Seth Rogen & Andy Samberg (Like A Boss) on PopTub

Gina didn't think Andy Samberg and Seth Rogen were funny
Is ‘SNL’ getting lame again? Sweat drops!
The fall of 2008 is starting to seem like a long, long time ago. The creative spike of “Saturday Night Live” has officially dipped back into a comfortable lull. Not awful. Not great. Completely miss-able.
Weird that Seth Rogen didn’t star in “I Love You, Man.” He’s the original bromantic guy. Maybe that’s why, even though it’s been done a hundred times in as many ways, my favorite skit of his on “SNL” was “The Fast and the Bi-Curious,” where he got rough and tumbly with Andy Samberg at a mechanic’s garage.
"If you like fast cars, hot nights and gay stuff, then buddy, this is the movie for you."
Other than that – and I admit, that’s not exactly a showstopper – plus the Angelina Jolie vs. Madonna skit, the rest of Weekend Update and the Muppets, the April 4 show was pretty sleepy. It also featured three sets by French alt rock band Phoenix. (Why did they get three sets?)
Maybe Rogen lost a piece of his funny bone along with all that fat. It was his second SNL appearance (the other was in October of 2007). His dramatic weight loss was joke fodder during the monologue, where he also took questions from the “audience.”
A couple of questions were about “Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” taking aim at Rogen’s new movie, “Observe and Report,” the second mall cop movie of the year, coming out April 10. One heavy-set “audience member” (Bobby Moynihan) was ticked at Rogen for losing weight because his way of scoring chicks was to say he’s Seth Rogen.
****
The rest of the show was hit or miss, but a focus on miss. There was a “Save the Funnies” sketch -- which as a newspaper employee, I should’ve liked, even if no one else did. But it was long, stilted and not exactly sharp. Or maybe the audience just needed uppers. (How much of the success of the show depends on the energy of the audience?)
Dick Tracy, Archie, Veronica, Hagar, Garfield and others tried to come up with a plan to save newspapers. Andy Samberg returned as Cathy, who was late to the meeting: “I had a hot date – with my TV Guide! Sweat drops!”
I did like when the guy who makes the jumbles said he wanted to help.
Dick Tracy: “Well, I don’t think you can help us.”
Jumble guy: “Cuff you.”
Dick Tracy is confused.
Jumble guy: “Jumble it.”
And of course Peppermint Patty and Marcie make out. Eventually they are saved by Fred Armisen as Sudoku. “People will pay to solve my puzzles.”
****
Bill Hader, always interesting even when the sketch isn’t, returned as Italian talk show host Vinny Vedecci. He interviewed Seth Rogen, aka “Bear Man,” and Bobby Moynihan played Vinny’s son, who wanted to know if Seth’s mama was a human and his papa was a bear. Not the best skit .
****
Sometimes the SNL Digital Shorts are great, so I had high hopes. This time, Seth Rogen and Andy Samberg sat down for a performance review. Then Andy broke into a rap song about being the boss. “Micromanage – Like a Boss! – Hit on Deborah – Like a Boss! – Get rejected – Like a Boss!...”
****
The bachelor party impressions skit should’ve been a lot better. Maybe it was too long, maybe it was just too much about the three actors -- Andy, Bill and Seth – impressing each other. They were hanging out, trying to plan a friend’s bachelor party, when they each got calls from their girlfriends and had to use “girlfriend voices.” From there, one got a call from a friend in witness protection, from a cousin who sounds like Gizmo in “Gremlins,” from a Scottish boss, from a friend in a coma (beep, beep, beep, beeeeeeeeep).
****
Weekend Update is still the strongest element of the show, even with just Seth Meyers there. As usual, the Obamas were a main focus. (Ahh, forgot to mention, Fred Armisen did his Obama thing again in a very long cold opening/pre-monologue address on the auto industry and the economy. Sorry, I just miss Tina Fey when I watch him.)
When Michelle Obama was photographed wearing clothes from J. Crew, they sold out of the clothes she was wearing.
Seth: “Now if someone could just get her to drive a Chrysler.”
He had a banner riff on the gifts passed between Obama and the Queen of England – an iPod for her, a portrait for him. It was a pretty inspired take on everything, actually.
Seth: “In short, try to remember you’re world leaders, not Secret Santas.”
Jason Sudeikis came in as Rod Blagojevich, but that was a miss.
Kenan Thompson’s Jean K. Jean always makes me want to get up and dance – “Zut alors!”
Loved the Madonna/Angelina Jolie visit. That could’ve been taken out of Weekend Update and made its own skit, replacing any one of the others.
Kristen Wiig was Madonna, with a blonde wig, giant glasses and faux British accent. She whined about not getting the baby from Malawi. “I know you can’t tell by my face, but I’m really bummed out.”
Abby Elliott’s Angelina Jolie came in. Did she hear someone talking about babies?
They have something of a pissing contest over who adopts from the coolest and craziest places.
Angelina: “I just got a baby from Russia.”
Madonna: “That’s not that crazy.”
Angelina: “Really? Well my baby is a baby inside a baby inside a baby.”
That was probably the best skit of the night and it didn’t even have the host – a truly funny guy, normally – anywhere near it.
****
Here’s a really lame one. Seth Rogen came in for a meeting with the boss, Fred Armisen. All the other employees were standing around, looking angry. Rogen was supposed to send a quarterly prospectus to investors and instead he sent the “Grease” soundtrack.
****
Award for worst skit of the night definitely goes to another Andy/Seth pairing, this time on an episode of “Milestone High” where nerdy Andy tries to tutor jock Seth. Turns out Seth isn’t the captain of the basketball team, he’s just special. Beyond stupid.
****
Strangely enough, the honky tonk skit with Seth as a music producer and Kristen and Will Forte singing about beer jars and Easter anthems was just insane enough to be half-interesting. It went on too long, like most of the skits, but I like the weird turn the show took toward the end of the night.
****
Like Muppets on a bus. Now there’s a skit that had potential and used some of it. You can’t really go wrong with the Muppets. Especially violent Muppets.
Zoot: "Anybody who has a problem with what just happened, say it now."
****
They should’ve run Muppets earlier in the night, killed the “Grease” and “Milestone High” skits, turned Angie/Madge into its own skit and found some way to get Paul Rudd on the show. Because you can’t have a real bromance without both Seth and Paul.

Samberg just released a CD as part of the comedy troupe the Lonely Island. Incredibad is their debut album.

Jason Eldredge: Hey it’s Jason Eldredge from KCRW and I’m here with Andy Samberg who is a member of the comedy troupe The Lonely Island and also a cast member of Saturday Night Live. Andy is here for KCRW’s Guest DJ Project. How are you doing?
Andy Samberg: I’m good, how are you?
Jason Eldredge.: I’m doing well. So you’ve brought a selection of songs. A very eclectic collection, I have to say. It’s very nice so…
Andy Samberg: Thank you. Yeah, I went out of my way to do that.
Jason Eldredge.: That’s good, that’s very good.
Andy Samberg: Don’t put too much on these songs. I love these songs but I couldn’t ever whittle it down to five, so I just picked songs I like right now and tried to keep it eclectic.
Jason Eldredge: Well, why don’t we jump right into the first one here.
Andy Samberg: This first hot track is entitled ‘Jah Jah City’ by reggae dancehall artist Capleton.
It’s basically the jammy slammy. I mean, I think everyone -- critics and fans alike -- can agree on that. Me and all my friends growing up in Berkeley, in high school and in college, dancehall was a huge part of our lives and we got really into Sizzla and Capleton and, you know, Bounty Killer…the guys!
Jason Eldredge: The standards.
Andy Samberg: All kinds of cool stuff. But this song in particular, this one always when it comes on everyone at the party everyone goes aaaAAAHH. A good jam is a good jam.
Song: Capleton’s “Jah Jah City”
Jason Eldredge: This next song is, you know, a little naughty.
Andy Samberg: It’s got a different tone.
Jason Eldredge: It does for sure.
Andy Samberg: It’s Ghostface, “The Champ.” I mean hot, hot killer track right here.
I got this album pretty much as soon as it came out. I think I was at work at SNL and we started listening to it and this song came on and me and Akiva share an office and we were all just like like ‘Ohhhhhhhhh that’s a good beat!” And it’s Just Blaze, who is by far one of my favorite beat makers in hip hop. I think of him as sort of carrying the Premiere torch in terms of like that really raw dog hip hop, you know the stuff that really makes you nod your head and get out of your seat and just jam. (laughs)
And let me just say “The Champ” by Ghostface Killah is no exception. I mean it really delivers the goodies. It takes it straight to all the heads. Streets definitely want this track. And they got it. Just Blaze and Ghostface gave it right to them.
Jason Eldredge: Streets and NBC offices alike.
Song: Ghostface Killah’s “The Champ”
Jason Eldredge: You know, one really follows up Ghostface with Roberta Flack.
Andy Samberg: Yeah.
Jason Eldredge: It’s a logical progression.
Jason Eldredge: And especially a song like this.
Andy Samberg: Especially a song like this, “Do What You Gotta Do.” It’s really, really aggressive and angry.
Jason Eldredge: It caused a lot of riots back in the 70’s, as I understand.
Andy Samberg: This song is on an album of hers that my parents had and my mom loves Roberta Flack. In junior high and high school, I got really into their record collection and would put on the head phones and listen to all the old music they had and this song for some reason always just stuck out to me as one that I really loved. Put it on a lot of mix tapes, if you know what I mean.
Jason Eldredge: Yeah, it’s a sad one.
Andy Samberg: It is really sad. It’s weird how even though the sentiment of the song is really like a bummer, it always kind of makes me happy. It’s so pretty…dare I say? That it kind of transcends what’s being said -- for me. But anyways… it’s good.
Jason Eldredge: It is good so let’s -- this is a selection from a childhood of Andy Samberg. It’s Roberta Flack with “Do What You Gotta Do” on KCRW.
Andy Samberg: Put your guns in the air.
Song: Roberta Flack’s “Do What You Gotta Do”
Jason Eldredge: I’m Jason Eldredge. It’s KCRW’s Guest DJ Project. I’m sitting here with Andy Samberg and we are talking - and laughing - about all of these songs that Andy has brought in today and why don’t you go ahead and introduce this next selection.
Andy Samberg: I love Beirut. I buy all of his stuff. And I know his name is not Beirut. It’s like Nine Inch Nails -- you say he instead of they because it’s one dude -- but I love it when he does a little more electro. The new double EP package thing he just put out, half of them are this style as well, and this song is on there too. But I don’t really have a ton to say about it particularly, I just really like the song.
Jason Eldredge: Let’s just listen to it. It’s “My Night With a Prostitute From Marsaille” which is quite a mouthful to say.
Andy Samberg: Is it based on a true story? Who’s to say?
Jason Eldredge: Possibly.
Andy Samberg: Who knows. Who really knows.
Song: Beirut’s “My Night With a Prostitute From Marsaille”
Jason Eldredge: That song is “My Night With a Prostitute From Marsaille.” You were talking about how you sort of enjoy his electro stuff a little bit more. This next song definitely leans in that direction as well. Why don’t you talk about the next selection.
Andy Samberg: The next selection is “Ask Me Anything” by The Strokies. That is actually what their official name is, they changed it like Santigold. They go by the Strokies now.
Jason Eldredge: For legal reasons.
Andy Samberg: This song is the one that is super low key and Julian keeps saying ‘I’ve got nothing to say.’ When this album actually came out -- I’m a massive die hard Strokes fan and obviously now buddies with Julian, and he did a song on Lonely Island also which I love called “Boom Box” -- but before I knew him, I loved this song and all their albums, honestly. But this song, I just like cause it seemed like it was risky for them to do this song. It’s really stripped down and I just kinda like the whole vibe of it. It almost, in a weird way, reminds of a Beatles song. But then it’s not. Because it’s by The Strokies.
Song: The Strokes’ “Ask Me Anything”
Jason Eldredge: Alright, thank you so much Andy for coming in.
Andy Samberg: Thank you for having me.
Jason Eldredge: And being on KCRW’s Guest DJ Project.
Andy Samberg: Fantastic. Thanks man.

Seems pretty stupid, but give it a chance!

Andy Samberg - in Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist
Andy Samberg plays a great and creepy homeless guy in this Michael Cera movie. It makes sense that Andy is using Michael for the MTV Movie Awards promos. (Plus Andy knows Jack Black, who is also in the promos. Jack Black was in Awesometown and in the Glirk skit, http://andysamberg.blogspot.com/2006/08/andy-samberg-is-alien-glirk.html.)
Cameo appearance of SNL cast Andy Samberg.
The high school love story between two teens with much more in common than just Music.

Andy Samberg - Is the host and not Jack Black or Michael Cera (MTV Movie Awards 09 Promo 2)
Promo with Jack Black, Michael Cera, Andy Samberg
The Awards are May 31st, so we've got a month!!!
This is a nice but simple short shot in an SNL Digital Short style (must be Akiva behind the cam with Jorma mixing the tune).
Jack Black turns awesomely.
Enjoy!

Blog update: Yeah, the Amy Poehler post had way too many vids in it, so it was slowing down your computers. So it's off the main page now. We're going to go in and divide it amongst two or three posts. That should help a bit. Thanks!

A Message Out to the Lonely Island (Andy Samberg)
Wait, so all you have to do is make a shot and Andy does whatever you want? Is that how it works? LOL
From the description:
While we were filming "Sick/Trick Basketball Shots" I thought I'd take the opportunity to hopefully get a shot at having The Lonely Island notice me and hopefully consider my offer. I wasn't being serious when I said I wanted to make a million dollars and stuff. I was just joking around, but I think it would be absolutely amazing if Andy, Akiva or Jorma saw this and considered giving me the chance. Thank you, and if any of you Lonely Island guys are watching....you're awesome and I hope you'll consider.
I'll be sending them a message and hoping that they'll get it and check out what I'm trying to do.
Sooooooo....yeah.
-Chris
Chris wants to reiterate that he's just kidding. =^)

I Am Your Mother
Never forget where you came from.
Fred Armisen goes nuts on Zac here. No women in this skit. Except for Fred.
Andy gets to be Zac's friend in two skits (this one and the bar one), because he's the young and cool-looking male cast member. Nice!!! =^)

SNL Writing Process
Fred describes the SNL writing process where Andy Samberg gets his skits written.
On Wednesdays we do a table read. This is right before piles of scripts are set in front of the cast, producers, writers, and crew. That seat right there in the middle is where Lorne sits.
There's Jorma Taccone (Andy's friend and a member of The Lonely Island).
This is the rewrite table on Thursday. It's after the sketches have been chosen. The writers go through, piece by piece, changing what didn't work at the table read, making cuts, that kind of thing. I'm making it sound work-y. It's actually really fun being around this part of it.

"I'm On a Boat" grafiti at Michigan State University
Brooke said:
Found this TLI-inspired graffiti on campus...It's kinda hard to read but it definitely says "I'm on a Boat." Good to know that there are other Spartans out there who could see themselves "busting five knots, wind whippin' out my coat."

Andy Samberg - Buys candy in a suit (photo)
Fred Armisen writes...
We started this week as a total nerd-fest. Monday is the day we pitch our sketch ideas to Lorne and our host. We walk into a small office, sit, and one by one talk about what we want to try that week. It's mainly a way for us to all get together and feel out how the show is going to be. But for this pitch meeting, we all wanted to do something special for Jon Hamm since we are ALL such huge Mad Men fans. So we decided to show up totally dressed up in suits and early 60's style dresses. It's funny because we've never done anything like that for pitch. Many of us had cigarettes and glasses of scotch too. It seemed like he really liked it and I'm glad we did it. Everyone looked great. I can't even remember what the pitches were...
Okay, so the photos below are from after the pitch meeting I just wrote about. Some of us went out to dinner and then ended up in this candy store. I was laughing about how we are these grown men in suits totally excited about getting candy. So I took some pictures.
Andy and Jorma
This is in the office of Weekend Update. After the dress rehearsal, they decide what jokes go where.

Wow, they break every single Weekend Update joke up to decide if it's good enough.

Darrell Hammond ... Walt Disney
Bobby Moynihan ... student

Mad props to Zac for being willing to make fun of himself. Andy, Abby, and Bobby are hilarious here.
Andy Samberg and Abby Elliott should do high school characters in their own skit. I think the'd be pretty funny.
I like Andy's little dance move before he sings at the end.
Kenan's singing voice hurts the song at the end. Intentional?

No new SNL this week - Best of Amy Poehler
No new SNL this week. Instead they're showing the best of Amy Poehler.
That's probably to help promote her new series that started last week, Parks and Recreation. Anybody see it yet?
Next new episode is on 5/9/09 with Justin Timberlake hosting and with musical guest Ciara.
Come on Justin and Andy! We need another original song, ala Junk in the Box. We also want Andy to do Boombox, but maybe he can do that on a non-Justin week instead. =^)

SNL 4/11/09 - Zac Efron & the Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Updated 4/13 with the Kristen Wiig promo!
Not the best week for Andy and Bill, but it was a great week for Bobby! Still, Andy got in three key skits. Take a look!
Promo: Zac Effron with Fred Armisen and Kenan Thompson
Hilarious! These must be mostly Fred's gags. Even Fred's gag at the end is funny, "Hey, can I eat your food?" And there's nothing there!!!
Promo: Zac Efron, Kristen Wiig, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs
They're in Studio 8H.
This seems like Kristen's jokes. Not as good as Fred's above.
Cold Opening: Obama Homecoming
Fred Armisen ... Barack Obama
Jason Sudeikis ... Joseph Biden
Casey Wilson ... Katie, secretary (voice)
Fred's still not willing to make fun of Obama, so all the jokes here are from Jason's impressions of Biden. Fred's Obama impression remains stale and unfunny. Thanks for saving Fred on this one, Jason!

Overall: Not a ton of Andy this week, with only 3 skits and no digital shorts. But we did get 2 digital shorts last week and a lot of Andy skits. Basically, Andy had a good week last week because Seth sat down with Bill and Andy and came up with stuff to do with them. This week it was just up to the writers, who favor the more versatile character actors (although Bill is a character actor, he's not as snarky as Fred, Kristen, and Jason).
So this week Jason Sudeikis took the cake with 7 skits, and following behind him were Fred Armisen, Bobby Moynihan, and Kristen Wiig, all with 5 skits. Yay, Bobby! Keep showing your versatility in all the characters you can do!
Enjoy!

Enjoy!

It's a shot-by-shot remake.

Abby Elliott should do an Angelina Jolie Show skit on SNL!!!
Update: Madonna & Angelina Jolie
These baby-hungry ladies face-off.
Hahahaha!!! Hilarious! The Russian baby gag is great! Even the gag at the end is great!
This is Abby's third appearance on Weekend Update as Angelina Jolie. She needs to do an Angelina Jolie show!!!!
That would be hilarious! Sort of like Jim Bruer's (Goatboy's) "Joe Pesci Show" and Chris Katan's "Antonia Banderas How do you say it? Ah yes. Show."
I think Andy Samberg could do some hilarious bits with her in that. Like maybe it's Mark Wahlberg on the Angelina Jolie show!!!!
Enjoy!

Andy Samberg - Is Swedish Chef in the Muppet Bus (with Seth Rogen)
Muppets Hit & Run
The Muppets have a run-in with the law.
Seth Rogen ... Rowlf
Fred Armisen ... Zoot
Will Forte ... Kermit
Bill Hader ... Animal
Bobby Moynihan ... Gonzo
Andy Samberg ... Swedish Chef
Jason Sudeikis ... Fozzie
Kenan Thompson ... Nipsey Russell
Michaela Watkins ... Janice
Kristen Wiig ... Beaker
Andy's third skit as the Swedish Chef. His first skit was the Swedish Chef ringtones in his first, 05-06 season (and started all these Muppet skits). Second, he returned last season (07-08) with the Muppets band, where Maya Rudolph played the woman, Janice, Hader played Animal, and Seth Rogen (the host then too) played Rowlf. Now the Muppets return with even more characters including Beaker (Kristen is hard to recognize here), Kermit, Gonzo (yay Bobby!), and Fozzie the Bear.
I think the funniest new addition here was actually Jason Sudeikis as Fozzy. I liked that Bobby was holding a chicken. Andy got a good laugh when slapping Beaker and talking to him in um, smorgy borgy.
What, no Miss Piggy? I think Casey or Abby could do a good job with it.
Enjoy!

Seth Rogen and Andy Samberg should do a movie together!!!
Yeah, that's right. Let's state the obvious and make it known!!!
Now we know that Seth and Andy also hit it off (starting with the Ron Google skits at the 2006 MTV Movie Awards, and then they did a lot together when Seth hosted last time and this time), so are we going to start seeing Andy Samberg in Seth Rogen movies too (not just Bill and Seth)? Please? :)
Last year, Seth brought Rowlf into the mix to play off of Andy's Swedish Chef, and they added the whole crew of muppets to the mix:
Plus Andy and Seth played off of each other in two digital shorts this week! (They're calling one a commercial, but that's just an excuse to have two.)
First, Andy and Seth did Like a Boss:
This song is from Andy's The Lonely Island CD, Incredibad. Looks like they remixed the intro voice to use Seth Rogen's voice.
And if that isn't enough to tell you that they work well together, check this out:
Andy and Seth work so well together! Do a movie! Seriously, this would make a good movie. I don't think you could stretch gay jokes out into two hours, but Andy Samberg and Seth Rogen would make pretty funny competitive racers.
Plus you can't forget the hilarious phone voices:
So worse case scenario, the three of them (Bill, Seth, and Andy) could do a great movie together!
Here are some ideas for a movie they could do (got any more?):
- Competitive racers (ala Fast and Furious meets Ballad of Ricky Bobby)
- Ron Google (the story of Seth Rogen and Andy Samberg's Google Man)
- Backyard wrestlers who want to go pro
- Army boys
- Rival ninjas
- Space marines
Hahahaha!!!
Enjoy!

Andy Samberg - Has a sexy phone voice!!! (with Seth Rogen)
Phone Voices
Phone mannners 101.
Seth Rogen ... guy
Fred Armisen ... Mr. Ferguson
Bill Hader ... guy
Andy Samberg ... guy
Hahahahaha!!! Nice. Good gag that starts out normal and they take to extremes. I think this one was written by Bill and Seth. Andy's sexy voice and Scottish voice are amazing!!!!!
Gill's Gizmo voice was great, but a few of the other voices got a little tedious pretty fast.
Kind of a strange skit to end, so they ended it with Fred coming in.
Enjoy!

Fred Armisen needs to step up his Obama game
Cold Opening Obama's Business Rulings
Pres. Obama makes some tough business decisions.
Fred Armisen ... Barack Obama
Fred really needs to find some humor in this character. He needs to exagerate the character more. This was mildly amusing, but still a bit dry, mostly because Fred isn't going anywhere with his Obama impression. He's starting to make fun of how Obama's plans edge toward socialism, and they should use that a lot more and take it to higher extremes. They should also make fun of how many of his speeches sound like sermons. Just listing companies was slightly amusing, but the character isn't funny enough to carry the gags.
Fred's impression is slightly amusing, but it is not as hilarious as Sudeikis' Biden (the one where he trashed McCain while saying they were best friends), Tina Fey's Palin, Will Ferrell's George W. Bush, Dana Carvey's Ross Perot and George Bush Sr, Hammond's Bill Clinton, and Poehler's Hilary Clinton. It's almost like Obama is the first president where SNL is too afraid to make fun of him; so instead they just act like him and try to come up with other jokes. Fred Armisen has the mannerisms down, but he needs to be willing to make fun of President Obama. Until that happens, this character just won't compare to the greats.
Come on Fred! Make fun of Obama!!!
What does this have to do with Andy? Nothing!!! Mwahahahaha. Although I do wonder how Andy Samberg's Obama impression would be... Hmmm...
I wonder if they could do a skit where all the SNLers "try out" for the part of Obama (sort of like the skit they did for the Bill Clinton tryouts).
Enjoy!

Andy Samberg - Is Like a Boss (with Seth Rogen)
Updated 5/26/09: Added the uncensored NBC version.
==========================================
SNL Digital Short: Like a Boss
Boss-like in every way
Seth Rogen ... interviewer
Abby Elliott ... coworker
Bill Hader ... coworker
Bobby Moynihan ... coworker
Paula Pell ... coworker
Andy Samberg
Jason Sudeikis ... coworker
Jorma Taccone ... mail guy
Akiva Schaeffer ... gun guy
Kristen Wiig ... Debra
Casey Wilson ... coworker
Here's the Rated R version (explicit lyrics):
(2.6 million views on YouTube already.)
NBC's uncensored version (no laughter and no censors):
Clean version without the SNL audience laughs:
This song is from Andy's The Lonely Island CD, Incredibad. Fans want Boombox next, but this one made sense because the voice features Andy Samberg. Looks like they remixed the intro voice to use Seth Rogen's voice. Jorma Taccone makes a guest appearance as the mail man, and Akiva makes a guest appearance as the man who sells Andy the gun (which is appropriate, as members of The Lonely Island). We also see Paula Pell (a writer) in one of her rare face appearances (usually she just lends her voice).
Some people have already critized this one a bit, saying it's a rehash. It definitely has a similar setup to Natalie Raps (from about 3 years ago), and the shock gags are very similar to Sloth and Giraffes. The large fish muppet is a new concept. Jorma used to use muppets more before The Lonely Island joined Saturday Night Live. Specifically, I'm thinking of Stork Patrol and an episode of The Bu where they replaced Sarah Chalke with a muppet version. Of course, their love of Muppets also led to Andy Samberg doing the Swedish Chef role; the third in that series was also in this episode.
That's what Kristen Wiig's Debra gets for turning down Andy!!! (Who apparently played himself... as a boss in an office?) Abby and Bobby are hilarious to watch as they follow Andy down the hall.
Enjoy!

Zac Efron up next on SNL
Update: Added the promo video!!!
============================
Zac Efron is hosting Saturday Night Live (SNL) on Saturday, 4/11/09 with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Here are his promos with Fred Armisen and Kenan Thompson:
Hilarious! These must be mostly Fred's gags. Even Fred's gag at the end is funny, "Hey, can I eat your food?" And there's nothing there!!!
That's all. No idea what skits he might do with Andy. Any guesses?
The rumor mill also says that we'll see Justin Timberlake and Will Ferrell hosting in May!!!
Enjoy!

Wow, what a big episode this week for Andy Samberg! Let's dig into it...
SNL Promo: Seth Rogen and Fred Armisen
Seth is angry and Fred is annoying.
Funny stuff. This one is much funnier than the Bill Hader gags. Look like mostly Fred's jokes, but the best one is the middle one, where Fred is annoying.
SNL Promo: Seth Rogen and Bill Hader
Seth and Bill on the roof garden.
The roof garden made famous by Andy and Shia!!!
Bill and Seth just aren't all that funny here. These are obvious gags that are more silly than funny.
It makes sense that Seth picked Bill for this (his promos in his last hosting gig were with Andy Samberg). Seth and Bill are good friends. They both met as minor characters in You, Me, and Dupree, and then Seth liked Bill so he invited him to be a minor character in Knocked Up. They continued to hit it off, so Seth basically wrote Super Bad around their cop characters. And Bill's gotten a lot of Apataw roles in the process.
Now we know that Seth and Andy also hit it off (starting with the Ron Google skits at the 2006 MTV Movie Awards, and then they did a lot together when Seth hosted last time and this time), so are we going to start seeing Andy Samberg in Seth Rogen movies too? Please? :)

Monologue: Seth Rogen
Host Seth Rogen opens the show with some Q&A.
Seth Rogen
Abby Elliott ... Lisa, audience member
Bill Hader ... pizza delivery man
Bobby Moynihan ... Matt Banksford
Jason Sudeikis ... audience member
Kristen Wiig ... audience member
I love it when they do these Q&A sessions for the monologues!
All are good gags here. Jason and Kristen make fun of Seth doing a mall cop movie (after Paul Blart Mall Cop was successful), Bill makes fun of Seth's weight loss (and weed habits), and Bobby and Abby have a hilarious bit about a guy who can't pretend to be Seth anymore. I think they ended with the funniest gag, but they were all pretty good!
Commercial: The Fast & The Bi-Curious
Seth Rogen ... guy
Abby Elliott ... girl
Andy Samberg ... Blake

Kristen Wiig ... Beaker
Andy's third skit as the Swedish Chef. His first skit was the Swedish Chef ringtones in his first, 05-06 season.
Overall: Wow. It seriously looked like Andy Samberg and Seth Rogan wrote most of these skits (with a few in there written by Bill and Seth). Andy was in 7 skits in this episode, which is possibly his record. Abby Elliott also appeared 6 times, and Bobby Moynihan appeared 5 times. So those newbies really got to shine in this episode as well. Plus Jorma Taccone was in "Like a Boss," which makes sense because that song is from The Lonely Island CD, Incredibad. Overall, there were a lot more ensemble skits than usual.
Also, a few of Andy Samberg's characters have expanded to become ensemble skits. Andy returns as Cathy a third time (after just appearing with Justin in the last episode), and this time he brought Hagar, Garfield, and more (what, no Dilbert?). That skit could probably be done 6 more times with some different characters and be different every time. Plus Andy returns for a third time as the Swedish Chef, and this time the group is even larger than last time. So it's great to see Andy's characters expand to full ensemble skits.
Enjoy!
Bonus update: We also updated the 2/14/09 Alec Baldwin and Jonas Brothers episode with a Michaela Watkins video that's hilarious! It's her blogger character on Weekend Update.

Please? :)
Monologue: Seth Rogen
Host Seth Rogen opens the show with some Q&A.
Seth Rogen
Abby Elliott ... Lisa, audience member
Bill Hader ... pizza delivery man
Bobby Moynihan ... Matt Banksford
Jason Sudeikis ... audience member
Kristen Wiig ... audience member
I love it when they do these Q&A sessions for the monologues!
All are good gags here. Jason and Kristen make fun of Seth doing a mall cop movie (after Paul Blart Mall Cop was successful), Bill makes fun of Seth's weight loss (and weed habits), and Bobby and Abby have a hilarious bit about a guy who can't pretend to be Seth anymore. I think they ended with the funniest gag, but they were all pretty good!
Commercial: The Fast & The Bi-Curious
Seth Rogen ... guy
Abby Elliott ... girl
Andy Samberg ... Blake
Hahahahaha. Essentially they're calling this a commercial so that they can get two digital shorts in the same episode!
Save The Funnies
Seth Rogen ... Hagar The Horrible
Fred Armisen ... Sudoku
Abby Elliott ... Veronica
Will Forte ... Jon
Bill Hader ... Archie
Darrell Hammond ... jumble maker
Bobby Moynihan ... Garfield
Paula Pell ... Far Side woman
Andy Samberg ... Cathy
Jason Sudeikis ... Dick Tracy
Kenan Thompson ... writer
Michaela Watkins ... Marcy
Kristen Wiig ... Peppermint Patty
Casey Wilson ... Helga
Come on NBC, you have to post this one!!! We need you to post it to help build up popularity so that we can get more of it!!! Everybody, head to NBC.com and leave comments on the SNL videos! Let's get NBC to post this one!!!
Show: La Rivista Della Televisione
Seth Rogen
Fred Armisen ... crew member
Will Forte ... crew member
Bill Hader ... Vinny Vedecci
Bobby Moynihan ... Vinny's son
Bobby Moynihan is hilarious! This is mostly making fun of Seth Rogen. Funny stuff. Is this Bill Hader's best character?
Film SNL Digital Short: Like a Boss
Boss-like in every way
Seth Rogen ... interviewer
Abby Elliott ... coworker
Bill Hader ... coworker
Bobby Moynihan ... coworker
Paula Pell ... coworker
Andy Samberg
Jason Sudeikis ... coworker
Jorma Taccone ... mail guy
Akiva Schaeffer ... gun guy
Kristen Wiig ... Debra
Casey Wilson ... coworker
Phone Voices
Phone mannners 101.
Seth Rogen ... guy
Fred Armisen ... Mr. Ferguson
Bill Hader ... guy
Andy Samberg ... guy
Hahahahaha!!! Nice. Good gag that starts out normal and they take to extremes. I think this one was written by Bill and Seth. Andy's sexy voice and Scottish voice are amazing!!!!!
Musical Performance "Lisztomania"

Weekend Update

Kristen Wiig ... Madonna
Abby Elliott ... Angelina Jolie
Update: Rod Blagojevich
The former Governor stops by.
He's no longer in office, and he's still around. Good play between Jason and Seth. "Con Hair" was good.
Update: Jean K. Jean
France's comedy favorite weighs in on Obama's visit.
I wonder what French people think of this character?
Update: Madonna & Angelina Jolie
These baby-hungry ladies face-off.
Hahahaha!!! Hilarious! The Russian baby gag is great! Even the gag at the end is great!
This is Abby's third appearance on Weekend Update as Angelina Jolie. She needs to do an Angelina Jolie show!!!!

Commercial: Easter Album
Clancy T. Bachleratt and Jackie Snad Sing Easter Songs about Spaceships, Toddlers, Model T. Cars & Jars of Beer
Model-T cars and aliens mean everything.
Seth Rogen ... Kirby Spabblespoov
Will Forte ... Clancy T. Bachleratt
Kristen Wiig ... Jackie Snad
Amusing. This is just Will Forte having fun with his silly randomness. Gets a little painful.
Musical Performance "1901"
Phoenix
Muppets Hit & Run
The Muppets have a run-in with the law.
Seth Rogen ... Rowlf
Fred Armisen ... Zoot
Will Forte ... Kermit
Bill Hader ... Animal
Bobby Moynihan ... Gonzo
Andy Samberg ... Swedish Chef
Jason Sudeikis ... Fozzie
Kenan Thompson ... Nipsey Russell
Michaela Watkins ... Janice
Kristen Wiig ... Beaker
Andy's third skit as the Swedish Chef. His first skit was the Swedish Chef ringtones in his first, 05-06 season.
Enjoy!
