Sloppy weather meant fewer famous names roaming the grounds Saturday at the National Tennis Center, but Ben Stiller, wife Christine Taylor and "SNL's" Andy Samberg braved the drizzle for the early action pitting Rafa against Fernando Gonzalez.
"I have a spectator's interest in tennis, because my mom played when I was growing up," Samberg told us, from the dry confines of the Heineken Suite on Club Level, and that's "dry" in strictly the meterological sense. For Samberg, SNL's Master of Digital Shorts, it was the first-ever trip to the tennis center.
"Weekend Update" admirers were glad to learn recently that "SNL" plans more Thursday night editions of the recurring sketch. We asked Samberg if an extra "Update" would work without Sarah Palin to kick around anymore.
"We're gonna find out," he said, adding: "Sarah Palin's actually going to co-anchor with Seth."
With Amy Poehler enjoying full-time mommy-hood, we've sort of been wondering if anyone ever will partner with Seth Meyers, or if he'll handle "Update" duties solo.
"That's still undetermined," Samberg said. [Verified by Seth that he will continue solo this year.] "But Amy may swing by to help with the Thursday 'Updates.' She comes and hangs out anyway."
SNL's 35th season, with host Megan Fox and musical guest U2, premieres on Sept. 26.
So Andy Samberg presented an award to Beyonce (for best music video of the year; Andy and Beyonce gave each other a celebrity peck/kiss), and then Beyonce invited Taylor Swift up to take her time instead (Taylor is a huge fan of Andy Samberg) because Kanye West ruined her win (for best music vid featuring a female artist) by grabbing the mic and saying that Beyonce should have won (an act he had committed 3 years prior).
Didn't know that Kanye already did this? Observe...
The last time he did this was even better, at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2006. After his "Touch the Sky" video lost to Justice vs. Simian's "We Are Your Friends," he jumped up and grabbed the mike... and ranted that he deserved the award because his video "cost a million dollars and Pamela Anderson was in it."
Well, Pop Tarts learned that Swift was comforted by her friends and family immediately afterwards and was upset by the whole incident. An inside source told Tarts that West was asked by a big-wig at MTV to immediately leave the show. Pink also took to Twitter to confirm that Mr. West had been given his marching orders.
"Kanye west is the biggest piece of *h** on earth. Quote me," Pink tweeted. "My heart goes out to taylor swift. She is a sweet and talented girl and deserved her moment. She should know we love her. Beyonce is a classy lady. I feel for her too. It's not her fault at all, and her and taylor did their thing. And douche bag got kicked out. HA"
Taylor Swift is trying to keep the Kanye West flap from going on and on and on.
"I don't want to start anything because I had a great night," the 19-year-old told reporters backstage at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
...
"I was standing on stage because I was really excited because I had just won the award," Swift recalled. "And then I was really excited because Kanye West was on stage. And then I wasn't so excited anymore after that."
...
Beyonce won later in the night and gave Swift a chance to have the acceptance moment West ruined.
"They told me to stand by the side of the stage, and I didn't really know what was going to go down," Swift said. "But I thought it was so wonderful and gracious of her to do what she's always done. She's always been a great person before anything else. Before the talented artist, the superstar, she's always been a great person and I just, I thought I couldn't love Beyonce more tonight, than tonight."
...
Swift will get a chance to revisit the scene when she appears on ABC's "The View" tomorrow.
"I've been getting so many text messages and everybody's been really nice," Swift said. "So I've had a really, really fun night. It's been interesting definitely. It's definitely been an interesting night."
AKA she has a HUGE CRUSH on Andy Samberg, which is a pretty big compliment for Andy, seeing how this is Katy Perry:
Katy even told Andy she's crushing on him. So Andy, if you ever break up with this one (Joanna Newsom, current girlfriend)...
Then this one will be waiting in the wings (where does the phrase "in the wings" come from?)...

==================
If Andy Samberg were single, Kate Perry would so be trying to make him j**z in his pants.
The perky pop singer can't get enough of the Saturday Night Live funnyguy.
"Oh...my...! I just saw Andy Samberg," Perry, 24, stuttered to me on last night's VMA red carpet. "I know he's going out with someone, but he's so hot.
"Oh...my...," she said again. "I'm going to freak out. I'm already creaming in my panties. Oh my...!"
Ms. Perry finally did get to meet Samberg...
A source tells me that one of Perry's handlers introduced her to Samberg, 31.
"Katie was really cute. She was sort of speechless," the source said. "And then she was like, 'I have the biggest crush on you.' She turned so red."
Meanwhile, Perry said she'd love to do more guest judging on American Idol.
