with comedians. Most people don't know how biting and cutting edge Dan Aykroyd and Steve Martin (watch The Jerk) once were. And if you haven't seen Bob Hopes' Pale Face, Son of Pale Face, and Road to... films, then you aren't a fully trained student of comedy.

(4) I freely admit that Andy hasn't yet done a movie that has clearly set him as a hilarious comedian.

(5) Have you seen all of Andy's Digital Shorts? On the Ground, In a Box, Mother Lover, Ji** in My Pants, I'm On a Boat, Iran So Far, Young Chuck Norris, Natalie Raps, Lazy Sunday, Like a Boss, and Ariel & Efrim? Until you see each and every one of those, you cannot say that Andy isn't funny, because you do not know.

(6) Andy has over 100 million views on YouTube, and he put YouTube and NBC Videos and Hulu on the map. Andy's first CD is a huge hit. In other words, the world disagrees with you. You are entitled to your opinion, but you are the anomaly.

Andy Samberg - with Jeremy Piven at "It's Easy Being Green"

Andy Samberg moderates an eco debate in LA.

Andy Samberg and Jeremy Piven were all smiles at "The Darker Side Of Green" eco debate hosted by the "SNL" funnyman at Palihouse Holloway in West Hollywood Thursday night (7/8/10).

Andy Samberg - Interview about his Emmy nomination

Andy Samberg has Bill Clinton on his wish list for SNL digital short collaborators, which may not be too high of a hope now that he is nominated for another Emmy. He also talks about his fellow nominees as Sophia Bush celebrates her birthday in green style.

In other SNL nomination news, Kristen Wiig gets nominated again as supporting actress, and Betty White and Tina Fey were nominated for guest actress (Tina's third SNL nomination after leaving the show, and she's had one win; she was never nominated on the show). SNL was also nominated for its Comedy Series category, and it was nominated for the special, "Saturday Night Live In The 2000s: Time And
Again." (Plus lighting, makeup, writing, and technical direction. So Jorma and Akiva get writing nominations again.)

Once again, Andy was the only SNL dude-actor nominated. This just goes to show SNL's progress in female comedy. Another sign of that is that three of the Comedy Lead Acresses were from SNL... Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Not sure why "On the Ground" wasn't nominated, but I suppose it wasn't the best song musically (similar to everything out there), and it wasn't the best song lyrically (doesn't even rhyme, and isn't super creative or artsy). Plus I'm On a Boat and Ji#* In my Pants weren't nominated last year (only Mother Lover was), so just cuz a song is popular or well liked doesn't mean the Emmy judges prefer it.

Thanks to Rachel for the scoop!

By the way, that Shy Ronnie album cover is fan made; there's no Shy Ronnie album.

Andy Samberg - does a Lexus event

Andy is moderating this event in LA tomorrow...

During the 2010 New York Auto Show, Lexus hosted a debate to hype its new hybrid, the CT 200h. Dubbed "The Darker Side of Green", the face-off featured eco-tech enthusiast Amanda Little, global-warming denier Phelim McAleer, and moderator Sarah Silverman.

[Editor: Hmm. They seemed to have selected a young, attractive woman to debate against an older overweight man...]

But by most accounts, the debate went well. Silverman was stellar, and the event drew a goodly number of hipster trendsetters -- a major demographic for luxury hybrid cars. All of which probably explains why Lexus is adding more debates to the list, moderated by comedians Andy Samberg, Tracy Morgan, and Jamie Kennedy.

As weird as this promotion may sound, it's actually a safe bet for Lexus -- mostly because the outcome of the debates is a foregone conclusion. As a high-profile hybrid vehicle, any event centered around the CT 200h is going to draw a predominantly eco-minded crowd that'll be rooting for the green side. And just to give those progressives an enemy to boo, the debators that Lexus has put on the anti-green side are all older, white men (except for Steve Everley, who's a younger white man). Worse, they're all billed as climate-change deniers, which in 2010 is only about two steps shy of being Holocaust-deniers...

Hahahaha. Those guys should know better than to attend a lion's den of green enthusiasts. The choice of these comedians is no better. Andy might be more gracious than Sarah, Tracy, and Jamie, but he definitely is on the green side, along with all the others (although Jamie might just not care and make fun of everyone).

Unfortunately, Andy's doing the same thing he does every year. He waits to see if corporations and film-makers offer him gigs. The only projects he seems to put together are ones led mostly by Akiva from TLI.

Put together a movie or another record, Andy!

?uestlove gets Joanna Newsom on his record - Andy Samberg the matchmaker?

So in some bizarre way, Andy Samberg is sort of the matchmaker to get his girlfriend, Joanna Newsom on ?uesstlove's record. Check it out...

Roots drummer, producer and musical director Amir "?uestlove" Thompson is an inveterate multitasker...

As the house band on 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,' the Roots have found themselves working with everyone from Paul Simon to Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain. The band's new release, 'How I Got Over,' features the kind of musicians you'd expect to find on indie-loving blogs, not a hip-hop album...

Singer/harpist Joanna Newsom delivers the hook on 'Right On.'

As ?uestlove tells Spinner, their presence on the album "wasn't manipulative, ... It just so happened that they all were on the show." It also turns out the Roots work their Fallon day-jobs in the same building as Newsom's boyfriend, 'Saturday Night Live' star Andy Samberg. "She's always around," ?uestlove says. "I met them at a Dirty Projectors concert. I saw the Dirty Projectors for the first time [on the Fallon Show], became a massive fan and then put that video clip of them in my dressing room singing on the net. They said, 'Come to our show next week.' I went, and then I met Joanna Newsom and Andy there and it's like, 'Oh, be on our record.'"

Tom Cruise and Azazi can't beat Andy Samberg and Eminem

Despite including appearances by much of the cast from the night's big winner -- "Twilight: New Moon" -- and the much-hyped debuts of trailers for the latest installments of both the "Twilight" and "Harry Potter" film franchises, ratings for Sunday's MTV Movie Awards were off from last year.

On [MTV], viewership was off by a lot, dropping from 5.3 million to 4.6 million...

Last year's awardscast, hosted by "Saturday Night Live" star Andy Samberg, was notable for the staged meeting between Sacha Baron Cohen's butt and Eminem's face, which prompted a walkout by the latter. Each had a project to promote -- the actor's new movie, "Bruno," and the rapper's latest disc, "Relapse" -- and the resulting controversy spiked interest in them.

This year, Tom Cruise of the upcoming flick "Knight and Day" hoped for a boost by appearing throughout the awards in a running gag reprising his "Tropic Thunder" character Les Grossman. He opened the show, was featured in promos with "Twilight" stars Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, and did a dance-off with Jennifer Lopez.

Host Aziz Ansari ("Parks and Recreation") presided over a two-hour telecast that featured upward of 100 profanities...
