NBC wouldn't show it on TV for some reason. Why? Was it too controversial? Defamer thinks so...
We'd like to take just a moment to officially append our 20 Fun Facts About Rahm Emanuel, Ari's power-broker brother who's expected to bring a little profane, alpha-male flair to the White House as Barack Obama's chief of staff. We'll call this Fun Fact #21: Was impersonated by Andy Samberg on Saturday Night Live in a skit eventually spiked by the show's producers, perhaps fearing it could overshadow any one of host Tim McGraw's own, more solemn stabs at comedy. OR for one of a couple of other reasons after the jump — where you'll find the clip as well.
Or maybe by the network, fearing the overindulgence of cursing, bleeped or not. Or maybe even by Samberg himself, fearing some Emanuelian turnabout for casting the Illinois representative as the boorish lout who would "strip [Joe Lieberman] naked and make you walk your McCain-loving-* back to Connecticut, you * turncoat." We'll likely never really know why the sketch was killed, but we favor the latter scenario, just for the potential for Emanuel to threaten to "crack that big * nose of his" while teasing an SNL guest appearance in the weeks ahead.

Was Andy Samberg's Rahm Emanuel too controversial?

Finesse Mitchell complains about Andy Samberg and the whole SNL experience
Back when he played football for the University of Miami Hurricanes, Finesse Mitchell was a friend and teammate of one Dwayne Johnson. Neither thought much of the other's non-gridiron prospects.
"He was very quiet," standup comic Mitchell says of the man who would become known as wrestling's The Rock. "He was quiet in the locker room, he was quiet walking around campus. He was dating a friend of mine, and everyone just described him as quiet.
"Our senior year, it became, 'What are we gonna do with our lives?' I remember I was at the barber shop with him, and I'd been kicked off the team 'cause of grades, and he had injury problems and (future NFLer) Warren Sapp had become the dominant force on defence ahead of Dwayne.
"So he said he was going to Canada to play football, and if that didn't pan out, he was going to go into wrestling. I said that was the dumbest thing I ever heard. I said I might do comedy. And he said, 'Comedy? You're not funny! That's the dumbest thing I ever heard.' "
Years later, they ran into each other at a party -- Johnson (who had briefly been a Calgary Stampeder) had just released The Scorpion King, and Mitchell had just joined Saturday Night Live.
"We just laughed and said, 'Congratulations!' " recalls Mitchell, who hosts the cross country Just For Laughs Comedy Tour, which hits the EPCOR Centre's Jack Singer Concert Hall tonight with Irish comics Danny Bhoy and David O'Doherty, Brit comic Hal Cruttenden and Canuck Pete Zedlacher.
Not that it was all clear-sailing at NBC for Mitchell. SNL had its ups and downs for the comedian, who was in the cast for three seasons, but was cut loose along with Horatio Sanz and Chris Parnell when the network slashed the show's budget.
"I think a lot of African-Americans, especially males, go in with ambitions and dreams of being Eddie Murphy and shining the way he did. When I got there, I got things that were very topical. Kobe Bryant had just cheated on his wife. Andre 3000 had the hottest song in the country, there was O.J., and I was doing this ghetto girl character Starkisha. So character-after-character in my first year, it seemed like just the most awesome place to work.
"And then the honeymoon's over, and it became more of a dogfight getting your sketch in. The more prominent players, the Amy Poehlers, the Rachel Dratches and Maya Rudolphs, y'know, everybody wanted their stage time. Then the new guys -- Andy Samberg, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader and Jason Sudeikis -- they came in with such strong characters and it got even harder."
With his departure from the show came another realization. He had to recapture his standup audience because "the homeys don't watch Saturday Night Live. I had lost a lot of my audience. I'd had a big huge BET (Black Entertainment Television) following, a popular guy on colleges. And when I got Saturday Night Live, I got snatched out of the black market and into the mainstream market. So people would hear through the grapevine, 'He's on SNL' and they'd be like, 'What? That show's still on?' "
Happily, Mitchell became busy in a hurry, re-amping his standup career, appearing in movies (The Comebacks, Mad Money, Who's Your Caddy?) and writing a relationship book for women -- Your Girlfriends Only Know So Much (from the publishers of He's Just Not That Into You) -- that led to a regular column in Essence magazine of male advice for women.
"Now I do a lot of daytime television talking about relationships," says Mitchell, who got married last month. "I'm doing the Today show all the time. I'm on the CBS Morning Show, I'll be on Tyra Banks. I'm also speaking at a women's conference for Essence magazine in front of 1,000 women."

Finesse is just complaining. I was glad when they took him out of SNL. Yeah, it's hard work, and you have to try to keep selling your characters, and you have to earn your stripes on SNL. But if you do it right, then you should have staying power and precedence over the newbies rather than being taken over by them.
Don't get me wrong, Finesse is a hilarious stand-up comedian. But acting isn't what Finesse does well. He doesn't do great characters like Eddie Murphy and the others. And Andy mostly just plays himself in hilarious videos. He doesn't have major characters like Will Ferrell did.
The second value of Andy Samberg is the little impressions he does. SNL obviously pushes the impressions to hit the news and politics (like Finesse mentioned). So if you don't come up with original characters and make fun of old film or stories, then they won't push you to do that. You've got to push it yourself.
So Andy, along with the rest of the staff, was pushed to do impressions rather than characters. And so Andy has really stepped up in that area, offering us Jack Johnson, the Swedish Chef, Cathy (from the comics), the Naked Guy on a Cell Phone, the Pregnant Man, Sanjaya, Diablo Cody, and Mark Whalberg.

Andy Samberg - Is Spending Thanksgiving with Seth Meyers
Andy Samberg & Seth Meyers at Saturday Night Live Party
Andy Samberg and Seth Meyers leave the Saturday Night Live after-party in New York City on November 22nd, 2008.
Andy is all for Hot Rod 2. =^)
Andy is doing what Seth is doing for Thanksgiving. Is Andy hanging out with Seth more now than his Lonely Island cohorts?
Andy refuses to do ten more autographs. That's right, Andy! He's not a fan; he's just going to eBay them!!!
BONUS: Bobby signs a bunch (let's see if he's still doing that in 3 years)...
BONUS: Here's Tim McGraw leaving the same party...
Country superstar and all-around-great-guy Tim McGraw, who is also the husband of singer Faith Hill, leaves the SNL after-party in New York City on the night he hosted Saturday Night Live, with musical guest Ludacris, the rapper. He says the show was great, and when asked "Did Ludacris teach you how to rap?" he replies "Uh. I think that's a hopeless cause, for me." Someone then asks him "Where's Faith tonight?" and he replies "She's heading to bed, I'm sure." Then an autograph seeker has Tim sign 2 guitars for him (after fumbling them, which you can hear in the background) and says "A little too much whiskey tonight." and Tim says "Yeah, well, there you go. It's a good night for it!"
Enjoy!

Andy Samberg - Is a Turkey that doesn't know what's happening (Turkey Day)
Turkey Chase / Turkey Day
Summary: A group of turkeys (Tim McGraw, Andy Samberg, Fred Armisen, Jason Sudeikis) outrun bullets before Thanksgiving.
Turkeys in the wild, running for their lives...
Note: This sketch was cut from the dress rehearsal of the episode hosted by Ludacris two seasons earlier.
Tim McGraw ... turkey
Fred Armisen ... turkey
Andy Samberg ... turkey
Jason Sudeikis ... turkey
Kenan Thompson ... Richard, turkey
Michaela Watkins ... Terri, turkey
Kristen Wiig ... turkey
Wow, they brought this sketch back two years later!!! It must be a coincidence that Ludacris was in this episode too, because he's not in this skit (I'd think if he was the one pushing for this skit then he would have asked to be in it too).
Andy Samberg wonders why humans hate turkeys. He plays the naive turkey.

Saturday Night Live cast members Bobby Moynihan, Andy Samberg, Casey Wilson answer silly questions about body odor, bad breath, and Justin Timberlake's surprise appearance on SNL. Bobby says having Justin Timberlake in a leotard during his skit was "a dream come true" and "you're welcome, America." He also says Justin Timberlake smells like "a mix of strawberries, roses and gasoline." Andy Samberg says he thinks the skit went very well. Then Casey Wilson talks about being featured on TMZ last week, and confirms she has a *bleep*.
This was as the players were leaving SNL.
Here's a bonus of Justin Timberlake leaving:
Enjoy!

Two new featured players on SNL: Michaela Watkins & Abby Elliott
What with Rachel Dratch and Tina Fey having left... then Maya Rudolph... and now Amy Poehler... SNL has been finding the funny females, starting with Casey Wilson (she hasn't made me laugh yet, though). Add another two ladies, including the daughter of SNL alumni, Chris Elliott!!! That puts the lady count back up to four, with Kristen, Casey, Michaela, and Abby.
Michaela (37) is on the left, and Abby (21) is on the right:
Abby logged time in Upright Citizen's Brigade (Amy Poehler, Bobby Moynihan), and Michaela is an alumni from the Groundlings (Will Ferrell, Phil Hartman, Kristen Wiig).
On November 15, 2008, SNL added two new featured players. Let's take a look-see...
Michaela Watkins
Bigger image:

Michaela Suzanne Watkins (born December 14, 1971) is an American actress, perhaps most known for her various comedic roles in the Groundlings Company (Los Angeles); and as the role of "Lucy" in the 4th season of The New Adventures of Old Christine. In November 15, 2008, she became the newest member of Saturday Night Live cast with Abby Elliott. Other guest star appearances include: Eli Stone, Californication, Grey's Anatomy, Without A Trace, Malcolm in the Middle, Charmed, Medium, and others.
Watkins was born in Syracuse, New York, the youngest of three daughters, to Myrna (née Seidband) and Mark Watkins, a Mathematics Professor at Syracuse University. Michaela is a graduate of Boston University, where she studied theater and acting. Watkins has been active in Los Angeles Theatre for many years, taking on roles with Circle X Theatre and 2100 Square Feet.
Starting on November 15, 2008, she became a featured cast member on Saturday Night Live.
Abby Elliott
Bigger image:
http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1933546496/nm2212031
Abby Elliott (born June 16, 1987) is an American actress and comedian who currently is a featured player on Saturday Night Live. She is the third generation of her family to have been featured on the show; her father is actor and comedian Chris Elliott who was also briefly an SNL cast member and her grandfather is Bob Elliott of the popular comedy duo Bob & Ray who co-starred in a SNL special in 1979. She also has been on King of The Hill.
She's only 21 years old!!
'SNL' taps Abby Elliott, Michaela Watkins
After a months-long casting process, Abby Elliott and Michaela Watkins have been tapped as featured players on NBC's late-night sketch comedy "Saturday Night Live."
Debuting on this week's edition, the two are expected to at least partly fill the void left by the recent departure of Amy Poehler.
Elliott is a second generation "SNL" player. Her dad, actor Chris Elliott, was on the show during the 1994-95 season.
Upright Citizens Brigate/Groundlings performer Abby Elliott is repped by Innovative and manager Tom Demko.
Watkins, also of The Groundlings, recurs on CBS" "The New Adventures of Old Christine" this season. She is repped by APA and Flutie Entertainment.

Andy Samberg - Interviews Justin Timberlake Backstage at SNL
Andy hangs out with Justin backstage!
Justin's favorite SNL hosting gig was the episode where he did Junk in a Box with Andy Samberg. Justin talks about the leotard backup dancers skit they did together.
NBC!!! Post the Backup Dancers skit!!! Everybody wants to see it!!!

NBC: Post the Backup Dancers skit with Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg!!!
NBC,
We want you to post the Backup Dancers skit where Justin Timberlake, Andy Samberg, and Bobby Moynihan are backup dancers for Beyonce.
Any skit with two pop superstars and two hilarious comedians is a golden opportunity!!!
They wear leotards, and it is hilarious!
People have been trying to post it online like crazy (far above the usual amount), and you've been removing it like crazy.
I've also seen a lot of people post comments on the SNL website asking for it.
It's obvious that people want to see this skit online, so please post it online.
(Note to readers: NBC posts the skits online themselves in order to make some money from the advertising, which is fine; so they control what gets to go online.)
Could it be that you can't post it online due to music that's in it? (This was the case with Dear Sister.)
Thanks!

Tim McGraw hosting this week: SNL Promo
Jason makes an indecent proposal...
Jason's last bit is funny, but not the rest.
So Tim McGraw is hosting this week, and Faith Hill will be there. We need a REAL Andy Samberg country music video!!! (I liked the Shia and Andy one, but we Andy needs to do one with GOOD music!)
Enjoy!

Justin Timberlake - Wishes he never did Junk in the Turkey with Andy Samberg
Update: Justin Timberlake
Justin hosts SNL in about three minutes.
Justin Timberlake does an imaginary skit, Junk in the Turkey with Andy Samberg, and then wishes he never did it. Junk in a Box won Justin an Emmy, and he performed it live with Andy at a concert.
We want a sequel to Junk in a Box! Come on!!! No, it doesn't have to be a literal sequel with a turkey instead of a box.
Justin, just stop by to make the video with Andy. We haven't had a great Andy song since Iran So Far, which was the first episode of last season.
Seriously, you two should dress up like girls in Catholic shool outfits and do a Brittney Spears parody.
Enjoy!

Andy Samberg - Makes Out with Fred (Kissing Family)
Kissing Family
This is one close family.
Andy Samberg watches Paul Rudd, Fred Armisen, Kristen Wiig, and Bill Hader kiss. Hilarious ending!!!
Andy Samberg makes out with Fred Armisen!!!!
Wow, I can't believe they made out like that. Hmm. There seemed to much more guy on guy kissing, and Kristen's kissing is mostly just weirdness. I guess they're going for the harder laughs.
Enjoy!

SNL 11/15/08 - Paul Rudd & Beyonce
Yeppers. We post all the online vids here whilst we look for Andy Samberg vids.
SNL Promo with Andy Samberg and Paul Rudd
Two men enter, one man disappears more quickly...
The "murder" gag gets pumped up into this week's digital short.
Joe Biden Cold Open
Vice President Biden is ready for prime time...
It's pretty sad when the parody of our Vice President is far more entertaining than the parody of our President. Fred Armisen needs to put some personality in his Obama parody to get us through the next 4 or 8 years of SNL.
Kissing Family
This is one close family.
Andy Samberg watches Paul Rudd, Fred Armisen, Kristen Wiig, and Bill Hader kiss. Hilarious ending!!!
Digital Short: Everyone's A Critic
Paul Rudd paints a masterpiece in his latest film.
Holy crack in the smack! Wow. This is a mix between gay jokes, random humor, and violent shock humor. Wow. I like the random stuff, but the rest... not so much. Andy and Paul were much funnier in the promo for this episode.
What do you think?
Update: Snagglepuss
Snagglepuss weighs in on Prop 8.
Bobby Moynihan does a great impression of Snagglepuss as he comes out of the closet. This is interesting. This is typically the character that Andy Sambeg would play. Bobby typically has more voices though, so it will be interesting to see Bobby pick up more of these characters.
Update: Justin Timberlake
Justin hosts SNL in about three minutes.
Hmm. Interesting. Not funny, but interesting.
Sproingo
You'll hear when it's working...
Bill Hader narrates this Jason Sudeikis and Kristen Wiig commercial. Jason and Kristen work well together.
OVERALL: Andy was hilarious in the ensemble kissing piece. Jason Sudeikis further cements his Biden as a fun parody. The Portrait piece was amusing at first, and then just mad me cringe a lot. I think the winner of the week is Bobby Moynihan and his Snagglepus impression. Andy usually gets these roles (what with the Swedish Chef, Cathy, and original silliness like the Jogger).
Anony made a good point in the comments... The best skit is arguably Andy, Justin, and Bobby in leotards dancing as Beyonce's backup dancers. It's awesome that Andy and Bobby are doing some bits together (they also did backup singing and dancing together to Kristen Wiig's Pelosi song a few weeks back). Bobby is a hilarious and silly new player, which was Andy's deal, so it's great to see them collab, especially with Justin Timberlake!!!
Enjoy!

Andy Samberg - Is proof that the Internet is good for young comedians
Well, it seems bound to happen in just about any profession that has been impacted by the internet in some way. Eventually, the "older generation" is going to whine and complain about "the way things used to be." Apparently that's even true of stand up comedians. A bunch of stand up comedians are apparently worried about the internet's impact on young up-and-coming stand-ups, because (I kid you not), they're worried that the internet lets young standups have too big an audience.
The reasoning is basically that it's better for young comics to fail in front of small audiences, learn their lesson and get better. Of course, what none of the complaining comics explain is why those "bad" young comics will have that big an audience in the first place if they're so bad. No one's going to watch them.
These same comics seem to ignore the flip side of the coin -- which is that a good young comedian can actually use the internet to amplify his or her comedic talents in order to get noticed and move on to bigger and better things. A great example of this would be Andy Samberg, who basically made a name for himself online, before being snapped up by Saturday Night Live.
It certainly doesn't seem like there's any lack of young comedic talent these days compared to in the past, and it seems like the internet often creates a much better feedback loop for those young comics. But, of course, since it's "not the way we did it"(TM) it must be bad.

Andy Samberg - In the SNL Promo with Paul Rudd
SNL Promo with Paul Rudd
Two men enter, one man disappears more quickly...
Andy and Paul are hilarious together! What's your favorite one?
1. Paul wins the disappearing contest
Reminds me of the Extreme Activities Competition Andy did with Kristen. I wonder if the disappearing contest idea came from that.
2. Two Bros song
3. #6
I think this is my favorite one. The randomness and their expressions are hilarious!!!
4. Buns and Tush
5. Disappearing Contest - 2 out of 3
Ths one's even better. Paul reappears.
Enjoy!

SNL 11/3/08 - Presidential Bash
NBC decided to push off Heroes in favor of an SNL Presidential special that reruns the key skits. We're going to go through these and check for Andy Samberg.
It's started off by the real John McCain...
Presidential Bash: Sen. McCain
Sen. McCain stops by the Presidential Bash
There was a crowd whoop for "Dancing with the Stars." LOL
So did they film this Saturday night when McCain was on and the audience was set up.
Presidential Bash: Sen. Biden
Sen. Biden drops by the Presidential Bash
Jason Sudeikis gives us another Biden skit. A smart mov because Jason does a great job, and if Biden became VP, which was likely and is what happened, then it's good to get that character further established now.
Jason's going to be doing Biden for another four years. =^)
Presidential Bash: John Edwards
Sen. Edwards stops by the Presidential Bash. Edwards talks about his affair and child.
Will Forte sounds like him, but he doesn't look like John Edwards. Not overly funny.
Presidential Bash: Obama/Matthews
Sen. Obama and Chris Matthews stop by the Presidential Bash
Darrell Hammond and Fred Armisen - They talk T-shirts.
Presidential Bash: Sen. Clinton
Sen. Clinton stops by the Presidential Bash
Amy Poehler pulls out her Hilary Clinton.
Obama/McCain + Montage
Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain set up a montage of classic SNL moments
Good stuff! Check out this compilation. Will Ferrell was awesome!
Presidential Bash: Gov. Palin
Gov. Palin delivers a message
The real Sarah Palin talks. Not super funny. Did she write this herself? Must have.
Enjoy!

Andy Samberg - Was filmed by Kelly
Andy's on 0:32, 1:00, 1:38, 1:47, 2:28, 2:48
At the end, she fades Jorma's hand into Andy's hand.
SNL Meet and Greet :: A Montage Collection
by Kelly Mcaulley
This a montage of clips from my FanFilm colllection over the last 3 years. Some clips are brand new from this season, some are old from Jan. 2006.
All the footage was exclusively filmed by me. Ive edited them together to play along to the song "Waiting" by Green Day, because I feel like the song works well for both sides - the cast and the fans. The lyrics "Ive been, waiting a lifetime for this moment to come - im destined for anything at all" really describes the encounter between the cast and fans - as ive taken notice in person at each meet and greet. And the fans get so excited. This song really connects with the content of the video.
I think i could have done better on the video, but i hope you guys like it regardless. I tried my best. My favorite part is the ending how Jorma's hand transitions into Andy Samberg's hand to close out the video.

Andy Samberg - Is bald in Night School Musical
Andy Samberg is pretty hot for a bald guy:
Dancing and singing and careering!
SNL did a parody of High School Musical 2 a year or two ago, that Andy Samberg was the main character for, so Andy returns in this "parody" of sorts for High School Musical 3. Andy is the cool bald dude.
Enjoy!

Andy Samberg - Brings you Giraffes!
Giraffes!
They are coming for us all...
The official sequel to Sloths! I liked this one better, just because Sloths crossed the line, where this one did not.
Andy does the narrator voice, and some of the singing voices. I also hear Jorma in there, and I think Jorma did all the editing. Akiva's face makes an appearance.
Enjoy!

5 Andy Samberg Shorts - Instead of the SNL Rerun, Wallow In 5 Brilliant Digital Shorts
Instead of the SNL Rerun, Wallow In 5 Brilliant Digital Shorts
Since joining Saturday Night Live as a featured player in 2005, Andy Samberg has been an important addition to the overall tone of the show. While his 2007 flop Hot Rod proved a long career in Hollywood may not be in his future, Joanna Newsom's boyfriend has been involved in a lot of great stuff over the past three years. We all know Samberg classics like his Emmy-winning "Junk in a Box" or "Lazy Sunday," but here are five clips that you may not have seen a billion times...
The SNL Digital Shorts that Andy and Lonely Island writing partners are so frequently involved in can be hit-or-miss, but when the sketch hits, it's usually a big winner. McCain throwing his running mate under the bus is what we'll likely remember from last week's SNL, but "Giraffes" is typical of Samberg and his writing partners, whose comedy I would describe as a tender blend of The State and The Kids in the Hall:
I'm not sure whose brainchild "Dear Sister" was, but this incredible parody of the season two finale of The O.C. never fails to amuse me for some reason. The video below is a parody of a parody, with some kid cutting himself into the misery (he cut himself into the Shia Lebeuof scenes):
"Andy's Dad" was from last season, when guest star Jonah Hill began a sumptuous bouquet of a relationship with Andy's father Ben Samberg. This is a great example of something you wouldn't necessarily have seen on SNL in years past, from the unconventional structure to the explicit oral:
Who can forget Andy's serenade of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, "Iran So Far" from last season's premiere?
Lastly, just for kicks, there's Andy Samberg's introduction on Weekend Update:
------------------
I just saw a commercial of Shrek characters encouraging you to play and not get fat. That was distubing. =^)
Enjoy!

Andy Samberg - Gets Quoted by ESPN
A team in their division, the Tennessee Titans, is quietly woodshedding the entire NFL. Point being: sometimes, things don't pan out as planned. Still…Oden, Roy, Aldridge, Bayless, Fernandez, Blake? Sheesh. To quote Andy Samberg in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist: "We love you, canary."

Andy Samberg - Gives McCain a break and shakes his hand
If you watched this weekend's SNL — featuring Democrat host Ben Affleck and GOP presidential candidate John McCain — all the way to the end, then you would have noticed at the traditional "goodbyes" were longer than usual, with more time to spy on the cast and guests milling around the stage, hugging and back-slapping and the like.
This week, however, seemed a tad more...awkward. It seemed — to this viewer, at least — that the handshake between Affleck and McCain was, well, awkward (and a little long, as McCain kept pumping enthusiastically away). Meanwhile, Tina Fey moved to Cindy McCain (having hugged her husband first) and gave her a nice two-handed clasp, leaning in for a word, but then there was a moment of...well, awkwardness, as conversation awkwardly dried up and Fey looked out and waved to the audience as Cindy stood by — yes — awkwardly. Meanwhile, after McCain finally let go of Affleck's hand, he turned back to the rest of the cast, to see who was next in line for hugs...and sorta had to wait for someone to turn to him. (Usually hosts and guests are mobbed by castmembers waiting for their big huge hug.) After Fred Armisen passed in front of McCain en route to someone else, so McCain turned to Bill Hader and Andy Samberg — if you look carefully, you'll see Darrell Hammond, who usually plays McCain, hiding out waaay in the back in a baseball cap.
Here's the video — see what you think:

I think the writer might be reading into it too much, but there was a bit of awkwardness, especially after Tina and Cindy shook hands.
Enjoy!
More from the article...
One more thing: For the rec, I think that McCain was great on SNL, and it was a real and genuine treat to see Cindy. For those who were surprised that McCain allowed some of those jokes in there... Lawrence O'Donnell... said that he had spoken with longtime SNL writer Jim Downey who said that the writers had all been surprised that McCain went for the sketch, and that they'd been fully expecting him to reject the jokes. O'Donnell also said that Downey said that Republicans were usually a lot more easygoing and less picky about the material they're giving, that Dems are more fussy about vetting the jokes.

TV Guide thinks Andy Samberg's Rasta Man is annoying
SNL Digital Short
I'm annoyed the instant I hear the music and hear Andy Samberg's dreadlock wig and tone deaf voice. He's spoofing the doucey rasta wannabes. The only funny part is when he's singing his song and shuts up as he walks by a group of African-American guys, knowing how douchey they'd think it was. Ha! But on whole, Samberg was still annoying to me.
All TV guide's thoughts about this episode...
Congrats to Amy Poehler who had her baby earlier on Saturday! While there wasn't an appearance by Tina Fey or Sarah Palin or Obama, we still had many a fun surprise this week. As previously reported, Maya Rudolph played Michelle Obama, and two Mad Men favorites appeared in a sketch as well. I have to admit, I thought this week was going to be a mess, but Jon Hamm really delivered! Now on to the show...
Cold Opening
One more SNL until the election and they open with this? Jason Sudeikis reprises his role as Joe Biden and Darrell Hammond plays Jack Murtha who are at a campaign rally. They're spoofing the fact that Biden has become a gaffe-master by saying that Obama will most definitely face a world crisis in the first six months of his presidency. He names a bunch of ridiculous scenarios like surrendering to China and just keeps digging himself in deeper. Murtha digs his ditch deeper by calling Western Pennsylvanians worse names than he had previously (saying, "anyone seen Deliverance?"). I think this one is only really funny if you've seen the real footage of these massive gaffes. The sketch is just OK and certainly no Palin/Bush matchup.
Monologue
Hello hotness that is Jon Hamm. Even if you don't watch Mad Men, Hamm's show that is airing its finale this week, just enjoy him as eye candy. Isn't he pretty? Even better, he's really friggin' funny! He talks about Mad Men and how no one knows what it is, or when it's on. He then says it's set in the '60s and is about …Dancing with the Stars, starring all the people on CSI, and that McCain and Obama will appear on the finale and smoke weed, so tune in! HA!
Trick or Treating Sketch
Jon plays a nice neighbor handing out candy to kids. Will Forte enters as a creepy old man who asks for candy and spouts some nonsense ending with, "What??" Jon tells him to take a hike, basically, but Will comes back and says he's new in town and wants to make friends. Jon apologizes and when he asks what his costume is, Will says he's a sex offender. It just spirals down from there, but I can't help but laugh because Forte is so brilliant in his delivery.

Mad Men Sketch
Now, I haven't seen Mad Men but many of my colleagues insist it's the best thing since sliced bread, so I'm waiting to Netflix Season 1. But, I do know that Elisabeth Moss, who is sitting at the conference table as the sketch open, plays coif-challenged Peggy! Fun cameo alert! I also know that our staff editor Adam Bryant (who recaps Mad Men) just squealed because her appearance was totally a surprise! It's OK Adam, you can stop squealing now. Wow, John Slattery just came in (Adam, don't hyperventilate)! We all heart John Slattery. They're all preparing for a meeting with the annoying "Babe" couple played by Sudeikis and Kristen Wiig. The funniness wears off in the middle until Sudeikis calls out Bill Hader as the gay guy. Hader says, "Who me????" Ha! Well played.
A Message from Barack and Michelle Obama
Maya Rudolph is in the house! She plays Michelle and Fred Armisen is Obama. They've decided their lead is so big that the half hour of air time that he bought can now be used for a variety hour. They bust out into "Solid as Barack" and then cut to Nancy Pelosi (Wiig) singing "Our House (Is a Very Fine House)," and her nasally flat note at the end cracks me up. They should have started the night with this sketch! Next up is Bill Clinton singing "Don't Forget about Me" with slutty dancers in the background. Hee. Then Hamm plays the ghost of JFK and gives his blessing and endorsement to Obama. Good stuff.
Don Draper's Guide to Picking Up Women
Jon plays his Mad Men alter ego who is educating other men on how to pick up women. Step one is to remain silent: Wiig comes in and speaks to him, but all he does is stare at her with his lustful eyes, and she melts. Step two is to give vague answers about your past. Casey buys that bit and he winks awesomely at the end. Step three is to have a great name. Amy Poehler walks in and he introduces himself and she plainly says, "Let's get me out of this skirt." Ha! Rule four is too long to list, but it's basically every trait that Don has including smoking and drinking constantly, lying about everything and taking six hour lunches. Ha! Well done!
Coldplay Performs
Coldplay is awesome, but can anyone tell me why someone so loaded wears the same damn outfit every time he performs this song??? Also, his voice couldn't hit the high notes and he flailed around like a fish outta water. None of that matters though, because they're Coldplay.
Weekend Update
Seth Meyers is flying solo this week because Amy is off with her baby! Here are some of the best lines:
Seth: On Wednesday Barack Obama danced live via satellite for the Ellen DeGeneres show in an attempt to prove that he's not a Muslim but rather, very, very white.
Seth: According to expense reports Sarah Palin charged the state of Alaska over $21,000 to have her children travel with her on official business. In fairness to Governor Palin, when she leaves them at home they tend to get pregnant.
Will Forte plays Robo Call, the automated calling system used by McCain to deliver a message about Obama and Ayers' relationship. Forte is literally a silver painted phone. He is once again brilliant in his delivery of the shamed and suicidal phone system that next week "has to tell black people that the election is cancelled."
Bill Hader plays Ralph Nader and the rhyme that just happened th,ere made me laugh more than this bit. We all know that Ralph Nader is old, obsolete and boring.
I won't even dignify Nicholas Fehn bit with a comment. Wait, I just did. For some reason, the audience is into this sketch. They must be high from looking at the hotness that is Jon Hamm.
But the sweetest/best part was the serenade that Maya and Keenan gave to their missing comrade, Amy. They sang, "We miss you Amy, and we can't wait to meet your baby!"
You can just tell how much they love her (cuz the show ain't the same without her).
Vincent Price's Halloween Show
Hader plays Vincent well, with one part prissy, one part pissy. Wiig and Hamm are hysterical as Gloria Swanson (Sunset Blvd.) and James Mason (Lolita), but the skit goes on too long.
Jon Hamm's John Ham
This is so gross but totally funny in the way that a bass-o-matic is – it's over the top, ridiculous and nasty, yet I can't stop laughing. Jon's ham is on a roll in the bathroom across from the toilet paper. He actually rips a piece off and eats what is clearly processed packaged deli meat stuck together on a toilet roll. And, if you order now, you'll get a free mustard soap! EW!
Pat Finger Sketch (from Butts, NY)
As you can imagine, they use every "butt" joke they could come up with in a two minute period. "I can't wait to lick crack from butts!" "Put a Deldeaux in Butts!" I know it's crude and fourth grade, but I'm "crackin'" up (Thanks, I'll be here all week).
Coldplay gets a third song and it's their classic "Yellow." I'm so glad, because I love their first album.
Kudos to Jon Hamm!

TV Guide's Saturday Night Live Episode Recap: Ben Affleck Hosts, David Cook Performs
TV Guide recaps the episode and we sound off on TV Guide's opinions (EDitorials).
Staten Island Zoo Sketch
Jason Sudeikis is brining a special word from the Staten Island Zoo about giraffes. To help get his point across, he uses a tape created by the local technical high school. The video starts off nice and innocent before turning into a heavy-metal, vampire-reference-laden song about our long-necked friends. The thing reeks of Andy Samberg (it feels like his digital shorts, which we didn't have tonight) and I shared Jason's look of horror at the end of the sketch.
EDitorial: Yeah, it was a sequel to Sloths. It was made by The Lonely Island, which includes Andy Samberg. Jason Sudeikis also lent his voice to Sloths, so it's no surprise to see him take over the role Kristen Wiig did with Sloths. This is shock comedy, which also isn't our favorite either. However, we wish they put it online.
----------------------------
And now all the bits they mentioned...
Behind the strength of Tina Fey's Sarah Palin impression and multiple big-name cameos, this season of SNL has turned the election into ratings gold again and again. With a scheduled appearance by Sen. John McCain set for this episode, could the gang do it one more time on the final live broadcast before America heads to the polls? Let's find out!
EDitorial: You can say that again. SNL has been setting the political agenda. It was putting too much of a focus on the democratic primaries, so it's good to see them get the republicans on for the actual race.
Cold Open
They wasted no time putting McCain to use, as he was joined by Tina as Palin (!) to make their last-minute plea to voters while hawking products on QVC. Apparently the campaign, as Tina points out, spent a little too much money on Palin's clothes and couldn't afford to match Sen. Obama's three-network infomercial. McCain got in on the fun as well, saying he was a "true maverick — a Republican without money." The duo sells items like a set of commemorative plates to remember the ten town hall debates between McCain and Obama (they're blank because they never happened) and the complete line of Joe Action Figures, featuring Joe the Plumber, Joe Six-Pack, and Joe Biden, who if you pull his string "talks for 45 minutes." Ha! McCain's wife Cindy was also there selling "fine gold" (a take on the McCain-Feingold bill), Palin is selling "Ayers Fresheners" and McCain endorses "pork knives." Palin then goes "rogue," pushing "Palin 2012" T-shirts and saying she's not going anywhere after Tuesday, especially back to Alaska. "I'm running in four years or I will be white Oprah. I'm fine either way," Fey says. The sketch is pretty much brilliant, and I am glad McCain is committed to the bit. (The real Palin didn't really do much in the way of participation during her visit. Of course, McCain, having hosted before, is an old pro.) Nice job by McCain and Tina for a hilarious opening.
EDitorial: The Palin 2012 shirt was hilarious! You know everyone's thinking that exact same thing! Also, TV Guide makes a good point that Palin didn't really participate when she came. She just left the comedians to do the comedy. Definitely not a bad strategry. But McCain balances the act of getting his hands dirty in the comedy without coming across negatively.
Monologue
I honestly haven't heard about Ben Affleck doing anything in so long that I'm baffled at his being chosen to host. Even so, his monologue is mercifully short, speaking mostly about his volunteer efforts in many democratic campaigns... unfortunately, it's been all of the losing ones. Realizing his support has the opposite effect, he officially endorses McCain. "I'm sure he'll be thrilled," Ben says. Not as thrilled as I was to to see Affleck shake McCain's hand awkwardly at the end of the night!
EDitorial: Hahaha. Only SNL can bring people together like Affleck and McCain. Or how about Alec Baldwin and Sarah Palin?
Fake Commercial
They again run Kristen Wiig's "Jar Glove" ad that we first saw a few weeks back. It's kinda funny, but a bit too long and over the top. (An omen of things to come?)
The View Sketch
I really don't know where to begin with this. I will definitely say that everyone did a decent job with their impressions, particularly Affleck as Alec Baldwin and Casey Wilson as Jennifer Anniston. Kristen played Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and Keenan and Fred were in drag for Whoopi and Joy Behar respectively. The sketch was basically highlighting the recent feuding among the cast members and Hasselbeck's right-wing views. "I found it online," was the repeated punch line in the sketch, and it, like the sketch itself really wasn't very funny.
EDitorial: I didn't really get Casey's Jennifer Anniston impression. I couldn't see Anniston in it. Maybe it's just that her face doesn't look similar enough.
Countdown with Keith Olbermann
This sketch would have been brilliant (ok, at least funny) if it had ended after two minutes. But the thing ran for just under 10 minutes. Seriously. Affleck was nailing Olbermann's mannerisms and the writing was doing a nice job of lampooning his biases, but come on. First he pegs President Bush as a racist for referring to Al Qaeda as "these folks," then links McCain with the Nazis, then goes on a five-minute tear about how his cat kept him from being accepted into a new co-op building on the Upper West Side. Again, it awesomely made Olbermann look ridiculous, but brevity is always your friend, guys.
EDitorial: Disagree. I think the incredibly long cat bit is what made this skit funny. I didn't find it funny until Affleck yelled so much about the cat topic that his face turned red and he kept spinning around.
Target Sketch
Aside from the cold open, this might be my favorite sketch from the night. It's one of Kristen's recurring characters, the Target cashier. It's the same bit we're used to (crazy voice and ridiculous hyper mannerisms), but Affleck as the wacky UPS man who finds himself intrigued by the cashier is hilarious. He describes her voice as sounding like a "sexy frog" and says he "wants to get his palms up in that red vest." He also buys a few products to show his interest, including champagne, chocolate sauce, a sensuality candle and couples lubricant. (Which Kristen uses for her "squeaky birdcage" and to cure "dry, cracked winter hands." But the best line by far was Affleck running the scanner by Kristen and saying, "Just as I thought...priceless." Stupid? Sure. But I laughed, which is more than I can say for what preceded this sketch.
EDitorial: It's good to see another wacky character play off the Target lady. Kristen's Target Lady bit reminds me of Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, and David Spade playing the GAP girls.
David Cook
Ah, Mr. American Idol himself. I will comment on both of his performances here, since they were both remarkably similar (in terms of song structure, anyway.) David seems to have bought himself a new guitar, and I definitely hear Chris Cornell all over the first song "Light On," which Cornell wrote and which is Cook's first single. The second song, "Declaration" is definitely hard-rockin', and it's clear Cook made the kind of album he wanted. Though the second number was a little screamy for my taste (and more so even than what we heard him do on Idol), I am still glad he beat out Archuleta.
Weekend Update
We learned this week that Seth would be doing Weekend Update solo from now on, since Amy had her baby. I'm sure it was rushed last week, and I think Seth was much better alone tonight than he was a week ago. The best punch lines:
• While Republicans have Joe the Plumber at rallies, the Democrats are sticking with their mascot, Joe the Bummer (over a picture of Joe Biden)
• The Phillies won the World Series, the annual contest to see whose city will be set on fire by drunks.
• Daylight savings time starts this weekend (don't forget to set your clocks back!), but McCain is criticizing it as the "redistribution of sunlight."
• Sopranos wine is hitting stores, soon to be followed by Entourage douche bags.
Senator McCain popped back up to explain his last-minute strategies for the final three days of the campaign. They are:
The Reverse Maverick: He does what anybody tells him to do
The Double Maverick: He"goes totally berserkers and freaks everybody out"
The Sad Grandpa: He tells America, "Come on, Obama is young and will have plenty of chances. It's my turn"
The Charleston: He campaigns exclusively in Charleston, South Carolina
The Forrest Gump: He jogs across America, and it all just works out
The Rocky IV: He lives in the wilderness and drags a sled through the snow until he's in pique physical condition, just so if he has to fight Vladimir Putin, he'll be ready
Ultimately, he's going to stick with what he's doing, but if all else fails, he'll go with the "Double Maverick". Again, very well played by McCain. Kudos. Then, Kristen gives TV reviews as Amy's Aunt Linda. The highlights are Life on Mars, which she thought would be about Martians, should be called "Crap on TV," and her complaints that Knight Rider is a "rip-off of an '80s show staring David Hassell-hoof."
Night School Musical: Senior Year Equivalent
The gang pokes a little fun at the success of the High School Musical franchise with a musical-movie about middle-aged people going to night school to get their high school equivalency. The main couple worries how their relationship will make it once Andy is an expert in forklift operating and Casey has her degree in framing. Oh, and Affleck plays a crazy dude who broke in to rob the vending machine, but became valedictorian. A couple chuckles here and there. (Also, does anyone else think SNL has been musical number-heavy this season?)
EDitorial: Andy Samberg!!! Did anyone else see this? What did you think? What's wrong with SNL being musical heavy? It's funny!!!
Grady Wilson's Sex Improvement DVD
Keenan plays Grady Wilson, who's trying to sell his new "Put the Fire Back in Your Marriage" DVD. He hopes to improve sexual relations for older couples, because "the quality of lovemaking shouldn't suffer" with age. The bit consists of weird and wacky names, which Keenan then acts out. Since describing all of Keenan's actions would be long and boring (again like the sketch), I will share my favorite names, which were the highlights: "The Whipped Butter, The Yeah, That's Good, The Peek-a-Boo, The Bumble Bee, The You Can't Hide From Me, The Stormin' Normandy and The Gotcha."
EDitorial: I have to hand it to Kenan. He looks horrible here, and he doesn't mind. I liked the Gotcha!!!
Movie Pitch Sketch
Affleck and Bill Hader play brothers who apparently have worked on movies in the past, reuniting for a new film. In their meeting with the studio, however, they have quite different ideas. Affleck, the clean-cut brother, details a coming-of-age story about a boy and his grandfather. Hader hasn't slept in three days and envisions shots of "Newsies fantasies, effed up leprechauns, sloppy cuts of mascara running down faces and ripped midgets." The movie guys buy Affleck's "Bad News Bears meets Little Miss Sunshine and pass on Hader's "half-remembered gay nightmare," but offer him the chance to direct Wall-E 2. It's weird, but has more laughs than many sketches that pop up this late in the show, mostly attributable to Hader, who I think is the show's most foolishly neglected talent.
EDitorial: The show doesn't neglect Bill Hader!!! Hader's impressions and characters are amazing. I don't think Hader is all that funny, but he's got an amazing talent at making a character his own, and that's what's giving him the best film career of the current SNL cast (excluding Amy Poehler who's out now).
Bierhoff Bros. Coats
Fred and Affleck play the Bierhoff brothers, who sell German coats to German families visiting New York. The new model, the "Times Square Coat" is for Germans on vacation and "looks sensible" It has reflective strips to keep taxis from hitting you, as well as one that helps you hail cabs. It also has detachable sleeves, a hood for rain (and a second hood for harder rain) and pouches for salami, sausage, and secret souvenirs. Finally, it has a red flag you can raise if you get separated from your family (despite the bright orange color) and a yelling cone to find your loved ones. The accents are ridiculous, but kind of funny, and the best line is the company slogan: "We believe in no-nonsense jackets because it's the only thing that makes sense to us." (P.S. All catchy slogans, like insensible coats) belong in the garbage.)
Overall, I have to give all the credit for this episode to Sen. McCain and (shocker) Tina Fey. Affleck didn't annoy me, but the material just wasn't there tonight. Plus, with this being the final show before the election, I was expecting a lot (or even just some) more political sketches. We didn't even see Obama, and he put on a 30-minute infomercial this week! Beating a dead horse? Maybe, but it's been bread and butter all season, so why abandon it now?
EDitorial: SNL beat Obama and his 30-minute show down on Thursday Night Live last week. They did the Obama Show. Sure, they probably could have made fun of it some more, but they did such a good job that it was probably better to move on. Besides, they made fun of it again with McCain's QVC show. The point of that bit was that McCain couldn't afford to put on the show that Obama did. Classic stuff.

That's a lot of "as." Enjoy & Happy Halloween!
Right. Not a great impression, but it's amusing, especially the blanket.
