So, what do we know about A$$ Backwards?
According to Wikipedia, the film was written by Casey Wilson and her Upright Citizens Brigade colleague, June Diane Raphael, co-writers of Bride Wars (the Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway, and Candice Bergen comedy).
Casey and June nabbed supporting roles in the film.
So that hit has given them a few new projects, including this project, which they put together as their first starring roles. And if that's true, and they are still set to star in this film, then they will be joined by a stellar supporting cast, including...
Anne Hathaway (obviously they met on Bride Wars)
Anna Faris (June and Casey are reworking scripts for her)
Kate Hudson (obviously they met on Bride Wars)
Andy Samberg (our hero)
David Cross (Arrested Development)
Amy Sedaris (from Strangers with Candy)
Stephen Colbert (Strangers with Candy, Daily Show, SNL, and Colbert Report)
Abby Elliott (Yay!!! Abby's first film!)
Meanwhile, Casey and June are also lining up "The Bachelorette Party," starring Jennifer Garner and Anna Farris. It's being described as "The Hangover" for the ladies. So that one's more likely to be the hit they need to keep going, and it's likely to make them a hot commodity... writers who put together successful female comedies (which is pretty rare, because I'm not including rom-coms/romantic comedies that also rely on the male leads).
Thanks to Anony for pointing out some of this info.
Enjoy!

Andy Samberg's Movie Update - "A$$ Backwards"
Sunday, May 30, 2010
Actually Jason Sudeikis might break out before Bill Hader
So I reported earlier that Bill Hader's film career was ahead of Jason Sudeikis (due to Bill's quick work on building up a ton of supporting movie roles), but it looks like Jason made some quick progress lately.
He just wrapped a starring role alongside Owen Wilson in HALL PASS (casting the Farrelly Brothers adamantly fought for) and now he's signed on to star in the star-studded comedy HORRIBLE BOSSES.
Sudeikis will star with Jason Bateman and Charlie Day as three co-workers who cook up a STRANGERS ON A TRAIN type situation where they'll each kill each others bosses who are ruining their lives. Set to play the titular bosses are Jennifer Aniston (pleased to see she's playing something of a villain) and Colin Farrell. Jamie Foxx has also been cast as a con man who gives the guys (terrible) advice on how to get away with the crime.
Filming on BOSSES is scheduled to begin production under director Seth Gordon (FOUR CHRISTMASES) next month and Warner Bros. has already set a big July 2011 release date for the film.
Read more about Jason here...

Andy Samberg at the Kristen Wiig Gotham magazine cover party
The party was on May 17th, 2010.
Saturday Night Live’s Kristen Wiig celebrated her Gotham Magazine cover in New York last night with cast mates Seth Myers and Andy Samberg. She gushed at the party:
“I’m having one of those days today where I’m like, ‘How did I get here? What’s happening. “It’s surreal.”
This very talented comic is not just relying on just her SNL fame. She’s optioning ‘Clown Girl‘ and will star in the film’s adaptation:
“I fell in love with that book before I was even a third of the way through. She (Monica Drake) is just such an interesting writer and I’ve fallen in love the material. I just hope I can do it justice.”
Enjoy!

Q & A: Why does SNL wait so long between new episodes?
So why does SNL wait so long between new episodes?
They have gaps because the cost per episode is too high. Lorne was told to cut costs (fire people) or cut episodes. He chose to cut episodes.
For example, on SNL there are currently (as of last season) 8 men and 4 women, totaling 12 cast members (although Seth is only in the Update segments). Like this...
Fred Armisen
Will Forte
Bill Hader
Seth Meyers - Update Anchor
Andy Samberg
Jason Sudeikis
Kenan Thompson
Kristen Wiig
Abby Elliott - Featured Player
Bobby Moynihan - Featured Player
Nasim Pedrad - Featured Player
Jenny Slate - Featured Player
This setup is very different than when the show started, because Lorne recognized (over time) that he needed lots of people in order to have an organic cast where anybody could leave one season and he could fill in the gaps with the large cast and find new players organically.
He learned this because the original season of players was 6 men and 3 women, totaling 9 people:
Dan Aykroyd
John Belushi
Chevy Chase
George Coe
Jane Curtin
Garrett Morris
Laraine Newman
Michael O'Donoghue
Gilda Radner
In the second season, Lorne cut some of the fat and was left with 4 men and 3 women (Bill Murray was hired to replace Chevy Chase), totaling just 7 people:
Dan Aykroyd
John Belushi
Jane Curtin
Garrett Morris
Bill Murray - First episode: 01.15.1977
Laraine Newman
Gilda Radner
That was working well, but then Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi left the show after the 1978-1979 season, leaving Lorne to frantically feature the writers to fill the gaps. However, the next season the rest of the original cast was also ready to leave, and Lorne wasn't very prepared for that. The producers and executives lost faith in Lorne (without the original cast + Murray, the show had no fan base), and they replaced Lorne and the full cast.
Needless to say, the producers came to their senses after a 5 years of trying to chase the dream that SNL was originally, before they brought Lorne back and tried again.
When Lorne came back in 1985, SNL was being carried by a few cast members who were on their way out (Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jim Belushi, Billy Crystal, Christopher Guest, and Martin Short) and a few cast members who had just left (Eddie Murphy, Joe Piscopo, and Harry Shearer), and so Lorne had a new cast and a new strategy. He hired the funniest comedians he could find (Jon Lovitz and Dennis Miller), and he hired comedians who were already proven and in films (Joan Cusack, Anthony Michael Hall, Robert Downey Jr, and Randy Quaid).
Reunited with his writers, this gave Lorne a season to build up the new comedians and add more the next year in 1986 (Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, and Kevin Nealon). That gave Lorne a solid cast that he could build on in 1989 (Mike Meyers and Ben Stiller), 1990 (Farley, Sandler, Spade, Schneider, Chris Rock), 1993 (Norm MacDonald, Jay Mohr, Sarah Silverman), and so on.
And so Lorne found a stronger strategy in building up a larger cast so that he wasn't betting as big on players that didn't work out and so that he could lose a few players when they wanted to leave and then still keep the ball rolling on the show.
So he realized the larger staff keeps the show moving forward. However, it also means that the show gets too expensive, which is why they don't have as many episodes as we'd like them to.
It's debatable whether or not the show is as funny as it once was, and to be honest, my favorite time was when Will Ferrell, Molly Shannon, and Chris Kattan were on. However, I definitely prefer the current cast over when Dratch, Fallon, Sanz, Rudolph, and Parnell were running the show. I remember watching the great cast led by Will Ferrell and then they kept adding these players who weren't funny and I was like, "What are they doing? They're killing the show!" Well the show survived, and each of them had a moment or two where they were hilarious, and they kept it alive for current players like Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, and Andy Samberg to take over.
I have faith in newcomers Abby Elliott, Bobby Moynihan, Nasim Pedrad, and Jenny Slate (although Jenny still has more to prove). I don't think the current cast is anxious to leave, mostly because they have nowhere to go. Kristen Wiig has lined up the critical starring role (in her upcoming Bridesmaid film, produced by Judd Apatow), and it looks like Andy's got an upcoming shot with The F-Word movie. Plus Andy has a potential career with The Lonely Island either in making more music, their own TV show, or their own movie.
Will Forte is making a critical attempt at leading a film with MacGruber (since The Brothers Solomon didn't work). Bill Hader has had a lot of success, but he still needs to line up a starring role. Armisen, Thompson, and Sudeikis are probably going to retire from SNL to do voices and supporting roles for the rest of their careers (but I think Sudeikis might be landing a lead role in The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, and he seems to be having success in supporting roles like Hader; he's just a few years behind Hader).

3 Current SNL Characters That Need Their Own Movie?
This past weekend, Will Forte's MacGruber became the next in a long line of Saturday Night Live characters that have made the jump from short sketch to full length movie. Some, like The Blues Brothers and Wayne's World were wildly successful while others, not so much. Can you say, SUPERSTAR!
Hit or miss, there's no doubt that studios are already studying recent episodes of Saturday Night Live looking for the next big thing. Let's pray they stay away from Kenan Thompson's "What's Up with That" and head more toward these top three characters that would make a great SNL movie.
3. Lorenzo MacIntosh's (Kenan Thompson) Sacred Straight program would be perfect on the big screen considering the fact that all of his horror stories are already taken from blockbuster action flicks.
2. "The Two A-Holes" Jason Sudeikis and Kristen Wiig) would be just the ticket for a "Real Housewives" mockumentary movie. Right, babe? Don't you think so, babe?
1. Laser Cats are Go! Andy Samberg and Bill Hader have already done most of the work with their series of digital shorts for SNL. String together the pieces and you've got a parody scifi movie that can finally beat that cat playing piano video on YouTube. Hear that? That's the sound of James Cameron clearing his calendar.

Nooooo!!! No Lorenzo and no A-Holes!!! You've got to be kidding me!

Lazy Pirate Day
So the real irony behind this is that this is a parody of Andy Samberg's "Lazy Sunday," in a movie, and that it features Darrell Hammond as Captain Jack Swallow (Darrell worked on SNL and worked with Andy) and Kal Penn, who used to do a lot of Internet videos with The Lonely Island. So here are two of Andy's friends spoofing his song in a film. Good times...
WARNING: Sexual stuff like crazy.

Andy Samberg - Only one more SNL season left?
So next season will be Andy's sixth SNL season left, and the last season on his original contract.
Will next season be the last season of SNL for Andy Samberg?
Andy really doesn't have a ton of movie offers, and so there isn't a lot for him to leave to do.
Still, he has a few legitimate options...
- Start a TV show with TLI
- Sign a new contract with SNL and continue for a few more seasons
- Band together with TLI, and focus on pitching movies for them to star in
- Hook up with one of his famous friends and find a sweet movie project (Justin Timberlake, Meagan Fox, Shia Lebeouf, Ellen Page)
============
Also, what is he going to do this summer?
He's been taking it easy a lot, spending his time doing a college tour instead of filming movies or doing big projects.
Perhaps TLI will band together this summer and record a follow up to last year's hit album (and all the resulting music videos), Incredibad. I'd say of all the things Andy and TLI have done, Incredibad was their biggest success and the biggest project that led them to fame and popularity (namely Ji$$ in My Pants, I'm on a Boat, and Like a Boss made TLI famous). Following it up would make the most sense.

Andy Samberg - Digital Short: Great Day
Something in the air says it's gonna be a great day!
Film: SNL Digital Short - A Great Day
Alec Baldwin
Tom Petty
Fred Armisen ... boss
Danielle Flora ... dancer
Bill Hader ... guy
Bobby Moynihan ... Fred
Nasim Pedrad ... girl
Andy Samberg ... Dennis
Jorma Taccone ... friend
Wow, totally an Andy and Jorma written skit. Reminds me a little of the Awesometown intro and the song and dance part of Hot Rod (before the riots).
Is it just me, or does the animated, evil Andy/Dennis look a lot like Will Ferrell?
It''s also interesting to note that this short was played earlier than usual, right after the monologue.
Enjoy!

Fred Armisen ... boss
Danielle Flora ... dancer
Bill Hader ... guy
Bobby Moynihan ... Fred
Nasim Pedrad ... girl
Andy Samberg ... Dennis
Jorma Taccone ... friend
Wow, totally an Andy and Jorma written skit. Reminds me a little of the Awesometown intro and the song and dance part of Hot Rod (before the riots).
Is it just me, or does the animated, evil Andy/Dennis look a lot like Will Ferrell?
It''s also interesting to note that this short was played earlier than usual, right after the monologue.
Enjoy!

Andy Samberg thinks Betty White is wonderful (video interview)
Check out Andy in this interview:
"SNL" player Andy Samberg told MTV News that he and the show's crew had gone into overdrive with possible skits for the golden girl. "She's incredible, expect great things," he said. "I have no hesitation in saying that she's wonderful."
After the gala, Samberg said he would book it over to the 30 Rock studios, where cast and writers were set to begin brainstorming ideas for White. "It's Tuesday night ... so we're going to be writing everything tonight," he said. "I hope to [be in a sketch with her]."
What of White's desire to share the stage with that night's musical guest, Jay-Z? Samberg didn't rule it out: "I mean, who wouldn't? It's Jiggaman!"

Andy Samberg - The F-Word (new movie)
Director: Alex Holdridge (this would be his first big movie)
Writer: Elan Mastai (screenplay; she also wrote Most Valuable Primate and Alone in the Dark)
Synopsis: A story of a young man and woman who struggle to navigate their friendship, which has developed a deep romantic undercurrent.
STARRING:
Andy Samberg ... Wallace (rumored)
Andy would be the first actor cast (assuming the rumors pan out). If so, this would be his first starring role in a film since Hot Rod in 2007 and Space Chimps (voice only) in 2008.
By the way, the F word is "friend" in this case. =^)

Will Justin Timberlake appear in a digital short in the SNL Season finale?
'Saturday Night Live': Justin Timberlake to make special appearance in finale?
Is Justin Timberlake going to wrap up the 2009-2010 "Saturday Night Live" season with a special digital short? We certainly hope so.
The New York Post is reporting that backstage at Broadway musical "Memphis," Justin Timberlake "was overheard telling cast members he had just come from taping a secret segment for ['Saturday Night Live']."
Timberlake is infamous for his hysterically funny digital shorts with Andy Samberg "D*** in a Box" and "Motherlover." We're also fans of his various two-guys-on-the-street-singing-at-passersby skits where he promotes places like Omeletville and Plasticville. And who can forget his "Single Ladies" dance for Beyonce?
We hope this rumor is true because whatever it is is bound to be an excellent sketch. The season finale of "SNL" airs Saturday, May 15 and will be hosted by Alec Baldwin and feature musical guest Tom Petty.

Digital Short: Betty White's Golden Girls Theme
Hilarious! The entire cast and the lady SNL grads band together for this spoof on the Golden Girls theme:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/09/betty-white-goes-metal-fo_n_569275.html
We'll probably have an embedded version later.
SNL Digital Short: Thank You For Being A Friend
Betty White
Amy Poehler
Ana Gasteyer
Maya Rudolph
Molly Shannon
Rachel Dratch
Tina Fey
Fred Armisen
Abby Elliott
Will Forte
Bill Hader
Bobby Moynihan
Nasim Pedrad
Andy Samberg
Jenny Slate
Jason Sudeikis
Kenan Thompson
Kristen Wiig
Kristen looks cute in her real hair.
Jenny's look at Kenan is also pretty cute. Andy gives his signature laugh.
Abby is still smiling when the craziness first kicks in. Then, later, Amy is laughing when she shouldn't.
Andy introduces it. The Lonely Island obviously wrote this craziness that gives reference to pop culture (their trademark humor).
What do you think?

Andy Samberg in Bronx Beat (Betty White)
Mother is up from Florida with her Yoga instructor. A Betty White Dress Rehearsal Exclusive.
With all these great guest actresses on board (Betty White, Rachel Dratch, Tina Fey, Ana Gasteyer, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, and Molly Shannon), there are bound to be some amazing dress rehearsals cut from the show.
Andy was in one of those, a new Bronx Beat.
Is Amy preggers again? It's good to see Maya around again. She hasn't been super active since she left.
Betty looks great when she's all dressed up like this.
Andy's the yoga instructor.

Andy Samberg in Scared Straight (5/8/10)
Keeping kids out of trouble goes old school.
Betty White ... Loretta McIntosh
Bill Hader ... kid
Bobby Moynihan ... kid
Andy Samberg ... kid
Jason Sudeikis ... Officer Sikorsky
Kenan Thompson ... Lorenzo McIntosh
Hahahaha. Betty White makes Hader laugh and then comes back in at the end.
Andy doesn't seem to crack in this one, although Bobby does briefly and Hader does majorly.
Andy has been in all six of these skits, starting on 05.10.2008 with Shia LaBeouf.
==================
This is it for Andy this week. He was also in the digital short that isn't online.

Was Andy's Mort Mort the best skit of the Ryan Phillippe episode?
Our favorite skit of the night was Andy Samberg as Mort Mort Feingold, Accountant to the Stars. Kristen Wiig did a dead-on impression of Kate Gosselin's bizarre stroke-face and Phillippe wasn't a terrible Robert Pattinson, either -- we barely recognized him.

And, for the cherry on top, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers will be playing as the musical guest.

SNL players gush about Justin Bieber
How did Justin Bieber fare on Saturday Night Live last weekend? According to the show's stars, the young singer – and PEOPLE's recent cover boy – is a natural comedian.
"That guy is a force of nature," head writer – and Weekend Update anchor – Seth Meyers told PEOPLE at "An Evening with Saturday Night Live," presented by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in New York. "He was really focused on doing a good job. We saw [during rehearsals] that he'd be able to handle a lot."
Bieber – who performed as a musical guest and also appeared in a sketch in which host Tina Fey played a teacher who lusts after her young student – showed his considerable comic chops, impressing executive producer Lorne Michaels who called him a "complete pro."
Said Michaels: "How cool was he? Whatever we threw at him – particularly that teacher's sketch – they were changing it right up to air and they'd go right into his dressing room, tell him the changes and he'd hit them."
And Michaels wasn't the only one impressed with the teenage pop sensation. SNL castmates Bill Hader, and Kenan Thompson also got caught up in Bieber-mania.
"He's a confident kid," says Hader. "That guy definitely doesn't hold back, which I was really impressed with. If I was as confident at that age, my life would've been a lot easier."
Thompson told PEOPLE he immediately bonded with Bieber over their Atlanta connection.
"He was talking to me about Atlanta because I'm from Atlanta and he lives there," Thompson said. "He asked, 'You know how to do the Atlanta handshake?' And I'm like, 'Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's cool.' "
"He's a ball of energy," the comedian continued. "He's a cool young 16-year-old kid who is on top of the world."
How did Bieber land the prime spot on the show in the first place?
Said Michaels: "I have a 12-year-old daughter. First you see the poster go up [in her room] and you start to pay attention after that."
