Did Andy Samberg hit it right with The Tizzle Wizzle show?

ZOË RICE: Is the short sending up Yo Gabba Gabba here? I’ve never seen it, but I would imagine it’s something like this, and perhaps I would be struck more if I got the reference. I smiled by the time we got to knives and pills, and James Franco hit the right chord at the end. I’m not gushing about this short, but it’s okay.

HOWARD MEGDAL: It was also short enough to revel in the absurdity.

STEVE MURPHY: If every sketch was this funny, SNL would be the best show on TV. Way out there, surreal, fast, a single great idea done smoothly and well. Andy Samberg just gets it completely right sometimes.

I agree that this was great, and it wasn't a "normal" musical digital short, even though it relied on a song. This is further proof that TLI should get their own show.

What's your favorite Andy Samberg face?

Making the ugliest face you physically can for the amusement of others is a great move. We do it a lot when we’re little kids, but most of us tend to grow out of it eventually. It’s a shame, because even though making an ugly face is about as simple a “joke” someone can make, making ugly faces is a talent that should be celebrated regardless of age.

I’ve mentioned before that one of my favorite things about Andy Samberg is that he’s really, really good at making awesome and/or ugly faces. I don’t think Samberg’s a bad-looking guy by any means, but his exaggerated features enable him to twist his face in ways that would draw envy from even the most talented facial contortionists. When I think of guys who are great at making faces - which is somewhat of a lost “art” these days - I think of Jim Carrey, Bill Hader, and Andy Samberg. In terms of faces, Samberg probably cracks me up the most.

Next two hosts of SNL: Charles Barkley & Sigourney Weaver

"SNL" is back on Jan. 9 with former NBA star Charles Barkley as the host. The "round mound of rebound" is known now for his great sense of humor in commercials and on the golf course.

This won't be his first time hosting, either -- Barkley hosted the 1993 season premiere of "SNL" with musical guest Nirvana. Joining Barkley for his second go-round is musical guest Alicia Keys, hopefully performing new songs from her album "The Element of Freedom," which dropped on Dec. 15.

For the Jan. 16 show, "Avatar" star Sigourney Weaver joins studio 8H, along with musical guest The Ting Tings, who are nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy.

We have two requests -- "SNL" star Kenan Thompson does a mean Charles Barkley impression so we'd like to see that, please. And if there isn't a Sigourney Weaver "Ghostbusters" sketch, we are going to be extremely upset. We don't care if they already covered it when she hosted in 1986 -- we'd like to see it again.

Charles Barkley was a basketball player in the NBA (84-2000) on the 76ers, Suns, and Rockets. He was part of the US Olympic Dream Team in 92, and he led the US to Olympic gold again in 96. Now what Barkley is known for is being a studio analyst for TNT's NBA coverage. He also hosts the TNT show, Inside the NBA.

What do you think? Charles and Kenan would be funny. I know TLI could write a fun Ghostbusters skit for Sigourney. Of course, there's going to be an Avatar skit as well. What could Andy do with them?

Incredibad - Sidedown's #6 Album of 2009

#6 Album of 2009: The Lonely Island

What can I saw about Incredibad other than that I wish it was twice as long? The quality of parody/comedy music has never been this high.



As you likely know by now, The Lonely Island is Akiva Schaffer, SNL's Andy Samberg, and Jorma Taccone. Much of their music was written for the SNL Digital Shorts, which have easily been the best thing about Saturday Night Live over the last few years. Incredibad is not only hilarious but musically accessible, with high production values and a slew of ridiculous guests like Justin Timberlake, T-Pain, Natalie Portman, Jack Black, and more. Hearing Norah Jones sing about Chex Mix™ and mistaking a woman for a bag of trash is priceless.



The "classics" are on this album, including "Natalie's Rap" and "Lazy Sunday" (The Chronicle of Narnia)...

The album comes with a bonus DVD of some of the SNL shorts...

Hands down, this is the funniest album of the year, and I hope to hear more from The Lonely Island in the future.
