Donny's Boy - Harpest on Set
Katie Lynch Koglin is the Cape’s go-to harpist for special occasions. She’s performed at two funerals already this week, and she’s no stranger to weddings. In fact, earlier this month, the Cotuit-based Kolgin played at a wedding rehearsal dinner for “Saturday Night Live” star Andy Samberg and “Gossip Girl” actress Leighton Meester. The stars of the comedy “Donny’s Boy,” which is still filming on Cape Cod, get married in the film and Kolgin was hired to play as the actors shot the pre-wedding dinner scene at the Wychmere Harbor Club. Kolgin was quick to tell us that, technically, she didn’t play a note while the cameras were rolling. The movie’s music department chose a score -- Puccini and Rachmaninoff -- that will be mixed into the film. So Kolgin played along silently. “I had to match the recording that they were going to use,” Kolgin told us.
Kolgin said she was impressed that producers made the effort to find a real harp player to fake a performance in the scene. Usually, when she sees harp players in movies and on television, their hand gestures don’t match the music. “I look up and go, ‘They’re not really playing,’” she said.
Kolgin said that almost all of the films big stars were on the set during her two days of work. She mimed the harp near Samberg and Meester as well as Adam Sandler, Will Forte, Tony Orlando, and Boston gal Rachel Dratch. “I spent a fair amount of time talking to Tony Orlando,” Kolgin said, with a giggle.
Kolgin also told us that one of the most memorable parts of the set was the smell. “Prop seafood, although real, is not eaten and develops a very strong odor by the end of the day (especially when the AC is turned off for filming due to sound and you add 100 people and lighting),” she told us yesterday via email. “Donny’s Boy” -- which used to be called “I Hate You Dad” -- will be released next year.

Note to filmmakers: make sure the prop food won't stink up the set.
I wonder why they didn't hire Joanna Newsom for this? =^)

Jimmy Fallon to host SNL (as he prophesied)
Well, we've been hoping and asking for it for awhile, and it's finally coming this season!
Not only is this video a hilarious peek at vintage Baldwin and Fallon, it also reveals something astonishing: Jimmy Fallon is clearly psychic.
During this 1998 Christmas video, Fallon, while playing the "ghost of host future," shows a reluctant Baldwin a world where he comes back to host the show as a SNL alum.
"Apparently," he says. "I become a huge star in the future, and I host the show in 2011."
And just like that, it came true.
Fallon is scheduled to host the show alongside crooner Michael Bublé only a few days after his December 17 prediction.
Creepy!
Take a minute and watch it for yourself, or if you're in a hurry, skip to 02:55.

Jimmy Fallon announced today that he's going to host the December 17 episode of Saturday Night Live, with musical guest Michael Buble. It marks Fallon's first time hosting since he left the show in 2004, but fans shouldn't be too surprised to see him back in Studio 8H — not only has he done cameos on the show here and there, but back in 1998, SNL itself announced he'd host right around then. As you can see in the video, Alec Baldwin's monologue from a season 24 episode predicts exactly this: That Jimmy Fallon, as the host of Christmas future in this Christmas Carol riff, will host in December 2011. Most people remember this episode for its Schwetty Balls, but perhaps its prescience will become its new calling card!

Will Adam Sandler get another hit with Donny's Boy?
If you think about it, Sandler currently has 12 hit films with over $100 million in the box office (which is why he makes a lot... he's the most consistent comedy star in Hollywood).
Let's take a look at the films he starred in and helped put together (just the US Gross)...
2/11/11 Just Go With It Sony $103,028,109
6/25/10 Grown Ups Sony $162,001,186
12/25/08 Bedtime Stories BV $110,101,975
6/6/08 You Don't Mess with the Zohan Sony $100,018,837
7/20/07 I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry Uni. $120,059,556
6/23/06 Click SonR $137,355,633
5/27/05 The Longest Yard Par. $158,119,460
2/13/04 50 First Dates Sony $120,908,074
4/11/03 Anger Management SonR $135,645,823
6/28/02 Mr. Deeds Sony $126,293,452
11/10/00 Little Nicky NL $39,464,775
6/25/99 Big Daddy Sony $163,479,795
11/6/98 The Waterboy BV $161,491,646
2/13/98 The Wedding Singer NL $80,245,725
2/16/96 Happy Gilmore Uni. $38,824,099
2/10/95 Billy Madison Uni. $25,588,734
==================
So Adam has had 12 hits that grossed over $100 million in the US alone. It took him three movies to get there, and his fourth (The Waterboy) was the one that finally got him there to stay. His one hiccup was Little Nicky, which was pretty bad.
Sandler's acted in many other films, but these are the ones that are distinctly his projects (Funny People is from Judd Apatow, and Sandler's Happy Madison wasn't involved). So after Wedding Singer, Adam Sandler has been 12 for 13. That's kind of amazing. He's also been making about one movie a year, since 1995.
So the question is whether this script and the actor lineup (including Andy Samberg) will keep this movie within Adam's awesome streak of hits. This movie isn't an obvious hit, because it's not about sports (like Happy Gilmore, Waterboy, and Longest Yard), and it doesn't have the star power of Drew Barrymore, Jack Nicholson, or Kevin James.
What do you think?

Andy Samberg urinates on a building with Adam Sandler and Vanilla Ice
So this is a story of an extra... but it gets to the urination part (a scene from Donny's Boy)...
===============
A night out with a movie extra
CAPE COD — Being an extra in a movie is not always as glamorous and exciting as one might think. It can be a long and tiring process as Georgianna Leonard of Mashpee found out when she was called to the set of the Adam Sandler comedy “I Hate You, Dad.”
Leonard was one of the nearly 9,000 aspiring actors who lined up at Barnstable High School on Memorial Day weekend to put in their applications as extras in the movie being filmed on Cape Cod this summer. “The casting call was the easiest part,” and very organized, Leonard said.
Despite the long line, it took less than an hour to submit her three photos and application to the Sande Alessi Casting of Los Angeles. The company’s staff told the applicants to “friend” its Facebook page to see what parts they were looking to fill...
Within a half hour of submitting her bid, she got a call to be the waitress in the scene and was asked to report to a bowling alley in Lynn at 9:30 the next night. Part of the film was still being shot in the Boston area in June.
The costumers immediately replaced the clothes she was told to bring with some gaudy clothes and jewelry and “they did something weird to my hair,” she said. Despite all the urgency to get ready, she and the other extras sat around and waited. To fill the time, she started recording the experience as a blog on her I-phone.
At 11 p.m., lunch break was announced, and they were all directed to a big tent where “the most fabulous buffet was set up,” Leonard said. “They really took care of us.”
Finally, into the early morning hours, the extras for the diner scene were called and transported in a van to a Lynn diner. At the small diner, the patrons were seated and Leonard and a chef from Sandwich were put behind the counter to practice their scene.
The scene involved three of the film’s stars, Sandler, Andy Samberg and Vanilla Ice, urinating together onto the side of the diner. The extras inside were instructed to look disgusted as they observed them. They mouthed the words, but had no real speaking parts, Leonard said, while the cameras shot the scene from outside through the diner window. She is right in the middle of the scene. The extras also had to fall to the ground and look shocked for another scene that will be added during editing, Leonard said.
“What was really neat,” she said, was looking out the window and seeing a sea of trucks, lights, actors and film crew, plus a big crowd watching the whole take. The scene was set up to take place in daytime, even though it was 3 a.m.
The short scene was shot six or seven times. The directors and film editors would go into a tent to view it, then come out and make adjustments, she said.
Leonard said most movie viewers don’t realize how perfect everything has to be for each take. For example, the directors kept adjusting the risers for a short patron to make sure she was at the right height for the camera.
“You don’t realize what goes into it,” Leonard said, but it helps to understand why movies cost so much to make.
Leonard and the other diner extras did get to see the three lead actors in action (though not actually urinating), but were told not to talk to them and the actors couldn’t talk to the extras because they were all working. However, she noticed that Sandler was talking to the crowd and signing autographs between takes.
The extras had other rules also. They weren’t allowed to have a phone or camera on the set or post anything on Facebook. One young man had his phone taken away, Leonard said.
The filming of Leonard’s scene ended about 4:30 a.m., and she headed back home to get a couple of hours of sleep before going into work...
Even though being an extra was a long and tedious process, Leonard said, “It was kind of neat to be a part of something that big. It was fun,” and she would go again if called...
She even got paid $168 for her first role and became a member of the Screen Actors Guild. She clearly has caught the acting bug.

===============================
So it's interesting what the extras get paid, that they shot the day scene at 3AM, and that the actors aren't supposed to talk to the extras (or vice versa), but they do talk to the crowd/fans. It's probably because that's more easily contained, but still, you'd think they'd have a time/place for the actors to go mingle with the extras for a few minutes at a time.
What do you think? Are you interested in watching Andy urinate with Adam and Vanilla Ice?

Andy Samberg impersonates Tennis Stars (for NY Times)
I've got to say that Andy looks so awesome as these tennis stars, that I want him to make a movie where he's impersonating all the major tennis stars (including women) who interact and play with each other in the movie.
At the very least, it would make a hilarious digital short!
The New York Times Magazine asked the photographer Walter Iooss Jr. and the comedian Andy Samberg to take a look back at several iconic men's tennis champions.
Thanks to SamJae for the scoop(s)!
What do you think? Good for a laugh, or should Andy do something more with this gag (a digital short, song, and/or film)?
Enjoy!

Did Adam Sandler (and Donny's Boy) dine and dash?
Adam Sandler denies restaurant`s claims he didn`t pay for meal
Movie star Adam Sandler has denied a restaurant's claims that he didn't pay for a meal there.
The actor is currently filming a new movie in Peabody, Massachusetts, and it's claimed in July his company Happy Madison Productions asked the restaurant, A Taste of Italy, to lay on a meal for the cast and crew.
According to TMZ, the owner did the meal and was paid for it but shortly after he alleged Happy Madison Productions asked him to buy in food for two BBQ's but they never came for it and he was left with $2,500 worth of food.
He insists Sandler's company refused to pay up so he put up a sign in his restaurant's window saying: 'ADAM SANDLER ATE HERE AND NEVER PAID.'
But a rep for Happy Madison Productions said they never asked for the catering for the BBQ's and that Sandler never ate at the restaurant.
From:
http://www.monstersandcritics.com/people/news/article_1656612.php/Adam-Sandler-denies-restaurant-s-claims-he-didn-t-pay-for-meal
The owner of A Taste of Italy in Massachusetts claims Sandler's company, Happy Madison Productions, made a deal with him to cater for two big BBQs following a meal at the restaurant.
But the big meals never happened and he was left $2,500 (£1,500) out of pocket, prompting him to slap a poster on his shop window, stating, 'Adam Sandler ate here and never paid'.
However, representatives for The Wedding Singer star, who is currently filming nearby, tell TMZ.com that no promises were made to the restaurant owner. They also insist that Sandler never ate at A Taste of Italy.
http://www.hollywood.com/news/Sandler_caught_up_in_restaurant_dispute/7827856
===============================
So, it seems that the owner's sign wasn't true... Sandler never ate there when filming Donny's Boy. It does seem the the production crew hired them to cater once. It also seems like they might have mentioned the BBQs, because it says, "no promises were made", which sounds like discussions were made.
So either the restaurant owner misunderstood, got ahead of himself (tried to push them into it), or Happy Madison did actually make the promise and then back out.
Who knows?
Either way, it seems that Sandler and the actors (including Andy Samberg) weren't involved.
Enjoy!

Donny's Boy films at Wychmere Beach Club
Wychmere Beach Club, a true jewel in Harwich Port's crown:
At the entrance to Wychmere Harbor in Harwich Port, marked by a sturdy stone jetty, is a graceful wide swath of sandy beach, one of the few accreting beaches on the Cape and growing at a rate of up to seven feet a year. Beyond the beach is the confluence of all that is Cape Cod: Catboats swinging with the tide, the hustle and bustle of Harwich Port Boat Yard, and just across the channel, the elegant Wychmere Beach Club-mid-stride in its renaissance as a world-class exclusive private club and venue for chic weddings, catered events and corporate gatherings...
Extras arrive before shooting at the Wychmere Beach Club:
No doubt, Columbia Pictures, Sandler and his cast of primetime co-stars Susan Sarandon, James Caan, Andy Samberg ("Saturday Night Live"), Leighton Meester ("Gossip Girl") and singer Tony Orlando-all on hand for filming-were highly organized yesterday, as well as star-struck natives, some of whom watched at a distance as actors prepped for shoots or chilled on an outside deck awaiting the director's call.
In the movie, according to published reports, Sandler plays a loser used hot-tub salesman whose son-after becoming wealthy, then engaged-informs everyone that his parents are dead. Sandler, in obvious need of money, shows up at the wedding rehearsal dinner, filmed at the Harbor House, and correctly discerns that his son's fiancée is a gold digger. The denouement is exceedingly entertaining.
It is clear the movie has struck gold with the locals. Bring it on, says Harwich Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sandy Davidson, who was interviewed overlooking the set by Kimberly Bookman, reporter for WCVB, Channel 5 in Boston. The filming has attracted a spate of local, regional and national press, interviewing star-struck residents and visitors. Davidson told Bookman, in essence, that all boats rise with the tide in Harwich and when Hollywood comes knocking, the ebb and flow crests in a moon tide of blessings.
Wychmere Harbor Club:
The movie, she boasts, has spawned largesse to the town in terms of ancillary revenues at a time when the nation was reeling from the threat of a national default. Columbia Pictures has paid the town $28,000 to use town-owned sites, including a nearby church and Saquatucket Harbor to park large equipment and production trucks. More than 150 extras were hired for the shoot (many from a casting call at Barnstable High School), and all the excitement has brought in scores of new visitors to Harwich Port, which offers some of the Cape's best restaurants, shopping and galleries.
While security has been tight on the set, onlookers at a distance have seen the stars, and wide-eyes and smiles are proof of that. There have been friendly waves from the cast and a few callouts.
Manager as movie extra
"The filming has been great for Wychmere and the town," says Wychmere's asset manager Tony Guthrie, who previously oversaw impressive renovations and repositioning at Chatham Bars Inn and Wequassett Resort and Golf Club in East Harwich. Guthrie even made it onto the movie set as an extra. "It was amazing just to be there in the front row, watching the direction and filming," he says. Look for Guthrie months from now in a theater near you...

Okay, so we start to get more info about the plot here. Adam is washed up, Andy is successful (and rich), and Leighton is digging for gold.
Sounds great!
How well do you think Andy will play this character? Will he be funny or just a straight man for Adam to play off of?
Enjoy!

Enjoy!

Ode to Sesame Street celebrities (and Andy Samberg?)
What with the announcement we made that Andy Samberg will appear on Sesame Street (not to mention Bert previously interviewing Andy), we want to share some of our favorite celebrity moments on Sesame Street...
Let's start with Ricky Gervais' lullaby to Elmo:
Sometimes Ricky Gervais (creator of the British version of The Office) hits comedy gold with his British "annoying" style of humor.
Next comes Adam Sandler, and his silly humor works well for kids (maybe a little over their heads)...
Adam and Andy will star together in I Hate You Dad.
Next comes the cute bit with Natalie Portman:
Andy and Natalie's collaboration was of course, Natalie's Rap, which is a far cry from Sesame Streeet.
Next is Jake Gyllenhal, who is separating himself from an octopus:
Jake and Andy did a few things together. Jake appeared in "I Ran So Far" and opposite Andy's Nicholas Cage.
And here's Jack Black talking about octagons:
Andy collaborated with Jack Black on a song, when Jack hosted SNL (Glirk sketch), and Jack also appeared in Awesometown, Andy's pilot show before he got on SNL.
And here Elmo almost upstages Ellen with the lollipop joke (but Ellen saying "Elll..." for a long time was kind of funny):
Ellen is one of Andy's comedic heroes. He first met Ellen when he wrote a line for her to present on the MTV Movie Awards. Then he appeared on her talk show. He lost the 2011 Teen Choice comedy award to her this year (but obviously a worthy win).
Do you have any favorite celebrity appearances on Sesame Street?
Would it be interesting to see Andy do Shy Ronnie on Sesame Street? =^)
Enjoy!

From "I Hate You Dad" to "Donny's Boy"
I think "Donny's Boy" sounds a little like their previous production, "Grandma's Boy," which flopped because it starred Allen Covert (it was funny though). However, most people don't even know that film exists...
==================================
Sandler movie gets a new name
“I Hate You, Dad,” the Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg comedy that’s filming in Osterville, has a new name: “Donny’s Boy.” We got word about the title change today, and we have to admit, “Donny’s Boy” is a bit catchier (and certainly less confrontational) than “I Hate You, Dad.” We assume that the new title means that Sandler’s character will be named Donny. The New Hampshire-bred actor is set to play Samberg’s grouchy father in the film, which co-stars Leighton Meester, Vanilla Ice, and Susan Sarandon. This isn’t the first Boston movie that’s had a big name change. “Knight & Day,” the blockbuster starring Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise, was called “Wichita” and “Trouble Man” before director James Mangold settled on its final title.

Shark Week Ratings
With a little help from Andy Samberg, Discovery’s Shark Week got off to one of the annual programming event’s best Sunday night numbers ever.
Shark Week opened to 3.3 million viewers its first hour for Great White Invasion and 3.0 million for Jaws Comes Home at 10 p.m. The opening block was down slightly in viewership from last year. Among adults 18-49, Jaws was the No. 2 program on cable last night behind HBO’s True Blood.
Discovery is particularly proud of its strong female demos last night since Shark Week hasn’t historically been much a draw among women.
What’s really impressive about this is that this week marks the 24th year Discovery has aired Shark Week and it’s still going strong. The network also made a smart choice by tapping Samberg as host to put a familiar face on the week.

Musical Guests in the first two episodes of SNL Season 37
We haven't mentioned who the musical guests would be yet...
'Saturday Night Live' Premieres September 24 with Alec Baldwin & Radiohead
UPCOMING SHOWS: October 1 - Melissa McCarthy/ Lady Antebellum
"Saturday Night Live," NBC's Emmy Award winning late-night comedy showcase, opens its 37th season with four consecutive shows.
On September 24, Alec Baldwin returns as host for his record-setting 16th appearance. Baldwin has won two Emmy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, five SAG Awards and a Television Critics Association Award for his turn on NBC's critically-acclaimed series "30 Rock." Baldwin garnered a 2004 Academy Award nomination for his role in "The Cooler."
Radiohead returns for their second appearance as musical guest. Universally considered one of the most innovative and influential bands in existence, Radiohead's music has consistently topped charts and left audiences breathless. The three-time Grammy Award winning band recently released their newest album, "The King Of Limbs."

Melissa McCarthy will make her debut appearance as host on October 1. McCarthy currently stars in the CBS sitcom "Mike & Molly," for which she recently earned her first Emmy Award nomination. She also appeared in this summer's box office blockbuster "Bridesmaids" alongside "SNL's" Kristen Wiig.
Making their SNL debut, Lady Antebellum's third album, "Own The Night" is scheduled for release September 13, and is already garnering attention with their chart-topping single, "Just a Kiss." The six-time Grammy Award winning trio's past albums have reached double and triple platinum status and spawned several number one hits, including "Need You Now."
"Saturday Night Live" is produced in association with Broadway Video. The creator and executive producer is Lorne Michaels.

Andy Samberg to appear on Sesame Street
Stars Flock To "Sesame Street"
PBS's "Sesame Street" is bringing in the celebrities for its 42nd season, which kicks off September 26. The Hollywood Reporter has learned Emma Stone, Andy Samberg, Seth Rogen, Robin Williams, Amy Adams, Nicole Kidman, Mark Ruffalo, Mila Kunis and Sofia Vergara will all be appearing, among others. We can only imagine the types of skits these talents will have on the children's show.
From:
http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2011/08/09/gerard-butler-the-bricklayer/
It’s season 42 of Sesame Street come Sept. 26 (check your local listings), and the guest list could not be hotter.
Among those on tap: Oscar winners Nicole Kidman and Robin Williams; up-and-coming actresses Emma Stone, Mila Kunis, and Amy Adams; Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Rico Rodriguez; Community’s Joel McHale and Ken Jeong; The Office’s John Krasinski; late night hosts Craig Ferguson, Jimmy Kimmel, and Conan O’Brien; musicians Elvis Costello and Bruno Mars; The Daily Show’s Samantha Bee and Jason Jones; The Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki; funny guys Seth Rogen and Andy Samberg...
The new season focuses on a STEM curriculum, an acronym for science, technology, engineering and math.
Hopefully, the celebs joining in on the fun are a little bit nerdy; this season will focus in on math and science, part of the nation's push to emphasize those subjects.
A sample sketch, per the press release: “Telly, Elmo and Rosita are playing Shape-O-Bots, robots that transform into shapes to help people. Andy, a guy in need of shapes, played by Andy Samberg, rushes in several times and asks the group to transform into octagons, triangles, pentagons and rhombuses!” I feel like that should involve a leotard, but it probably won’t.

Saturday Night Live: 5-Timers Club... what is it?
Saturday Night Live's Five Timer's Club is the group of performers who has either hosted or appeared as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live at least five times.
The club was first mentioned on SNL on December 8, 1990, during the opening monologue. Tom Hanks was making his fifth appearance as host, and the milestone became the subject of a sketch:
“Believe it or not, this is the fifth Saturday Night Live I have been lucky enough to host. Now, the first time you do the show, you can't believe you're here. You just can't believe it. Your head buzzes with excitement. The second time you do the show, it means you were funny enough to be asked back - and you're pushing a movie. The third time you do the show, the second time didn't go so well, and you have something to prove to yourself. The fourth time you do the show, you're just blatantly pushing a movie. But the fifth time you do the show is the most special time of all, because you get this.. [holds up a card] ..a membership card in the Five-Timers Club. Come with me.. [walks off the stage] I'm gonna give you a chance to look in on one of the most exclusive clubs in the world."
After Hanks gave his monologue, the show segued to a sketch featuring Hanks, Steve Martin, Elliot Gould and Paul Simon in the richly-appointed club. Martin and Gould were both 5-time hosts; Simon had only appeared as a host of SNL three times, but counting his multiple appearances as a musical guest, was said to be a member of the club.
Conan O'Brien, who at that time was a writer on SNL and not a well-known public figure, was the doorman of the Five-Timers Club in the original skit.
The Five Timer's Club has been mentioned again after the following hosts reached the mark: Danny DeVito (in 1993), Alec Baldwin (1994), John Goodman (1994), Christopher Walken (2001) and Drew Barrymore (2007). A similar sketch was part of Alec Baldwin's November 11, 2006 show. The sketch, featuring Baldwin and Steve Martin, took place in the "Platinum Lounge", which allowed only 12-time hosts, and forbid working cast members from entry.
So here are the members of the 5-timer club, listed by the most appearances:
Steve Martin - 15 host
Alec Baldwin - 15 host
John Goodman - 12 host
Paul Simon - 12 total (3 host/ 1 host & musical guest/ 8 musical guest)
Buck Henry - 10 host
Dave Grohl - 10 musical guest
Tom Hanks - 8 host
Chevy Chase (SNL Alumnus) - 8 host
Tom Petty - 8 musical guest
Christopher Walken - 7 host
Randy Newman - 6 musical guest
Elliott Gould - 6 host
James Taylor - 6 musical guest
Danny DeVito - 6 host

Candice Bergen - 5 host
Bill Murray (SNL Alumnus) - 5 host
Dave Matthews - 5 musical guest
Jon Bon Jovi - 5 total (1 host/ 4 musical guest)
Eminem - 5 musical guest
Justin Timberlake - 5 total (2 host/ 2 host & musical guest/ 1 musical guest)
If you'd like more information and the list of dates that these folks first appeared as a host or musical guest, last appeared as a host or musical guest, and the date they joined the 5-timer club, click here (it also lists all the folks who are only one appearance away from getting in the Five-Timers Club):

In Andy-related thoughts, do you think Andy will ever host? First he needs to find success outside of SNL.

Andy Samberg lost the Teen Choice award. To ... his hero Ellen Degeneres...
http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2011/08/2011-teen-choice-awards-winners
Choice Comedian Award goes to Ellen Degeneres, beating out Daniel Tosh, George Lopez, Andy Samberg and Jimmy Fallon.
Andy was on Ellen's show and revealed his respect for her. He first met her when writing for the MTV Movie Awards. She presented, and he handed her the lines that he wrote with Akiva and Jorma. She looked at them, thought they were funny, and instantly made them a lot funnier by rewriting them a little. He remembered how he was impressed that she could do that.
So I'm sure he's fine losing that one. The Teens have spoken.
Also, Andy lost the Peoples Choice award before (to Fred; what an insult), but this was his first Teen Choice award nomination.
Enjoy!

Andy Samberg is coming back to SNL for Season 37 (EDitorial)
We're building a case (pretty cut and dry) that Andy is coming back this year!
---
Case 1: Here in this Podcast, Andy says he's returning:
http://hw.libsyn.com/p/3/3/2/3329fdea25cca87c/CBB_109_MAIN_EDIT_2.mp3?sid=b8e1c1dab26fa33537a88e3131d1598c&l_sid=20088&l_eid=&l_mid=2618165
Our post on the interview is here:
http://andysamberg.blogspot.com/2011/07/andy-samberg-interview-comedy-bang-bang.html
As SJCSC1 said, "It's a long interview, but I listened to it and the guy asked him if he was returning for next season and he said yes"
----
Case 2: Andy has said in past interviews information that would imply he has a 7 year contract on SNL (making this his last year under his initial contract)...
http://andysamberg.blogspot.com/2008/01/andy-samberg-has-7-year-contract-on-snl.html
http://andysamberg.blogspot.com/2009/09/andy-samberg-has-3-more-years-on-his.html
----
Case 3: Wikipedia makes it blatantly clear that everyone is returning for season 37, by piecing together all the Web information...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturday_Night_Live_(season_37)
In addition to Lorne saying "everyone will return" in a press conference, Bill, Seth, Jason, Andy, and Kristen (all the hottest stars, basically) have said they'd return in separate interviews.
--
Case 4: Here is that press conference where Lorne mentions everyone will return...
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/08/02/lorne-michaels-says-all-snl-cast-members-returning_n_916013.html
For the first time since 2009, no "Saturday Night Live" cast members will depart the show before the next season. According a tweet from TV critic Roger Catlin, executive producer Lorne Michaels made the announcement at the Television Critics Association press tour.
Michaels also added that he would hold auditions for new cast members the end of August. "SNL" featured player Jay Pharoah announced on Twitter that the premiere would be Sept. 24, although the tweet has since been removed.
========================
So Andy and pals are obviously coming back. It's also interesting that Lorne is holding more auditions in August. He might be looking for one or two last minute featured players to add. It sounds like he knows he's going to lose all his big brass for Season 38, and he wants to get as many potential stars in there as possible.
It seems that Andy, Bill, Kristen, and Jason all signed to work through Season 37. So all four will likely leave for Season 38, especially since...
1. Andy Samberg is booking starring films opposite Adam Sandler (I Hate You Dad) and Rashida Jones (Celeste and Jesse Forever), and he could easily do another album or show.
2. Kristen Wiig hit big with her first starring role turning into a blockbuster (Bridesmaids), and she's already lined up Friends with Kids and Imogene (she's producing and starring in the latter).
3. Jason Sudeikis was off to a bumpy start when starring in Owen Wilson's Hall Pass, but he's proved he can hit gold by starring opposite Jason Bateman in Horrible Bosses. (He needs to follow it up quick.)
4. Bill Hader has the most successful supporting film career of the cast, and he's got his first starring role lined up in 2013's Skeleton Twins, opposite Anna Farris (Andy is in her "What's Your Number?" this year).
5. Seth Meyers is a little behind in the film world (he's racking up some supporting roles), so he wrote his own starring role in Key Party (2013). If his film career doesn't pan out, he can "retire" into a talk show host for as long as he wants.
And then Fred and Kenan are getting stale, but they can also pick up supporting TV roles when Lorne's ready for them to leave (Fred is voicing Brainy Smurf and can pick up other TV and supporting roles since it looks like Portlandia might not be working out). Lorne will probably ask them to stay (and they probably will, since SNL is their biggest thing) for a year to three after the big guns leave (Andy, Kristen, Jason, and Bill).
That leaves the future of SNL squarely on the shoulders of Bobby Moynihan, Abby Elliott, and newbies: Jay Pharoah, Taran Killam, Paul Brittain, and Vannessa Bayer. Jay has the biggest potential, if he can learn to build out more characters. Second is Taran if he can be more aggressive getting his characters and impressions on air (it seems like he and Lorne are waiting for the others to leave to feature Taran more by necessity). Paul also has a lot of potential. Vanessa and Jay shone bright their freshman year due to their impressions (Vanessa's Miley was the biggest).
However, Abby and Vanessa aren't enough of a woman team, especially since Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, and Kristen Wiig shone so bright).
So I can see how Lorne's thinking of the future. He's likely targeting funny woman (something he's been focusing on for years, thus the high turnover of ladies lately). He might do well to bring back Michaela Watkins as well as bringing on a new woman(especially in Wiig's absence).
What do you think is going to happen?
Enjoy!

Q & A: How much does Andy Samberg get paid on SNL?
UPDATED: Originally posted on 6/1/10. We added the guesstimate for his annual income from SNL.
===============
Well, let's say that he's making a lot less than the $70,000 he's been getting paid to do college performances and interviews and less than what they're probably paying him (per day) for hosting Shark Week.
======
According to the Jay Mohr book "Gasping for Airtime," former SNL cast member Jay Mohr said that his starting salary on SNL was $5,500 per week, plus $1,500 per week for a writing credit. The next year's salary was $6,500 per week (or $8000 with the writing credit) up to $12,500 per week for a fifth year tenured performer.
As of 2001, Will Ferrell held the record for the highest salary for an SNL cast member at $350,000 for the year, or $17,500 an episode.
======
Given that it's 2010 and not 1995 (Jay Mohr) or 2001 (Will Ferrell), the average is probably higher and closer to $7 or $8,000 now.
Seeing how Andy's been on for 5 years, and the 5th year salary in 1995 was $12,500 per episode, my guess is that Andy's getting about $16 or $17,000 per episode. At the end of season 37, Andy's original contract will be up, and he could negotiate to raise his salary significantly.
Based on the guess that he's making about $16K per episode, and Season 36 of SNL had 22 episodes, Andy's probably making somewhere around $352K per year on SNL (pre tax). That's pretty good (of course), but compare that to getting $70K per night in doing a show, and there's not much to compare.
Plus the writing credit might be up to $2 or $3,000 per episode now (but Andy's not a writer; he hasn't cared enough about that).
The reason why we only have old data is that it usually takes a ridiculously high negotiation to get it leaked to the press (like Will Ferrell's) or a star to be a little frustrated (Jay Mohr) and willing to divulge the secrets. (That said, Jay Mohr is on good terms with Lorne now, and I think Lorne was actually in the right at the time... Jay wasn't that big of an asset to the show; his comedy has gone on to mature more over time.)

Alec Baldwin and Melissa McCarthy to host SNL!
Alec Baldwin and Melissa McCarthy Sign On for SNL
Saturday Night Live's 37th season is already shaping up to be a riot!
The late-night comedy show is guaranteed at least a few laughs when new episodes hit the air this fall, thanks in large part to funny folks Alec Baldwin and Melissa McCarthy, who will take on hosting duties.
And one of these two jokesters is setting an SNL record…
RELATED: So True? So False? Is Alec Baldwin Going to Run for Mayor of NYC?!
Alec, of course! The Peacock has confirmed that the eldest Baldwin will be returning to 30 Rockefeller Plaza to host the season premiere on Sept. 24. And this stint on the show will officially earn him the title of hostest with the mostest—episodes, that is!
While Alec was previously tied with Twitter BFF Steve Martin for most times as guest host—each guy had the honor 15 times—his next appearance will give him the sole record.
The opposite goes for Melissa who will take the reins on the second episode of the season for her first time hosting. But if her scene-stealing turn in Bridesmaids proves anything, it's that the former Gilmore Girl won't have to rely on beginner's luck.
And if she gets nervous, she can always turn to pal and SNL veteran Kristen Wiig for a few pointers.
Now the only question is who the musical guests will be. Someone get Bieber on the phone, stat!
Read more: http://www.eonline.com/news/alec_baldwin_melissa_mccarthy_sign_on/256183#ixzz1UIhVRllb
But will Wiig and Samberg be there this season? That will change how the episodes turn out, obviously.
Thanks to Anony for the scoop!

Shark Week started in 1987
I thought this was interesting...
Samberg swims in ‘Shark Week'
Will Andy bring his flippy floppies?
Sharks, sharks, sharks. Need any other reason to watch Discovery Channel next week? OK. Andy Samberg hosts the 24th annual "Shark Week."
"Shark Week" kicks off Sunday with a look at how great whites are drifting closer to shores around the globe. On Thursday, chief shark officer Samberg swims with the sharks in the Bahamas in "Shark City."
Or maybe will disguise himself as an octopus:
"Shark Week" was born in 1987, when Discovery needed something to pop summer ratings. Sharks! What else? A week devoted to mongoose programming? An even better idea was hatched in '94: celebrity hosts. What did Heidi Klum(2003 host) have to do with hammerheads? Who cares?
Samberg should add the perfect touch of whimsy to an event that doesn't exactly scream "whimsical."
From:
http://www.statesman.com/news/nation/newsmakers-andy-samberg-hosts-shark-week-1671550.html
That's Andy... whimsy city. I didn't know that Shark Week was doing its thing for so long.
Enjoy!

Andy Samberg is hosting because Justin Timberlake passed?
Hey let's spread a rumor by making Andy's joke seem serious!
Check it out...
Saturday Night Live regular Andy Samberg is hitting the water to host the Discovery Channel's Shark Week 2011.
Samberg takes over as "Chief Shark Officer" on July 31.
When asked why he is suited for the role, Samberg said, "I think I'm Chief Shark Officer for obvious reasons. I love sharks. I'm a really bad swimmer. Justin Timberlake passed. What else? Mainly the third one."
Samberg is a Berkeley native. He graduated from Berkeley High School and went on to spend a few years at UC Santa Cruz before transferring to New York University.
From:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43911082
I believe we mentioned in an EDitorial that Andy always answers questions with jokes. It's because comedians feel pressure to be "on" and "funny" all the time. I've seen him when he's sick of it and isn't "on" like this, but that's pretty rare, and it's usually when he's talking to real people and not the press.
