Two short stories about Andy Samberg

How I met Andy Samberg
by Leslie Pantalones

At the POTC2 premiere at Disneyland. After the success of Lazy Sunday, I thought it would be great if he signed my Narnia DVD. He did and wrote “not in movie”. Funny guy.

A story about Andy Samberg
by Paul

I met him on the set of “Hot Rod”. He didn’t really talk to me much but had a really good connection with his bud Jorma; joke after joke. He was very much what you’d expect him to be like…

Andy Samberg - Laying down on the job (photo)

This is a classic photo from 2006, Andy's first season.

It includes Andy Samberg, Bill Hader, and Jason Sudeikis. The article was about these boys because it was their first season so they were all newbies together.

Andy Samberg - Is Dustin Diamond (pictures)

Andy Samberg played Dustin Diamond on 9/30/06, the episode hosted by Brian Williams.

There was only one other time that SNL parodied Dustin Diamond. That was by Toby Maguire on 4/15/2000. Toby arguably did a better job.

I started a new category called "SNL Impressions." Let's follow Andy's Impressions!

Tom Hanks & Andy Samberg - Testicles Song (Ariel & Efrim)

12/1/08 Update: New video

----------------------------

1/4/08 Update: This was our first post on this site, from 8/3/06. We updated this post with the lyrics. Enjoy!

----------------------------

Here we journey back to 1991 to enjoy the strange clothes, weird hair, huge boomboxes, and most importantly, the bizarre music.

Tom Hanks joins The Lonely Island dudes Andy Samberg, Jorm, and Akiva (directing). They are also joined by almost the entire cast of Saturday Night Live. Lorne has come to realize that The Lonely Island is pure gold, and they should use their entire cast to play extras and background for their music videos (which hasn't happened in SNL history until now).

This song is mostly about how Tom and Andy would greatly appreciate it if you didn't chop off their testicles, smash their testicles, or, really, do anything to their testicles. Tom is a little wooden here (possibly on purpose), but Andy knocks one out of the park with his hilarious facial expressions and perfect vocal inflections. Enjoy!

http://media.putfile.com/Testicles

For those who don't know who The Lonely Island is, they are three budding comedians who did online short films on TheLonelyIsland.com, they did a hit show, The Bu', on Channel101.com, they started writing for MTV awards shows, they met Jimmy Falon, got introduced to Lorne, they were hired onto SNL, and they did Lazy Sunday, the Chronicles of Narnia rap.

Andy is a Saturday Night Live playa', Jorm is an SNL writer/producer, and Akiva is an SNL writer/director. Andy got the spotlight (and the other two didn't) because he was extra busy working the comedy clubs, which is pretty much the training ground for SNL actors. However, all three will hit the spotlight soon as they star in their first movie. Plus, Lorne would have to be crazy to not pull Jorma into the playa's club after their first season!

Enjoy!

Lyrics:

Morning in the kitchen
You're frying an egg
I'm squeezing some oranges
The room is getting hot

Over at the counter
I shake the salt
You take out a knife
Please don't cut my testicles

Please don't cut my testicles
Please don't cut my testicles
Don't cut my testicles
It's a nice day, relax

Oh Efrim, you're sexy
Right back at you, baby!
Oh Efrim, you're handsome
I'm serious about my testicles

At the post office
Standing in line
You wrap my package
I lick the stamp

Put it in the slot
Then close the door
But please don't slam it
On my testicles

Don't slam my testicles
Please don't slam my testicles
Don't slam my testicles
It's a free country have fun!

Ariel, you worry
I do, I worry oh-ften (often)
Oh Efrim, come with me
Did i mention i was gay?

Don't burn off our testicles
Don't burn off our testicles
Please don't burn my testicles

Does Andy Samberg use Pheromones?

So Andy Samberg bagged a pretty elf, Joanna Newsom:

He flirted with and hung out with Natalie Portman:

He made out with Drew Barrymore:

He dated Kirsten Dunst:

And he made out with and flirted with Scarlett Johansson:

So...

Is Andy Samberg using pheromones????

Let's dig deep to see what the symptoms would be. We'll head to one of the top pheromone sites on the Web to investigate...

Home of human pheromones:

They've got pheromones for men to use to attract women:

And they've got pheromones for women to use to attract men:
http://www.best-pheromones.com/women_home.html

Have you guys checked out the new studies on Pheromones?

Even if Andy doesn't use pheromones, I think some of us guys are going to have to start using them in order to compete with the likes of Andy Samberg. =^)

PHEROMONE COLOGNE INCREASES SEXUAL ACTIVITY

Seattle--Topical application of synthesized male pheromones increases the sexual attractiveness of men to their partners, according to Pennsylvania researchers.

The odorless, clear alcohol-based liquid contains a chemical copy of "the natural substance given off by healthy virile men in their 20s that makes them so attractive to women," said researcher Winnifred Cutler, Ph.D., president of the Athena Institute for Women's Wellness in Haverford, PA.

In a study of 38 men, those who added the new pheromone to their own aftershave for eight weeks reported that they were busier sexually--engaging in significantly more hugging, kissing and sexual intercourse with their female partners--than before the study, the Pennsylvania researcher reported at the annual meeting of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.

Masturbation rates in the two groups were similar, indicating that the product works by attracting women, not by increasing a man's sex drive.

In the new study, 38 men added a few drops of either the pheromone-alcohol solution or alcohol alone to their usual aftershave for eight weeks.

None of the men knew what they were getting; they were told only that they "were testing a product designed to improve the romance in their lives," .

The men all kept a diary of their sexual activities, which were compared with their sex lives before the study began.

Eight weeks later, 47% of the men using the pheromone reported that they engaged in more sexual intercourse since using the cologne, compared with 9.5% of the placebo users.

Thirty-five percent of pheromone users reported they slept with women more often, compared with 5% of placebo users.

Check out the site for a ton of more articles in case you want to learn more about pheromones.

So what do you think? Do you think Andy's humor gets him the ladies or is he using pheromones? =^)

Andy Samberg - A breakout star of 2007

29-year-old "Saturday Night Live" cast member Andy Samberg won audiences over with his recurring characters such as T Shane, Blizzard Man, and The Out-of-Breath Jogger. It wasn't until his Emmy win, however, that his name became synonymous with a skit's song, based on an organ-filled package, that he performed alongside Justin Timberlake.

Andy Samberg - Is Young Chuck Norris

Updated 7/1/08: Added the imbedded Hulu video. Originally posted on 8/4/06.

------------------------

This is a hilarious Saturday Night Live Music Video about Young Chuck Norris.

Andy Samberg has rocketed into fame, taking Chris Parnell along with him. Andy's been working for awhile at gaining this fame, as have the other two members of their Lonely Island Dudes.

Here is the Lonely Island website.

The sad thing is that Jorm seems to be the twisted brains of the bunch. He seems to take the most twisted roles in their videos, which implies that he is writing his roles. However, Andy did his time on the comedy club circuit, and so Andy gets to be a featured player while the other two are SNL staff writers. Mark my words, Jorma will become a featured player in a year or two, and then we will be laughing at the ugly guy instead of the pretty one. In the meantime, Jorm, Akiva, and Andy are going to make Andy look really good.

While their humor is hit and miss, the Lonely Island Dudes seem to have found their niche with Saturday Night Live. The SNL environment has helped them find the best humor that lurks inside them. And that brings me to their newest hit video for SNL, "The Young Churck Norris."

This was written by the Lonely Island Dudes. Most people will agree that this is not better than the Narnia Rap. However, some (including my friend Travis), like this one better. To fully appreciate it you have to have been a fan of Chuck Norris at one point in your life.

Otherwise, you'll still think it's funny:

"Kung-fu grip. Mustached lip."

Some people think Chuck Norris has a girlie punch:

Andy Samberg - Used to play Tecmo Bowl & Mike Tyson's Punch Out!!!

Here's an older interview that reveals some nice tidbits about Andy and the dudes...

Viral Vidiots

Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, & Jorma Taccone
The Lonely Island and Saturday Night Live

With a name like the Lonely Island, you’d think these guys would keep to themselves. But Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer are keeping the company of millions. Since 2001, they have cultivated a massive following online by posting hilarious self-produced TV spoofs, wacky rap videos, and videogame remixes on their Web site. Word of mouth soon landed the twentysomethings a full-time gig on Saturday Night Live, where they’ve been writing, directing, and acting in what NBC calls “digital shorts”: low-budget videos with the look and feel of their shot-for-the-Web work.

SNL bits like “Taco Town,” “Lettuce,” and “Lazy Sunday” rocked on TV, but they really took off when fans uploaded them to the Net. “Lazy Sunday” has been watched more than 5 million times on YouTube alone – rivaling the number of viewers who saw it the night it aired on SNL last December. And people didn’t just watch. Do a search for “Lonely Island” on any video-sharing site and you’ll find dozens of fan-created remakes. The group has essentially transformed sketch comedy into an interactive art form. Even more impressive: They’ve made Saturday Night Live hip again.

– Eric Steuer

5 essential ingredients of a Lonely Island spoof

1. The juvenile humor of cartoons
“Cartoons are the best stuff on TV,” Schaffer says. “Wonder Showzen, Aqua Teen, SpongeBob, and, of course, South Park – one of the funniest shows ever made.”

2. The creativity of early SNL
“Albert Brooks’ short films on SNL’s first season in particular have been an inspiration,” Taccone says. “He helped pave the way for what we do.”

3. The ’tude of hip hop
“I hope it shows that we’re actually true fans,” Taccone says. “Nothing’s lamer than a bunch of goofy guys making fun of rap.”

4. The styling of MTV
“I’ve always loved music videos – I used to make my own for bands like Pearl Jam,” Schaffer says. “My favorite directors are Michel Gondry, Spike Jonze, and Patrick Daughters.”

5. The pacing of videogames
“Tecmo Bowl and Mike Tyson’s Punch Out!! have taken up a lot of my life,” Samberg says. “Those are hipster games,” says Schaffer. “I’m all about Halo 2.”

Andy Samberg - Is he the least expendable cast member on SNL? (Washington Post article)

Check out the bold section below in this commentary on Saturday Night Live. Also note that this article confirms that SNL is starting early in the fall, and that it could start on September 13. The reason may be the short season this year, but it also might be attributed to (as this article says) the desire grab more ratings from the political race. While Andy keeps some people coming to he show and everyone going to the Internet, they need angles like political characters to get the ratings up (and I think more character-driven skits, ala Will Ferrell, Mike Meyers, etc.)

Crossing the Finish Line, 'SNL' Shows Some Late Kick

By Tom Shales
Monday, May 19, 2008; C01

From:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/18/AR2008051802321_pf.html

Loping, romping and sometimes crawling to the finish line, "Saturday Night Live" ended another season on NBC with a show that featured Sen. John McCain, the likely Republican presidential candidate, in fine comic fettle, with the regular cast members' fettle even finer. Although the written material was spotty, the cast managed to have a party with it, and the viewing nation responded.

Based on Nielsen overnight ratings from 56 metered markets, "SNL's" season finale -- hosted by actor Steve Carell -- scored better than any show on any network in prime time that night. The 5.4 rating/13 share (roughly 6 1/2 million viewers) was also the best showing for an "SNL" season finale in three years. This was, of course, an abnormal season, with the writers' strike shortening it by five shows and some episodes being run twice in the same month.

Next season, its 34th, will be unusual, as well, because of the presidential election and the fact that "SNL" seems most heavily watched when political passions are running high. Normally, the show would return for a new season mere weeks before Election Day, but to make the most of the event, "SNL" will return in September (possibly as early as Sept. 13), with occasional Thursday night prime-time political specials also scheduled and a "Presidential Bash" special set to air Nov. 3, the night before the election.

It's a heavy load, but the current cast -- expected to return intact in the fall -- can handle it. "SNL" can boast one of the best and most resourceful ensembles since its legendary and now iconic first five years, when John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Garrett Morris and other founding funsters burst upon the American scene, ran riot and changed TV comedy almost overnight.

While the current cast lacks a powerhouse ringleader like Will Ferrell, the comic talent seems more evenly distributed and the dead weight more scarce than in many a season past.

As has been noted here and elsewhere, the cast is especially strong on the female side, which in the past had been the weaker sex. Amy Poehler is a dynamo whose raw energy and determination can rescue all but the most miserable material. She will be back next season, an NBC spokesman said yesterday, but will be taking some weeks off for maternity leave. Her baby is due in the fall.

Kristen Wiig, another astoundingly versatile performer, really blossomed this season and is expected to return next. She has developed a repertory of quixotic characters who are fiendishly funny even though they'd be intolerably irritating if encountered in real life. Wiig didn't have quite as much to do as usual on the season finale, though one audience member said she did the show's warm-up very effectively, singing instead of telling jokes. She also brightened up the very last sketch in the show, a musical spoof about a couple (Wiig and Carell) planning for their first child. It was a lot better than the very first sketch in the show. Carell proved an especially hard-working host, appearing in more of the sketches than many hosts have done.

Wiig and Poehler, both tremendous talents, have managed a neat trick often cited as one of Lucille Ball's signature feats: being funny and attractive at the same time. Newcomer Casey Wilson, added as a featured player when the show returned after the strike, may be promoted to cast member in order to handle some of Poehler's chores when she's away.

Among the male cast members, Andy Samberg is easily the least expendable, having made a name for himself in the "SNL Digital Shorts" that air each week and then move to the Internet. Samberg can do outrageous farce or subtle spoofs. Darrell Hammond, who has been with the show longer than any other cast member, continues to contribute inspired and definitive impressions of showbiz stars and political figures.

McCain won't be joining the cast, of course, having other preoccupations, but he did a first-class job in two appearances on the season finale. It was strange that Executive Producer Lorne Michaels chose to open the show with a childish skit about naughty names and not, as has become a tradition this season, with a political sketch -- especially with McCain conveniently right there in the building.

In his first appearance, McCain sat at a vaguely presidential desk and addressed "My fellow Americans" (twice, having been drowned out by applause the first time) and suggested that when choosing the next president, Americans should look for "someone who is very, very, very old." The segment was written by James Downey, who has authored most of the "cold open" political sketches.

McCain showed up again during the mock newscast "Weekend Update," denouncing, among other things, a "device that can jam 'Gaydar.' " He also reiterated the assertion that he has "the oldness necessary" to be president. One thing that might get old quickly -- and maybe already has -- are jokes about McCain's age, many of them recycled Ronald Reagan lines. But if McCain himself makes them, they can't be considered very offensive.

Usher, the way-cool pop star, performed twice, the second song being by far the more impressive. It was inventively choreographed, replete with two slinky babes who not only walked but danced in what looked like the highest heels on the planet. Any higher and they would have surely gone face first into the floor.

"SNL" season finales are rarely among the best shows of whatever season is being completed. The exhaustion of the entire company, those before and behind the cameras, seems palpable even to us out here in television land. But viewers sort of share in this rather than merely observe it. Certainly the old hip boast that "I never watch 'Saturday Night Live' " seems like ancient history now, and the exhilarating excellence of the current cast is probably the chief reason why.

Andy Samberg's Digital Shorts - Their history and future

Here are our opinions...

The dudes have only had one hit Digital Short this year so far with Iran So Far. They had 2 other great shorts: Andy Punching and Laser Cats 3D. There were also good ones like Hero's Song, DVD Grandsons, The Miror, and Jonah's Dating Andy's Dad. (They also had Daiquiri Girl.) Total so far of 3 songs (1 was great) and 3 great shorts.

Last Season, the dudes had two hits with Junk in a Box and Dear Sister. They also had other great shorts like Andy Popping onto Frame, Business Meeting, and Harpoon Man. They also had good shorts like Talking Dog, Laser Cats 2, Roy Rules, Sloths, and Nurse Nancy. Total of 4 songs (2 were great) and 5 great shorts.

Their first season, the dudes had two hits with Narnia Rap (Lazy Sunday) and Natalie Portman Rap. They also had other great shorts like Laser Cats, Young Chuck Norris, Ariel & Erfim (My Testicles), Lettuce, and Andy Walking. And they had a few good ones like Doppleganger, an Peyote. Total of 4 songs (all 4 were great) and 7 great shorts.

Personally, I think Ariel & Efrim (My Testicles) and Young Chuck Norris should have also been bigger hits. Note that I'm not really mentioning the Andy-less shorts or the ones that didn't feature Andy much.

The Future of SNL Digital Shorts

The thing is, the dudes have to re-invent themselves every season (that's the corner they put themselves in with the digital shorts; it's not like Will Ferrell where he could nail the same characters and make everyone happy).

A friendly reminder that these are just our opinions...

Are the dudes running out of juice? Season 1 of "Andy Samberg on SNL" had 4 songs. All were great. Season 2 had 4 songs, although only 2 were great. Season 3 has had 3 songs so far, but only one has been great.

Season 1 had 7 great digital shorts. Season 2 had 5 great digital shorts. So far, Season 3 has had 3 great digital shorts. Are they slipping? Are they going downhill?

Notice how Laser Cats 3 was great? If they are able to continue hits with sequels that are still fresh (what people like Mike Meyers and Will Ferrell are known for), then they will be able to keep the ball rolling more. I mean, people really want another Natalie Portman Rap, more Young Chuch Norris, Justin and Andy, and, of course, more Lazy Sundays. They've only recognized this with Laser Cats.

Come on, Andy! You can't come up with original ideas forever! We want sequels to your hits (as long as you keep them fresh ala Mike Meyers, Will Ferrel, and Laser Cats 3)!

Thanks!
