Anna Farris and Andy Samberg are going to share meatballs (Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs)

Anna Farris reports in this interview that she's going to star with Andy Samberg in the 3D animated film, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.



This will be Andy's second animated film, after this summer's Space Chimps.


I think it's because Andy Samberg has a lot of leverage with today's youth and YouTube generation, so a lot of producers want to use him for family fare like Space Chimps and Cloudy.

The blockbuster will be the next from the studio that made “Open Season” and “Surf’s Up,” and is based on the 1982 book by the wife-and-husband author/illustrator duo Judi and Ron Barrett.

Between their big-time work on shows like “Saturday Night Live” and “Friends,” and twisted characters in such films as “Just Friends” and “Hot Rod,” Anna Faris and Andy Samberg have proven themselves to be two of our most animated funny people. Now, both are about to become real-life cartoon stars.

“I’m doing an animated movie when I get back called ‘Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs’,” Faris revealed to MTV News this week on the Albuquerque set of “Observe & Report,” an upcoming comedy co-starring Seth Rogen. “It’s a kid’s book that Sony is adapting into a great big animated feature.”

“It’s me and Andy Samberg,” the “Scary Movie” actress said of the lead voices in the flick. “I’m actually not sure how many people I can talk about, because I’m not sure how many people are signed on. But let me just say I’m doing a voice, with a lot of great comedians.”

Targeting a March 27th release date, the film will build on the book’s brevity by digging deeper into the origins of Chewandswallow, a town that rains breakfast, lunch and dinner every day.

“It’s actually only loosely - very, very loosely - based on the book,” Faris explained. “But it’s about a small town that rains food, basically. So hamburgers come down, and ice cream, and [the residents] have to figure out a way [stop it]. Eventually, it gets more and more dangerous, and they have to figure out a way to stop the satellite machine that’s raining food.”

“I play the lead female, she’s a weather girl,” Faris teased. “So maybe I could take some tips from a real journalist, such as yourself! It should be really fun.”

As for the animation, she explained: “[The character] does look like me, but they’re going to tweak it all. It’s an amazing process…they start the animation process and then they record my voice, and then we go back in and tweak it all…they’ll take mannerisms that I’ve created for the character.”

After tons of TV shows and feature films, Faris is excited to give an on-screen performance even more animated than usual. “It’s something that I’ve wanted to do for a very long time,” she said of being in a cartoon. “And I’m very flattered that I get to be a part of it.”
